Smashtag's key to Von Ryuko was that he was not only evil but insane and therefore did not consider the consequences of his actions nor take the optimal course to his goal, whatever that was. We don't know.

I was slightly thinking similarly, but at the same time the opposite. That in some way he wanted to be caught, expose his allies and kill the opposition.

That he has some evil showmanship! And of course Prussian Arrogance (unless he is a Hessian).

Satyxis, Captain Adventurer(In Disguise)

Not writing too much am I?

Sing out and let me know how people find me.

Much cheers to all. (^_^)

I'm kind of lost as to where we ended up. What did Rashida recognize and why is she dragging Ysillith away instead of finishing off Von Ryuko?

Satyxis, Captain Adventurer(In Disguise)

Because I'm using the same quote from the very beginning of this PbP before the Baron blew everything up. :)

All bad guys are down. Mutton-chops is ailing and ticking away. :)

Much cheers to yourself. :)

What quote?? I'm so confused.

Satyxis, Captain Adventurer(In Disguise)

Sorry. The very first page of this PbP. The Baron's words before he escapes into the night and proceeds to blow up air ships.

Linky

(^_^)

Much cheers to you and yours.

Medieval Bavarian uniforms - this is pretty much the getup I picture for passkontrolle and town guards.

Satyxis, Captain Adventurer(In Disguise)

Very swash.

Dance-oholic Minx

Of course, that's a nice cut to the strides. "Does sir dress to the left or right?" would seem to be a common question. And amazing hat's, Napoleonic era Europe is lots of fun.

Lord of Serv-Bots

You guys aren't describing this steampunk and magitech enough!!!

Lol, anyway I will fix that. And yes, I am "Meanwhile..." :P

We talked in chat about establishing a baseline of technology so everyone is on the same foot. Any interest in that? We know it's steampunky with airships and spirit engines and, apparently, space travel of some sort. Bioengineering seems to be very advanced, as does mechanics, but no internal combustion engines have been seen yet - I suppose spirit engines replace those. There also doesn't seem to be personal instant communication, though there's some sort of communication gear on the airships - perhaps radio waves take a lot of power to generate?

(Satyxis, Captain Adventurer)

I'm using what I know of the "Iron Kingdoms" role playing game as my base line. *Bows*

That is more or less how I always figured that communication would be handled. The mercenaries from Ferrus Lupus had comlinks, but they've more or less been stated to be in possession of state-of-the-art technology, and their range was never exactly specified. For long distance communications I imagine some kind of tower network would exist to boost signals. This would be what makes secretive transmission difficult (i.e. the equipment Vorian asked if Lord Haigh possessed) because it has to transmit the signal all the way to the recipient on its own, requiring a considerable amount of power. I'm just spitballing here.

As for power, while the steampunk style has persisted, steam as a power source has not seemed to be all that prevalent. Given what has been powered thus far, including but not limited to Virago's main cannon, the clockwork giants, and the submersibles (would steam power even work underwater?), steam doesn't seem like a plausible energy source. Unless I'm missing the point of steampunk of course, in which steam is the end-be-all of limitless power.

Spirit power seems to be a recurring thing though; I assume that's how the replicas function, given that they all appear to have their own souls so far. I don't know how far that venue can be stretched though.

The little cyborg serpents Rashida uses also have a limited, close-range communication but they are biofueled.

I assume the spirit engine takes the place of the steam engine.

Are people conceiving the replicas as being purely mechanical or a mechanical frame with biological overlay?

Legendary Merchant of Pins

A new Iron Kingdoms RPG actually came out much to my excitement! Definitely recommend it for plundering....as I recommend Girl Genius for anyone who needs real steampunky, clanky inspiration.

(Satyxis, Captain Adventurer)

Ah...as for the constructs? Again, there is a creature in Iron Kingdoms which has a metal skeleton over a flesh body. Very tough and nasty in game. I was using those as inspiration.

Much cheers to all.

The flesh overlay means Ritter's conversation with Whitey makes sense: they were looking for DNA to complete the replicas. It also makes sense because another missing item – besides petroleum-based combustion devices – seems to be plastics!

(Satyxis, Captain Adventurer)

Just a question, but who does the laundry on this ship?

We've been hand-waving crew and servants for the other ship, since our nobles can't be bothered with such humdrum activities. I just posted to get our crew sent to the Phantom.

Legendary Merchant of Pins

Sneaky Rashida!

>.>
<.<

Dance-oholic Minx

Cassie wonders if Rashida has pulled her trick and is dressed as a rough sailor?

(& pinvendor don't read that as "Cassie pulls a rough sailor & does her tricks")

Legendary Merchant of Pins

O_O

Female Helmet Cat

Mittens and the Duchess just don't do laundry. >_> It's the rest of you who require that sort of thing!

Legendary Merchant of Pins

By the by, if you don't mind a little meta, perhaps someone could get a certain newbie some legitimate papers...

Maybe even "Gräfin von Bodensee Insel" to be really, really clever. Heh heh

(Satyxis, Captain Adventurer)

Indeed. Mittens and the Duchess self launder. But as one who is not so dextrously inclined.... (^_~)

Much cheers to all.

Legendary Merchant of Pins

So Ysillith Mearlleux declines the attempts at self washing using her tongue?

*Deletes post inspired by Hentai Hat*

Dance-oholic Minx

Cassie is the psychic forger.

(Or as Treppa pointed out, Cassie is OP)

Legendary Merchant of Pins

All joking aside, Didn't Treppa have a legitimate item for discussion regarding continuity of reference?

I did? Did I use big words like that?

Legendary Merchant of Pins

Now I look like an A-hole.

