Halloran looks aggravated, I know I'm the one who first suggested this, but I wish you people would make up your minds. The beast is over there, he gestures towards the lion.
We are over here, he points to the ground they are standing on, 20 ft. away the lion will soon wake up (if it hasn't already)and the first thing it will see is the meat I left out for it. The second thing it should see is us awake, alert, in a group and yelling and shouting. he says with a nod towards Silstaren.
If the creature is motivated solely by hunger and it has any sense, it will take the food and go, if it doesn't we drop it and show no mercy a second time, are we all agreed?
Silstaren |
Silstaren gives the mage a small twisted smile. That problem is solved.
The ranger to has a look around, then drifts over to the lion's resting place where he kneels and examines the ground for tracks.

In the absence of an attack, Halloran says, Well it looks like the situation has resolved itself, I'm going to turn in, wake me when it's my turn for watch, or when something else comes to kill us, whichever comes first.
Suiting action to words, Halloran returns to his bed roll and goes back to sleep.
Silstaren |
Silstaren nods and looks at the stars. "Elaine, it is almost my watch. Go to sleep and I will stay awake."
The elf seats himself by the fire and passes the time drawing a small stone down the length of his blade. Periodically he rises and walks the camp's perimeter. When the stars reach their appointed place, he wakes Halloran.
Halloran Westover |
Halloran will get up at his appointed time and take over the watch, he will also walk around the perimeter of the camp and keep the fire going.
When it gets light enough for him to read he will study his spells for the day, then start making breakfast.
Profession: Cook1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Tasting his latest creation, he makes a face and says, Not my best work, but better than a poke in the eye. Raising his voice he calls out, Rise and Shine everyone! Breakfast is ready, get it while it's hot!
Silstaren |
Silstaren stays up a little while with Halloran before returning to his bedroll. The elf doesn't initiate conversation. He seems content to stare at the stars in the wizard's company.
In the morning he is up early, scouting the camp perimeter, looking for animal tracks. He comes to breakfast eagerly.
"Thank you, Halloran. It is good."
Halloran Westover |
Very well then. After breakfast, clean up and packing of gear, Halloran saddles his horse, mounts up and says to Bokken, It was good to see you again Bokken, we'll probably be this way again someday.
Turning to Silstaren, he asks If you would be so kind, could you lead the way? I think I remember the route, but I'd just as soon trust an expert, rather than risk getting us all lost.
Halloran Westover |
Halloran says to Silstaren I feel I should apologize to you for my earlier comments, your words of praise were honest and heartfelt, but I am uncomfortable with praise at the best of times. And as a craftsman raised in a family of craftsmen I tend to be my own harshest critic, particularly when I feel my efforts are lacking, in my embarrassment I said something that could be considered rude.
Halloran extends a hand to Silstaren, No harm was meant, but the words were said, and I fear I have given offense where none was intended. Can you forgive me? I would not have someone who I have come to consider a friend, think I do not value him or his opinion.
Silstaren |
Silstaren takes Halloran's hand. "I can guarantee you no offense was taken. I find I must ask your pardon instead. You, ~a pause while he raises his head to include all the party before returning his gaze to Halloran~ have been noble and worthy companions."[/b]
"I will miss you all, but I have decided to part company with you when we reach Oleg's. There are many lands to see and I feel the call of the mountains. When I pass this way next, I will try to find you."
Halloran Westover |
As Halloran waves goodbye, he mutters to himself, I thought he was at least going to come back to Oleg's with us. Sighing he turns back to the trail.
Well that's unfortunate, not only have we lost a good companion, but we've also lost probably our best fighter. No offense ladies, I know physical combat isn't my strong suit, and your disciplines demand your focus in other areas, as well.
Halloran rides in silence for awhile, then gets a thoughtful look on his face, Here's a thought, Alkaid do you remember that bandit leader? Kressle I think her name was?
Halloran Westover |
Well that's too bad, guess I'll have to see what I can rustle up. And speaking of food we better take care of these fellows, here. he says leaning forward in his saddle to pat his horse's neck.
Looking back up at Duke, he gives him a nod and says, Good luck with your watch, give a yell if you need anything.
With that he dismounts and leads his horse to the stable where he will unsaddle it, groom it and make sure it has food and water.
After that he'll go looking for Svetlana, Hello Svetlana, sorry we missed supper, I was wondering if I could borrow your kitchen to make something for me and my friends?
Halloran Westover |
Taking out a pot Halloran hangs it over the fire pit, pours some water in it, then takes out one of the bags of T. beans they got off of the goblins and pours enough for 3 into the pot.
Let's see how this taste,he says stirring the pot. Hopefully we won't get as much gas as those goblins did!

Halloran Westover |
Halloran takes a taste of his latest concoction and makes a horrible face, Merciful Pharasma! I can't believe even goblins would eat 5 bags of this!
Turning back to the others he says, I'm afraid I botched this batch, give me a few minutes and I'll see if I can salvage something from the wreckage.
The PHB says I can retry a profession check, so long as it's to accomplish a specific task, not to make money for a week, so unless Azure has an objection, that's what I'm going to do.

Halloran Westover |
With trepidation written all over his face, Halloran takes another taste of the beans, after the initial contact with his tastebuds, his expression changes from cringing to thoughtful, Hmm better, not great but better.
Turning back to the girls he says, For lack of a better term I'm prepared to call this dinner, dig in ladies. and with that he starts dishing out beans.
