I'd asked for permission to use your doc containing a sample PC tagline and character sheet. No worries.
Oh I see. Yeah my doc was placed in the Gm Kit too and the Pregen folders.
I keep forgetting to allow access only to view.
@Everyone: Sorry for the lack of regular posts between yesterday and today. Between VO Duties creeping up on running 8-99A Solstice Scar at one of my local stores and also coordinating the creation of a Convention to be held in my local area in March I'm leading it., my time has been a bit stretched.
A Venture-Agent Never Sleeps right Redelia? :)
Eric and Larry you guys got it pretty hard too being VCs and all.
I do plan to continue to post regularly though do not worry the party will still move on :)

Got ninja'd by Kitajo, dealing with the guard in the red tunic, so changed my target to mellow yellow.
I used spoilers to hide Gitano's actions/rolls. I usually prefer to make them visible to everyone, but some folks don't like that with a complicated PC like a multi-classed swashbuckler.
Let me know your preference, and I'll be happy to adjust.

Sounds like you're a busy man, Gary. Thanks for all you do for the community.

I might have some questions about how to post in the Campaign thread... I've never used the dice commands on the site before. I'm gathering that we don't need to "ask permission" to make skill checks, though.
Kalindlara feel free to ask any questions you have in here or OOC chat in the Gameplay thread. No permisson is required when rolling skill checks and some others. and its good to roll both your Attack and Damage dice in the same post. For example

I am preparing our Convention (the French one, held in Paris) which is at the end of the month. Our main concern is having enough people!
@Gitano & GM Pepper: Ptehp moved in to give Gitano the flank, since I believe I am the only one who can do so - thus Gitano's readied action can simply be an action (?).
Sounds like you're a busy man, Gary. Thanks for all you do for the community.
Yeah! It was all a ploy... to draw is in here -- and kill us all!
IT'S A TRAP...
Ptehp is proficient in whips (as 1/2 orc alternate racial trait: City Raised) and in scorpion whips (as deity's favored weapon w. Warpriest) and thus, when wielding a scorpion whip (the weapon), can choose to use it as a scorpion whip or a whip.
Scorpion whips: threaten in a 1 sq. radius and do not provoke AoOs
(so Ptehp uses his weapon as a Scorpion Whip vs. adjacent enemies)
Whips: can be used up to 15 ft. away (including adjacent) but do not threaten, and provoke AoOs (note: whips also deal non lethal and do no damage vs. armor, but that part does not apply here since the actual weapon used is the scorpion whip).
(so Ptehp uses his weapon as a Whip vs. enemies at 10 or 15 ft. distance)
Note: thus, if Ptehp uses his weapon at 10 or 15 ft. vs. someone w. Reach, he provokes an AoO.
Other shenanigans (gotta love Standard min/maxing):
• since the Scorpion Whip is Ptehp's Deithy's weapon the damage is now 1d8
• Ptehp has the Phalanx Formation feat, meaning that when using a weapon w. reach he can attack "through" an ally w/o that ally providing cover ("Friends, fight with your legs well apart and your chins pulled in, Ptehp is flicking that whip past you!").
Okay, I have to write this up all nice and proper and put the links in and add it to my sheet.

Your Welcome Kalindlara ^.^
Eric if you have any recommendations for physical cons I am all ears.
The one I am coordinating will be a starter Mini-Con at this time any special guests will be GMs from out of the area pretty much. Current focus is just games and socializing.
Yes very busy between everything I still find time for my wife and two kids. Your welcome and thank you for all that you do.
I knew some of that info on Whips but not all of it. Thank you very much for sharing.

