Hezar |
i want to get this on my bow-prob not worth a +1 but totally fits the character. Also thinking of going into horizon walker
totally jealous of you that have weapons that are getting better over time btw
Belgrin Stoneshield |
Haven't really thought out this guy's progression, TBH. At times I like to see what a high level toon looks like, but more often, I just want to play it out and see where life takes me.
As for recruiting, It'll be my first time having to help recruiting a replacement, so I'll try to stay unobtrusive for the moment, but if I learn anything noteworthy, I'll pipe up.
Hezar |
must be getting naughty under there!
Ariael Lafali |
Alright, givin my official thoughts on a new player:
Drake, he who posted the Witch, would be a very solid replacement.
Not only does the Witch provide good healing, especially since he's taking the Healing Hex.
But it also gives us very nice offensive spells, more so with the Wand.
One player helping fill both roles is much better than two players each filling just one.
Hezar |
I'm waiting for story see how they are at that first.
Hezar |
to play devils advocate here.
The slumber hex can be very frustrating as a DM. I would advise you locke to look closely at it.
Obviously elves and the like are immune and it has a 35 ft range or so, but it can be a game breaker. A game I am running the witch put a CR 11 demon to sleep. Stupid hard encounter over. To be fair I laughed about it, but I have heard of a lot of DM's that get super frustrated with it.
DM Locke |
Yeah, I've been leery of witches for that very reason - because there's no HD limitation on the slumber hex, a lucky roll could put virtually anything down for the count and ready for a coup de grace.
Having said that, I differ from some other DMs, in that, during recruitment, I'm looking more at the player than their character. I'm very impressed with Drake, as well, and am interested in seeing if he's willing to put a more mainstream character forward as well (either arcane or divine).
Belgrin Stoneshield |
Honestly, a save or suck spell/ability like slumber hex is easy enough to keep fair by just not using single monster encounters, IMHO. Multiple targets, some with good will saves, can significantly reduce the potential of a single, encounter ending die roll, in the same way that having multiple baddies can prevent one crit machine fighter from killing a boss in one round. At the very worst, he'll have to cast it multiple times, so the baddies have a few rounds to wrap it up. Crits, death spells, crowd controls--same principle. Besides, all these undead hordes we're bound to face won't care, so it's not like a sleep ability that doesn't suck by level 4 is going to ruin the challenge, lol.
Monkeygod |
Re: Slumber Hex,
1) Its a Mind Affecting spell. Thus, all the undead we are currently facing are immune.
2) A creature can be roused from its sleep via a standard action.
Regarding the character as a whole, I must say I am a little taken aback by Locke wondering if Drake will put forth a more mainstream character. After all, Ariael is a Magus, and Landon an Inquisitor. Neither of which are Core.
Did we somehow take the only two slots for non mainstream characters?
Hezar |
I'm not sayin yay or nay. Just pointin out that it is an effect that CAN be a pain. It is neither right or wrong but a lot of dms don't want to deal w it and from experience I get it. There is a reason it shows up on the forums so often ya know?
DM Locke |
MG, you take up the oddest causes. Do you think I'm being heavy handed by asking Drake Somerset to put forward another character? I disagree. There's no "right" to play in this game - I'm choosing who I want based upon my own criteria. If he chooses not to put another character up for consideration, that's his concern and his right. Are there "slots" for certain types of players? You bet!
If I don't choose him, please, by all means, feel free to resign your slot in protest.
Monkeygod |
I guess I just don't understand why, when you ask for our input, you shoot me down. Before Hedgeknight left, you asked all of us if we had any issues with you.
He and I both presented our problems, and then you proceeded to basically steamroll right over us, making it seem like you were 100% in the right and we were 100% in the wrong.
I even thought there might have been a misunderstanding of my position, this being the internet and all, and attempted to present it differently, and you still made it seem like I was the screw up, and you were inflatable, godly DM who can do no wrong and if we players don't like it, leave.
Here your doing it again. You asked us to help select a new player. A few of us like Drake and his Witch. You however, decide we must have the brain worms, and want him to make a different submission, cuz forget what your players want.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I really do like this game, but man you honestly do come across heavy handed as a GM sometimes. Maybe its just me, but Hedge seemed to feel the same way, and I know he's a pretty respected presence on these boards...
DM Locke |
Appeals to Hedgeknight's "respected" status on these boards won't take you far here, MG. He pledged to post on this game on a regular basis, and then chose to disappear, rather than man up and say he was done. That's the sort of behaviour that kills games - like the majority of games he's been involved with.
