This is DukeRuckley with his Female Dwarven Bard... Okay, this was a challenge! The mostly finalized stats (needs a once over to make sure I haven't screwed something up) are in her alias.
I thought I'd go through my thought process a little bit behind this challenge. After all, Dwarves are probably the race least suited for bard (-2 to the main stat, and +2 to two other stats that aren't very important to a bard).
I knew I wanted to focus on strength, as the archetype is an arcane duelist, which is sort of similar to a magus in feel. I could have gone with a more dexterous route, but thought that a dwarf would just feel stronger, so I potentially sacrificed a little bit of optimization for flavor there.
I also knew that I would need to have a decent Charisma (eventually a 16 to use the higher level spells). A 14 in charisma gets me up to level 10 before running into trouble with spells. Problem is, dwarves have an inherent -2 to Cha, so I would need to start with at least a 15 in the stat (which would drop it to 13).
I had originally come up with three different stat arrays to consider (in order STR-DEX-CON-INT-WIS-CHA):
1) 15-12-12-12-9-15
2) 15-13-13-13-9-14
3) 16-13-13-13-9-13
I was originally planning to use the third array and just make sure to increase charisma at each opportunity. But then I remembered that I could play a middle aged character and end up with a -1 to all physical stats and +1 to all mental. I came up with one more array, which is what I went with: 15-13-13-13-10-14
So the plan is to bump strength at the fourth level (the 14 gets me through 10th level, so I can just bump it up at 8th level and then again at 12th level, which will be enough).
The character is extremely not optimal, but an interesting experience nonetheless! She'll have some trouble until probably third level when I can take another feat (toughness looks especially important). I may swap out the extra performance feat for weapon focus right away... I'm not sure. I hope the use of the Dorn-Dergar helps bring her combat ability up a little and gives her an interesting take for a bard.
Imagine encounter a hefty female dwarf, singing at the top of her lungs to inspire her companions, while attacking you with a large ball of iron on a long chain that is infused with arcane energy!
I don't have a backstory put together yet, but if you would like one, let me know.

Your making me think of a stereotypical Opera Singer.

The point buy is the following:
You're right, I screwed up somewhere (except buying a 7 actually gets you -4 points, not -3, so its not quite that bad).
New point buy:
16-14-11-11-7-15 (which is 10+5+1+1+(-4)+7 = 20)
Results in the following after racial and age:
15-13-12-12-10-14
Thanks for the look over, I'll go correct her alias now.

also, what about possible crossblooded and/or multiclass?
You can multi-class, but only after 3rd level and your random class must always be the highest level class (by 2 levels)
You can take crossblooded, but remember it's drawbacks(and I would randmise for the second bloodline)

Kiley Sherrow |
Cannibalized an alias from an defunct game. Stats are in the profile.
Kiley grow up never knowing her parents. She was left at the doorstep of the Sarenite temple in Absalom when she was just an infant. The clergy took the young girl in and raised her as if she was one of their own. The only link to her past was a note begging the clergy to take her in and giving them her name.
While at the temple, Kiley displayed a knack for the healing arts. She learned about how the bodies of several races worked and honed her skills aiding the healers who treated those who came to them for help. As time went by, her skills be came greater and eventually, she was allowed to accompany a cleric and the rest of her party while delving a dungeon in one of the many siege castles surrounding the city.
The cleric learned two things about Kiley that day. First, she was fairly skilled with a scimitar and a longspear. Second, she was reckless if someone was in dire need of help. A soldier hired to help deal with any beasts or other similar threats they ran across had been badly wounded and was bleeding out. Kiley seeing this, rushed to aid the man, despite there being a large, angry ogre nearby. Thanks to her actions, the man lived and the group managed to slay the ogre.
Ever since that day, Kiley has been learning how to wield the chosen weapon of Sarenrae. The forms and movements of the style used by the Sarenite dervishes have steadily become easier to follow, and her eagerness to help is being tempered by caution. Still, Kiley is waiting for the day when she can set out on her own and see what treasures the world contains.
Kiley's upbringing among the temple has left her curious about the outside world. While not exactly naive, she does lack a certain street-savvy that most others would have. She likes trying new foods and learning about other cultures. She even learned elven on a whim because she spotted a scroll with the flowing script and was intrigued by its beauty. She comes across as being a bit of a quirky airhead, despite being rather intelligent, and observant. The notable exception to this is when a person is her patient. Those who have received her aid have noted that the young woman acts more like a stern matron when under her care. This can be rather jarring to someone who knew her in one capacity, but not the other.
Kiley dresses in loose clothing that allows her to move freely and be comfortable, even in the heat of summer. Her long hair is kept back in a ponytail to keep it out of her green eyes.

Thanks, AZ. I think you're going to have some hard choices ahead. Just seeing the two clerics, I like Adam's pretty well, too.
There is going to be 2 games (5 or 6 players each),
which will leave 5-7 not in the game (I will be making some really hard choices),unless a GM is willing to take the remainder and run a game with them.
sunshadow21 |
If there is a question of space, don't worry about me. I'll still probably finish the character just because I enjoy the process, but don't worry about fitting me into a game if you have to cut people. I have enough other games currently and there will be enough other opportunities down the road that it won't hurt me to sit this one out.

Thanks, I liked the background for yours, pretty nice integration of the birthmark trait there. Kinda funny, I built a second line cleric with enough combat ability to pull out of a scrape, and you built a front line tank. Guess that just shows that you can have a lot of variation even in the same class and archetype.