Sigh of relief... I spent a good part of today working on things up for the announcement just made in Flaxseed.
Woot! Thats awesome
GM Poblano Pepper |
Yeah I'm heading most of it at the moment but I think I will be delegating soon as two players in my community who are really stepping up and wanting to help with prep and also running tables.
Gitano Frallino |
Great to hear you're putting an event together for your community!
Stuff I've learned along the way, organizing a few events:
* Recon the location. Backwards plan from the start time. Don't forget to get your requests for Paizo support in before the deadline. If you can meet the minimum 15 tables/sessions, the boon support alone will help you find volunteers and entice more players.
* Line up your volunteers early. If it's small, you might not need someone full-time at a HQ position.
* Assign a variety of tiers, with something set aside for quests, which are ideal for drop-ins or folks with little time to spare. Either assign scenarios or give your GMs an early deadline for telling you the scenarios they select.
* If you can include a table of ACG and Starfinder, you'll increase the pool of players you'll attract. For a short, local event, I generally shoot for a morning and an afternoon session on Saturday and Sunday. One table of ACG, one table of Starfinder, three tables of PFS (one quest/low, one mid, one high tier). That nets you at least 20 tables, enough to get Paizo support and not very difficult to plan, coordinate and manage.
* Start publicizing your event now. Your local venue(s), Paizo.com, any local message boards or forums or social media will work. In addition to those, I also rely on an email distribution list for my community and texting with my volunteers.
* Use multiple lines of operation for sign ups. Warhorn.net is easy to use for pre-event sign-ups. Leave a seat or two open at each table for on-site sign-ups during the Con. If admission has a price or lodging is necessary, then the confidence players and volunteers have that there's something to play, and they can reserve a seat in advance, will encourage players and volunteers to commit sooner to attending.
* If you delegate, make sure your help understands your vision/intent and is capable of executing their tasks, and check in on their progress from time to time. It's not micromanaging, its Leadership 101.
* Be prepared to report sessions to Paizo during the event. Nothing is more aggravating than waiting days or weeks for sessions to show up in a GM/Player history. (Gen Con 2017, anyone? Still waiting...) Reporting takes only a few seconds per session. If there is a problem with the information, it can usually be corrected quickly on-site, while the GMs and players are still present.
(Some of these lessons I learned the hard way.)
GM Poblano Pepper |
Holy crap Larry thank you for this info it's awesome.
To give more context my plan is to have a schedule similar except would also include a Friday night slot.
Each slot would be 3 tables (2 PFS 1 SFS) I hadn't thought of ACG yet but I think that is a good idea. Maybe I can get another VA/VL under my VC to come up and run a table. My intention is to use a reporting sheet another VC used at PacifiCon last year that should really help with keeping info straight and allow me to quickly report the table.
I am also working with my local game stores (two that I regular speak/coordinate with) who are interested in helping out and have offering up requesting distributor support too.
The location is easy for me as my mother has access to a smalish-medium sized event center that had about eight tables and a small alcove to serve as HQ/Check out for board games.
Larry do you have a generalized welcome packet you give to your new players coming in to try?
Gitano Frallino |
I have one for new PFS players and one for new & experienced GMs who run tables at my venues.
I can email them to you, if you'd like.

My email is gary.pepper.ii@gmail.com

I sent you what I use.
Yup, I'll be at PaizoCon. Looking forward to meeting you in person.

Sorry to answer late - was reading all, but have been spending a lot of time in trains and a lot of work etc.
Recon the location. and make little signs to tell people where to go when they get there if that is needed (if it is a shop that's fine, but we are often in a building, where you go in the door and one floor down, and thought it's in all the flyers and info' I send out, people do not read things so you get calls non stop: where are you? - thus now a bunch of red arrows!
If it's small, you might not need someone full-time at a HQ position.
For our small Con' we found out that we normally need one person to man the HQ position in the morning of the first day, but that after that it is pretty much okay to not have anyone not playing.
We organize it so that one person (like VO's) who is playing a slot is the on call person to go solve a problem (and tell the DM that that person might leave for a bit now and then ; and thus choose that you are playing non critical games, not Bonekeep or such). For us it works fine like that.
The other thing we do, is there is one person (often a VO) who is a replacement DM for every slot (you never know if a DM might have a problem and not show up). Either prepping the game to be played (if multi table special) or just having a prepped game ready to sub' for whatever was going to be played.
We never have used it yet, but nearly did once (the DM showed up 30 minutes after start time, so the sub' DM was getting ready).
* Assign a variety of tiers, with something set aside for quests, which are ideal for drop-ins or folks with little time to spare. Either assign scenarios or give your GMs an early deadline for telling you the scenarios they select.
re. this: we put up a lot of tiers early, and then reduce things as we approach (if many tier 3-5 are requested, then just move DMs to those tiers and get rid of some higher or lower ones, even moving a person or two).
* If you can include a table of ACG
No one plays ACG in France and also plays PFS so I do not know about that, but I thought it was 2 tables of ACG = 1 "table" for the requirements (maybe check that number).
But ACG is a good way to do fill table requirement if needed (the games last a lot less I think, 2 hours or so?).
re. reporting, something linked to that is to print a lot of things out.
You probably will have DMs who "forget" to print their chronicle sheets, who "forgot" their handouts at home.
I know it's sometimes a waste of paper, but I print a bunch of extra things (or have a printer on site).
Also, I print out papers for each table with info' re. things like the support you get for spending money (where we do the Con' a local RPG group does a sandwich/soft drink service for cheap and they stamp what you spend so that the table can then get the benefits of the $ spent: heightened CON level for dying etc.). That's the info' I print out for the players.
I don't know how you work things, but we give a die to every person who plays and then they can roll to win a big and a small mini at each session.
It does not cost much (and we spend the money at the stores that host our games during the year to kind of thank them a bit) and it often makes people happy to earn a special die etc. (when we did the Elemental Special 8-00 I think, we bought red, blue, brown etc. dice for the Elements etc.).