And you get shot down precisely because - and I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here - you have no idea how argumentative and combative you come off as. I haven't spent a moment of time having to deal with BS from the other players. But you're a constant irritant.
And asking for your input is a courtesy I'm extending to all players in my game. Your opinions are duly noted; but getting your back up when I say I like the player, but not necessarily the character, is behaviour which defies that consultative process. Do you really think a character I don't approve of will be playing in this game?
As for being heavy handed, sure, perhaps I am. I'm also very accomodating with my players and always make sure they don't lose out if I make an error. I go out of my way to ask for their opinions on what I can do to involve them more in the game, then I try to put those ideas into play. You certainly didn't hesitate presenting me with a virtual x-mas list of requests when asked.
Is that heavy-handed enough for you?
Monkeygod |
Virtual x-mas list? Dude, not even close.
A Magus, at 3rd level, can obtain a familiar, by taking the Arcana Familiar. Its straight out of Ultimate Magic, not some 3rd party company, or something I made up.
I then asked if I could have a special familiar that, until I am high enough level to take Improved Familiar, acted as a normal one.
Oh, and I asked if Hannah could have a bloodline that would make her appeal to Ariael more.
How is that even close to a virtual christmas list?? One of them isn't even anything I can't do on my own without your say so. I just asked for a more reasonable way for it to work.
and you came to me, asking if I could help you, because you felt like you were leaving me out of plot.
As for my being a constant irritant, how so? If you bring up the Hezar/Ariael stuff, that was an entirely in game interaction. Party conflict happens. Especially with a human who comes across as pretending to be an elf to a fellow PC who originally was all Elven elitist.
Beyond that, I spoke up when you asked for us to. Sorry I didn't just clam up and roll over.
If you have problems with me, feel free to address them, either here or via PM. Don't be vague, because I don't know what you're hinting at.
Hezar |
never pretended to be an elf big boss.
:)
Monkeygod |
Well, yes, I know that, but Ariael sees it differently.
Besides, as much as it will pain him to admit it, and he actually may never, he's got a grudging respect for your archery and woodsman skills.
Who knows, he may even have that sort of respect for you too eventually, lol.
DM Locke |
Yes, I, the heavy handed DM, reached out to YOU, the absentee player.
Think about it for a moment, then read your last post, and consider again if you're acting as an irritant. You've not even the decency to try and avoid dragging my game through the mud with your antics, then you advise ME to PM YOU if I have an issue?
I haven't hinted at anything; I've been more than forthright about how I feel you conduct yourself. You're argumentative, demanding, and unpleasant. You play your character as an inveterate prick, picking a fight with another player and then saying "hey man, it was all in character!". But you know what, you act the same out of character, as well.
Conduct yourself as you wish, but know this: I play this game for fun as well, and you're really disrupting that fun. And only one of us has to decide you're out of the game for it to be so.
Monkeygod |
Yup, and its me.
I honestly did not want to leave this game, but you're a total ass, refusing to accept any responsibility for your actions time and again.
I've tried explaining a few times that I don't always have time to respond while at work. Then the game moves too fast for me and I get left behind and discouraged.
I point out various issues I have with you, and you claim I am the problem and you've done nothing wrong.
You think I picked a fight with Hezar for seemingly no reason, yet if you look back through the game play, there's been tension from almost the beginning. Eventually Ariael snapped. It happens in real life too.
Belgrin clearly saw it as in game, and as far as I know, so did Hezar.
But whatever, you're GM so we're obviously wrong and you're right.
Go and and continue to be right, but do so without me.
Hezar |
yea, wellonward and upward.
If people are not happy with the game then they should leave, no biggy
Janiries Shaelara |
I'd say we need a cleric first and foremost, followed by a wizardly type. Honestly, the drow application was rather interesting to me. Selin, the conjurer, is the best wizard I've seen in the applications too, though perhaps we'd have to work something out to prevent Locke being overloaded with characters to run himself.
If we're going back up to seven characters, then Tiriael, the bard, is an obvious choice.
Hezar |
the drow was interesting.
as I mentioned I think even party needs lots of Bards :)
I do actually like the shadowcasting gnome idea as well.
actually i like lots of the apps
Hezar |
i like the Ifrit as well
I am no help whatsoever!
Hezar |
jan I figure we will be able to sell all the extra loot soon
