Victor is able to make it down but Bambang and Fyssaryx are not so fortunate. The Occultist starts the descent by sliding down a muddy hill and then falling down a 20 foot cliff take 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 damage before he is able to make it down to the bottom. The Aasimar however slides far down the hill near the end through a pair of thickets before landing on some hard rocks taking 1d6 ⇒ 1 damage. Wei slips at the very end but is able to glide down and thus avoid damage.
An archway of stone is set into the side of a small hill at the bottom of the valley. Moss has overgrown many of the details, but one is quite clear. The keystone of the arch is carved with a flame symbol with a stylized rune in the middle. Beyond the archway is a darkened tunnel that leads to a set of massive wooden doors, one of which is slightly ajar. A pair of horses and a trio of ponies lie slaughtered next to the archway, each corpse still tied to a post set into the ground nearby. A swarm of flies hang lazily in the air above them.
Wei Tchak |
"Good point... these animals were slain here, but not eaten, so it wasn't predators, just killers. That's not a good sign."
at least that's what I understand from the description - slaughtered, but nothing about being half-eaten or anything
Bambang Kuwatputra |
Bambang pulled himself together after the bruising fall, certain that he had broken some bones along the way. Grasping his medallion, he silently beseeched the spirits within to heal his wounds.

Some time later...
Bambang draws close to the carcasses, examining them to determine how long the horses and ponies have be dead for.

"Let's camp out a night to gather our strength before we enter. This looks ominous."
Wei Tchak |
"I'd like to get away from these corpses before setting up a camp... they are likely to draw other things than flies... things I'd rather not have to deal with."
Fyssaryx Rageskar |
"If we set up camp we should burn the corpses. Drag them away from entrance and burn them. Or drag them away from entrance for carrion eaters. No good to sleep near them. No good to have the corpses by entrance either."
Victor Mordenheim |
Victor frowns.
"These animals were slain about two days ago by claws and crude blades - whatever happened, it was quick; one of the packs is still full..."
Specifically, containing 2 days worth of 'actions' (?rations), a quiver with 10 blunt arrows, and two pints of lamp oil.
He then nods to Fyssaryx.
"Agreed. I would rather not camp next to a pile of rotting flesh... that said, I am surprised that carrion eaters have not already been attracted..."
Victor Mordenheim |
Ready.
Victor dips one of the torches that the party received in lamp oil, and then lights it with a tindertwig. Once it is burning merrily, he gently glides into the tomb, torch in one hand, and battle aspergillum in the other.
Bambang Kuwatputra |
Bambang called healing magic upon himself once again before he rested that night.

Bambang readies his shield and battleaxe as he similarly accompanies the team into the tunnel.
Wei Tchak |
After getting a good night's rest, Wei Tchak readies to move into the tunnel, weapon drawn and in hand.
Fyssaryx Rageskar |
Looking at their surroundings, Fyssaryx points to the door to the west and the stairs on the middle and anything else of interest...

As the heavy doors swing open, the faint light from outside reveals a long chamber with risen platforms on either side. A faded painting of Kassen is on the far wall. The room appears to be the sight of a gruesome battle, with two bodies piled in the center and a number of skeletons scattered around. An echoing wail can be heard somewhere in the distance, beyond this foul chamber. Six of the skeletons rise up and attack!

Me, dumb. Didn't realise battle map was up. :)
Seeing Fyssaryx surrounded, Bambang trusts Wei to finish off the lone skeleton. He steps forward, drops his battleaxe, and smashes the skeleton beside Fyssaryx with his shield, firmly grasped in both hands.

He then sets about searching the room

He then...

...heads through the door to the west.
DM Amazing Red |
There is nothing of note in the first room. In the center of the next room is a large pool of clear water fed by a fountain on the wall above it. The fountain has a stone statue of a weeping maiden holding the slain body of Kassen, but his head has been broken off and is nowhere to be seen. A voice booms out from the darkness, saying, "Magic is the key." The voice slowly fades, leaving a dreadful silence.
Victor Mordenheim |
Victor raises an eyebrow as he regards the deep pool full of keys.
"Right. I get it - something to do with keys... swimming down to get them seems like an awful lot of effort, though... not to mention, whomever did it would become thoroughly soaked!"
He then turns his attention to the doors exiting the room, to see if he can open them.
...and if they are locked, he will try to pick them - Disable Device 'Take 20' = 30.
Wei Tchak |
Wei Tchak casts detect magic and scans the area, including all the keys.
Wei Tchak |
Wei reaches in carefully and pulls out the magical key. "This was what the voice must have been referring to... that magic was the key."
Wei Tchak |
oh... didn't realize it was that deep, lol
Wei is no swimmer and turns and asks the others... "Can anyone here swim well? There is one magical key among all the others, and it's at the bottom of the pool."