Thank you for the extra information and insight Eric.

Sorry for my lack of post yesterday folks It is not like me but Society night last night took every waking minute I had, 8-99A Solstice Scar went off great. Took a couple of Table ran GM pregens but everyone enjoyed themselves. Plus having that opportunity to run it at a store level was fantastic.
Regular posting will commence with today's postings
:)

So as a slight note here I don't not have a computer today. I will do my best to post tonight when im home and hopefully have my computer again.
Posting by mobile device and Swype texting is ridiculous.

Looks like we're stuck at the proverbial crossroads of a decision point about how to deal with the guard. Kitajo and Ptehp, in-character, are patiently awaiting a plan. If anyone has another idea, Gitano's willing to go along.
Don't want to ignore or steamroll over other good ideas. Not my intention at all. Just hoping we can move things along.
Ptehp |
OOC: I think the distraction idea is nice.
Also because my feeling is that if it fails it might not spoil the possibility of a different attempt
Kitajo Uchihide |
I was tempted to have Kitajo approach him and start a discussion about axes, but didn't want to get in anyone else's way
GM Poblano Pepper |
Larry I imagined that Gitano walked up with all the Swagger in the world opened the door to the warehouse and gave a slight bow to Ptehp gesturing him to head on in to do what he does best.

@Ptehp: I'd love to get my hands on more templates, but that link doesn't work for me. I tried twice. The error message says the file doesn't exist.
Thanks.

So a question possed to my VO players do any of you know when Version B of the Solstice Scar was Released?
Ptehp |
In the CRB under Magic Missile: A single missile can strike only one creature. You must designate targets before you check for spell resistance or roll damage.
You choose targets when you cast.
re. 8-99 B: I think it is just out (we are supposed to run it at "our" Con' on the 28th of Jan' and still do not have it, at least - though we have been granted the right to run it).
Enora by Redelia |
My apologies if my posting is still flaky. My kids and I went to our first day back at our homeschool coop since Christmas yesterday, and that by itself is exhausting. Then, it was one of the three weeks we were assigned to clean the church we meet at. We had to stay for 2 hours longer than usual, during most of which I was doing far more hard physical labor than is normal for me, like moving heavy wooden tables around. I went to bed an hour and a half early, and still feel like my head is stuffed with cotton wool.
GM Poblano Pepper |
No worries Redelia. I understand. Not to mention all the VA Duties happening for you.
GM Poblano Pepper |
Sorry no post over the weekend.
Also I am a bit confused. Still learning all the ins and outs of character and option but would someone mind telling me where the granted immediate attack, Gitano is given from Delphinia, is coming from? I looked through everything I can think of and could not locate it.
Isabelle Lee |
It's from id rager - think of it as a "bloodline power" that's active when Delphinia is "raging". In this case, the kindness emotional focus grants the opening strike power, which functions as demonstrated.
I didn't write that section, but I did help out a little (including suggesting that it be id rager-compatible). I think it came out very nicely. ^_^
