Kiley Sherrow |
"That still doesn't make it right to stand by and let this, this thing kill him!"
Maena Ashtoreth |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Maena speaks quietly, allowing a softness into her voice for probably the first time, "You are right, Kiley. His later actions, no matter how likely, do not make it right."
Her voice grows harsher and her icy tone returns as she finishes, "It is his past actions that do. He murdered that man and his loyal dog, and now, this 'thing', as you call it, seeks justice for itself and its murdered master. A justice that is well deserved."
DM Azure_Zero |
Malgrim
"Stay Down."
Atk(Unarmed): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Damage(Unarmed): 1d3 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
and the undead dog is down.
Kiley Sherrow |
Kiley picks up her spear and keeps it pointed at Malgrim. she keeps her posture guarded.
"Please, just surrender and repent. It's not too late to do some good. There's no need for bloodshed."
NPC_Male_Enemy |
Malgrim
he looks at everybody
"Do you have any solid evidence, I did it.
No you don't."
NPC_Male_Recruitable |
Sir Rekkart
"If I do find any evidence, I'll gladly use it to put you behind bars."
Aciera Longress |
"We just have your confession of being a dogkiller, I wonder how much of a fight it put up when it was alive." She looks down at the pile of bones then looks at the skeleton, "So why did you kill the mutt? Your boss was doing the real job taking care of the judge so he sent his lackey to deal with the dog or did it turn down your advances?" She says with a cold smile from behind her fellow companions and Sir Rekkart.
NPC_Male_Enemy |
Malgrim
he looks at everybody
"He means hard physical evidence, otherwise it's just hear say,
and if someone were to contradict your words, then it becomes a "he said, she said" scenario."
NPC_Male_Recruitable |
Sir Rekkart
"What he says is true, I tried 10 times with witness accounts and he got them discredited."
Kiley Sherrow |
Kiley raises the spearhead up until it's pointing at the ceiling and the butt is resting on the floor.
"I think your words and actions speak for themselves."
She turns on the paladin.
"And you so blinded by pride that you don't think that maybe,l just maybe, you were in error. This one admits he was 'doing a job.' One out there said he was tortured and had his family threatened, another admitted she only wanted revenge. The gnome said he was motivated by hatred. Then there's the girl who seems too scared to even talk about why she found this Mord person guilty. Then there's you, the dwarf, and the gentleman who claimed to be drunk for most of the trial. Is that justice to you? Are you so blinded and enslaved by the law that you will not do what's right?"
Kiley Sherrow |
Yeah, I think I may be overdoing it. I'm trying to find a balance with this one, but I think she's coming off as schizophrenic. In her eyes, Rekkart has seen the way Malgrim's acting for himself, and that he seems to be refusing to act grates against her sense of right and wrong. To be fair I did describe has naive. Malgrim just better be thanking his lucky stars he isn't sharing the room with some of my other characters, specifically a certain barbarian that has a tendency to fly off the handle when she thinks her sisters are in danger or being threatened. >;)
Kiley Sherrow |
Almost surprised that Maena isn't staring at Kiley in disbelief.
NPC_Male_Recruitable |
Sir Rekkart
"I know he is guilty, and got him in court 10 times, and each time he found ways of discrediting the evidence."
Kiley Sherrow |
Really? She expects a seemingly schizophrenic chaotic good cleric, who is increasingly making her disdain for the law when it interferes with doing what's right clear, to come to anything the lawful Asmodean considers good sense? Wow and I thought Kiley was naive. :D
Kiley, in a desperate attempt to appeal to the paladin's sense of right and wrong, pleads one more time for him to act.
"Kirallah's right! If your sure of his guilt, then do something! At least show him a better way and how he can help others prosper as well as further himself. Even the Dawnflower is willing to accept one as vile as this one if he's willing to truly repent and turn form his ways!"
NPC_Male_Recruitable |
Sir Rekkart
"I would if I could, but the Law is THE Law and I will never oppose the Law.
And the last person who tried to "Redeem" Malgrim was found hanging from a tree next to his Kirk."
Aciera Longress |
Aciera glances over the room to see if anything else of intrest is in there and to take a closer look at the as she says, "In the Tundra the only evidence you need is strength to punish the run doer, the Hoarfr....." She pauses for a moment and stays quiet as she finishes her search.
Maena Ashtoreth |
Except that Maena's a believer in justice (and not one to temper that so much with mercy) -- and so she feels the paladin's being stupid, and that his need to scrape and scrimp and allow the guilty to go based on proof, when he *knows* the man is guilty -- just indicate that the laws he's following are corrupt and not the pure, simple type her Lord demands.... Anyhow...
Maena shakes her head, her tone almost as icy as the one she used on the Hobgoblin, "If you know of his guilt and do not act, then you are not serving justice, paladin."
She then helps looking around the room...
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Kiley Sherrow |
Kiley keeps a tight hold on her longspear. Malgrim's words from in the hall are too fresh for her to consider letting go of a weapon she can have ready at a moment's notice. she keeps an eye on the Hobgoblin while she scans the room.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
DM Azure_Zero |
you check the room and find a letter, a potion of lesser restoration, a potion of bear’s endurance, a potion of cure
moderate wounds, a gilded masterwork dagger resting in an ornate emerald-and-silver sheath.
And that the judge was choked to death by a spiked chain, like the one Malgrim has on him right now.
a know(local) check to confirm something.
Kiley Sherrow |
Not trained in it, but...
Kn(Local): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17 => 10
Kiley's face turns very dark as she reads the letter. She lets the other women in the room read it before handing it over to Sir Rekkart.
"Sir Rekkart, do you know of many people who use spiked chains as a weapon?"
She moves a few more steps from the hobgoblin and sets her spear to counter a charge.
"I can't help but notice that our 'friend' here mentioned putting down the dog again, and that he seems to be carrying a chain much like the one used to strangle the good judge over there."
The cleric now addresses the hobgoblin.
"Who hired you?"
NPC_Male_Recruitable |
Sir Rekkart
"Looks like a cover up and some nice physical evidence, as well.
Looks like Malgrim might find a prison or execution sentence now."
NPC_Male_Enemy |
Malgrim
he grins with confidence
"We'll see."
he walks out of the room and into the other judges room.
DM Azure_Zero |
The door slams shut, but not from Malgrim.
A harsh staccato whisper builds to the rasping
croak of a strangled man that echoes through
the entire courthouse. Malgrim screams
frantically over the horrid sound. “No! Get
away from me! You’re dead! I saw you swing!
No!” The jangling of a chain and wet gurgling
follow. Then all goes silent.
Maena Ashtoreth |
Maena looks to the paladin, relieved to hear that he is capable of seeing reason. She smiles icily at the Hobgoblin as he storms out, but then starts when the door slams and the Hobgoblin screams. "It would appear that one of his victims has decided to punish him for his guilt... Perhaps we are all free of this nightmare?"
NPC_Male_NR |
Killian
in his British accent
"I unfortunately Lass, don't think so.
As there are more who are guilty here, I believe."
Kiley Sherrow |
Kn(Religion): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 Teying to see if Kiley knows anything about hauntings like this.
"I really don't like this."
Kiley points the spear at the door more for comfort than the good it'll do against a ghost.
NPC_Male_Recruitable |
Sir Rekkart
he open the door
"Well, it looks like justice found Malgrim guilty after all."
Kiley Sherrow |
Kiley lowers her spear, too shocked to do anything.
"That is not a pleasant way to die."