Cute. :P

Naaaah. It seems like a few people have Iron Kingdoms. I don't have access nor will I for the near future. Are there some fundamentals therein we could use as our technology basis?

Legendary Merchant of Pins

I picture this

There are other "street" pictures even in color, but at work, can't go through the comic to find them...

So, I snagged GM in order to tidy up the threads some. pinvendor has volunteered to actually GM a bit, to keep things on track and run enemy NPC's, etc.

Does that sound good to everyone? I'm OK with it personally and have no problem handing over the keys.

Moar pics

Serv-Bot!

Dance-oholic Minx

I am fine with it. Though, let us know if it's too much for you pinvendor. Will you be more hands on? Or do you just fancy being a repository for information?

As Smashtag had some ideas for where we would go, but we never found out :(

Legendary Merchant of Pins

I wouldn't mind being more hands onsy, but I would like to see people decide where their characters' limits are.

Vorian does a great job when you read his posts. He's knows he's not immortal, and isn't afraid to include that. Some NPC baddies should be the equivalent or better than current PC power levels which is hard to gauge in free-form. Do you guys want me to include "power levels" for antagonists to give you kind of a baseline? Or should we just kind of do it the way we have been? Example:

RepliCassie's Power level: rather challenging, PC should describe fair fight one on one, consider flight or alternative solution if RepliCassie has support. Edge: Taraz, Rashida, Kittington. Disadvantage: Vorian, Drake, Ralph.

I just want to make sure the story progresses with some sense of challenge and accomplishment, and doesn't turn into vanity "min/maxing" through description. :P

Of course, since some of the characters are near goddesses, I guess their limits will be pretty high. ;-)

(I'm just teasing, Treppa. You do a great job showing that Rashida has power, but is greatly ignorant of its upper limits and almost afraid of it, too.)

Another suggestion would be to actual include a gaming system for combat-like situations only without limiting any other circumstance.

Thoughts?

Honestly, after a few weeks of DSX's DF, I think Fate might work well for us, or maybe Fate Lite. After all, Rashi may channel a goddess who MIGHT be able to gank somebody's soul, but she can't throw a punch, fire a gun, or fly a plane. I built her to rely upon the rest of the party. With Fate, you select your strengths and weaknesses and can accept penalties (can't fight) to get bonuses in other areas (soul-ganking). Rolls are simple: 4d3-8 plus whatever modifier for that particular skill, opposed by the other guy.

It's also vastly customizable, which would suit us well. But DSX knows much more about it than I do.

As we discussed a wee bit in chat, it might be possible to simply describe our character's abilities and weaknesses (like in the comic books) and play off those, adding new ones as we discover them in play.

Legendary Merchant of Pins

Agreed, that is the best way. I would prefer people to police themselves, but I do also want a way to communicate that a certain villain may need to live without deus ex machina to save them from awesome PCs. :P

Give him (or her) a twirly mustache so we know they're recurring.

Dance-oholic Minx

Alrighty, lets try this:

Cassie

Advantages:

  • Bendy and quick
  • High pain tolerance & reckless (which is a disadvantage as she jumps into knives)
  • Highly Skilled combatant, but she cannot do too excessive damage. As she either uses kicks, her stiletto knife (in the fan vanes) or her super steam pistol.
  • Good mechanic, especially Hard-ware.

    Disadvantages:

  • Never Killed anyone.
  • Flirts too much thus gets into bad situations.

    I'll think of other stuff.

  • (Satyxis, Captain Adventurer)

So, here is the first ver bit of writing I have done which dtails both Satyxis and Captain Ysillith.

    Link

    Followed by this,

    Link

    Then this,

    Link

    Then this,

    Link

    Then this,

    Link

    Then this,

    Link

    Then this,

    Link

    Then this,

    Link

    Then this,

    Link

Then just keep reading the entries for the tale.

The next piece of writing is this,

    Pirate's Sunset

Which is a tale where the link picks up for the first sighting of 'The Bonny D' and leads into another combat/conflict.

With this, Linky being one of my favorite scenes.

I hope my words are entertaining and not too much of a chore to read.

I shall try and put together more resources for showing people glimpses of both what a Satyxis is and more Iron Kingdom's stuff.

The D20 game, for its bugs and flaws, was an awesome setting place. I am intrigued as to the creators 'new' rules, though the old still holds a special place in my heart and memory.

Edit: And while perusing the wonders of the internet, I stumble across this:

    Link to 'Weird tech' airship.

    *Bows* Much cheers to all.

    Legendary Merchant of Pins

Hmmm...seems DSXMachina forgot Cassie's use of "spirit" enhancing, or whatever she did during the last bit of fighting at the island. :P

Or are you not wanting to reveal anything that is potentially related to any secrets yet? lol Not that I know any secrets, but that would be a serious Advantage if she possesses such an ability.

As a matter of curiosity, how do helmetcat communications work? I'm thinking they have special access via timewaves that nobody else has, ever.

Travel: are there other forms of transit besides air? Might the common folk, the great unwashed, take trains from place to place?

It appears to me that the posting convention we're falling into is: public for normal group posts, but spoilered for individual posts and in quote format for flashbacks. Does that sound right?

    (Satyxis, Captain Adventurer)

Aye.,..though there is nothing wrong with folks reading the spoiler stuff, in my opinion. T'is done so that private conversations between characters are less likely to impinge upon the group affair.

    Much cheers to all.

Yep, the spoilering in this case is purely to keep the flow of the main party action going smoothly. I think if there's something private, it needs to be marked private or PM'd.

Will anybody be offended if the Vatican is brought in (lightly)?

    (Satyxis, Captain Adventurer)

    Probably not m'self.
