Gob focuses and manifests ectoplasmic sheen under the barghest. Gob spits a curse and moves out ofthe doorway around the corner. If this thing gets clise to him, it's over.

how did gob make the save? Where is the extra +2 from?

Male Blue; Humanoid (goblinoid, psionic) Nomad 3 (from Psionics Unleashed)/Witch 2

DC 17 save, spent 3pp on it.

Gob pp 26/30, hp 36/36, AC 25

I could have sworn that was an 18...my bad, Gob has the same penalties as Aylmora, above. That won't effect the ectoplasmic sheen, though.

Reflex save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

The quadrapedal creature's feet skitter and slide, but it catches it's balance and does not fall.

Thanadros nails a shot directly into the barghest, which roars in pain.

I am assuming Gornak did the weapon trick on everyone's main weapon, so they are +1 equivelant. He's been pretty religious about it so far.

Gornak up next.

Male Half-giant Psychic warrior 5/Aegis (trailblazer) 1

Gornak will try to make an accelerated climb check to exit the fire pit (I assume it's 10' deep?):

1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (15) + 6 - 5 = 16

Once he's out, he swings his hammer at the barghest. "Fool me once, shame on me. At least I can finally pick on someone my own size!"

with Bless and Big Game Hunter: 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 11 - 2 + 1 + 1 = 163d6 + 13 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4, 3) + 13 - 2 + 2 = 21

"Oof!" he grunts as the wild blow causes him to overbalance.

Gornak vaults out of the pit in one bound, catching the barghest off guard. He swings, but the blow is foiled by the beasts thick hide, a fold deflecting the crushing blow.

Vaclav falls back and begins to intone a new spell.

The barghest lunges for Gornak.

Bite: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23 Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Claw #1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31 Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Claw #2: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25 Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

That's going to sting...

Male Half-giant Psychic warrior 5/Aegis (trailblazer) 1

The bite bounces off of Gornak's force screen, but the two claws remove most of his temporary vigor.

Aylmora & Gob up next, then I'll resolve Thanadros' shots.

Round Two:

Aylmora screams in rage when she sees the barghest viciously savage Gornak. Struggling not to give in to the sudden wave of despair affecting her, Aylmora steps into the spot vacated by Gob and shakily points her finger at the creature, unleashing a ray of freezing energy.

5 ft step to square P,11. Standard action to fire Energy Ray (Cold; manifester level 4) augmented by Wild Surge +2 at the barghest.

Power Points used today: 12/25

Aylmora's AC: 20
Aylmora's HP: 37/37

Aylmora's ray strikes the flank of the barghest, sending spider-webs and ferns of frost across the body of the creature as the flesh beneath blackens. It howls in pain and rage as movement cracks and splits it's hide to reveal red wounds where the frozen skin will not flex.

Or in other words, ouch!

Male Blue; Humanoid (goblinoid, psionic) Nomad 3 (from Psionics Unleashed)/Witch 2

Seeing the effectiveness of Aylmora's attack, Gob swallows his fear and moves to where he has a line on the barghest again, then unleashes a freezing ray of his own.

speaking in goblin:
"The world you knew is gone, beast! Do you feel the sting of your immenent demise after such a long imprisonment, fantasizing about escape?" Gob smiles cruelly at the barghest.

Atk (3pp) 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 - 2 = 14; damage 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2, 1) + 3 = 9

Male Half-giant Psychic warrior 5/Aegis (trailblazer) 1

Gornak activates his necklace and tries striking again.

1d20 + 11 - 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 11 - 2 + 1 + 1 = 143d6 + 13 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (1, 5, 3) + 13 - 2 + 2 = 22

Male Blue; Humanoid (goblinoid, psionic) Nomad 3 (from Psionics Unleashed)/Witch 2

rune master:
Out of curiosity, did you mix the barghest and greater barghest for this encounter to make it tougher? It seems to be large, its saves are as a greater barghest, and its crushing despair is as a regular barghest. I only ask as i ran a pack of them in a nightmare realm in a home game yesterday. Also, why were only gob & aylmora affected by the fear? Were we the only ones that close?

Amulet is caster level 1st.

Gob's ray strikes home.

Gob:
A textbook greater barghest is all.

Gornak's swing sweeps over the monster's head and smashes into the wall with enough force to cave in a section.

Vaclave completes his spell: a white wolf surrounded by a glowing aura of divine light materialises, and with a howl attacks.

Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

The wolf's teeth sink in and enrage the barghest.

Vaclav Channels healing: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4

The barghest starts to flicker as it goes for Gornak and the wolf:

Bite (Gornak): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31 Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Claw (Gornak): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32 Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Claw (Wolf): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21 Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Gornak is savaged again, as is the wolf, but the latter stays on it's feet, snarling and defiant.

Male Blue; Humanoid (goblinoid, psionic) Nomad 3 (from Psionics Unleashed)/Witch 2

Gornak looks at the gouges in his nice new armor and the blood trickling from his body. "Uh oh...that doesn't look good."

He concentrates to his utmost and sends his body surging with power.

It's teeth snap uselessly. Vaclav plies his own bow:

His shot flies wide. The barghest unleashes it's fury again:

Hogarth, I buffed you 'cause I thought you were our best chance to land telling physical damage. Roll better. I command it!

Glad to see Thanadros doesn't need an align weapon buff. It looks like I'm going to have to convert that in to a cure.

Aylmora's energy strikes the creature full square, and it locks rigid as frost spreads like crackling diamonds across it's body. Gob's mind thrust finds no thought's to disrupt (you don't lose the power-points), Thanadros' shots drive into frozen hide, then Gornak's hammer comes down like the descent of the Starstone and smashes the barghest into a dozen frozen fragments that gradually crumble and fade to nothingness.

Nice going, guys! Despite some bad rolling, you soaked up the damage well and kept battering away at it, especially after it got the drop on you so early on.

The candles have a kind of continual flame cast upon them, there are thirty in each rack and they are worth quite a lot all together - you imagine that the cathedral would pay a lot for them, and if not even common people might want them. You can sell them for 25gp each, the cathedral will gladly use them, total value 1500gp..

Hmmm... Now that we've dealt with the goblin threat and Nualia's plans, what do we need to do?

Male Half-giant Psychic warrior 5/Aegis (trailblazer) 1

Gornak is going to report to the sheriff and Shelazu that the goblins should no longer be a threat and that they got rid of an ancient demon to boot.

Sheriff Hemlock is glad to hear that the goblin threat has been neutralised. He and Shellalu are dubious about Gob's plans, but agree that if abandoned then Thistletop will likely be reoccupied within a few months by another tribe of hostile goblins.

Thanadros:
On his own return to the town, Thanadros finds himself being approached in private by Vorvashali Voon, the proprietor of the Feathered Serpent - a place that is part magic shop, part museum. Voon is an odd man with bronze coloured skin and long red hair.

"Master Thanadros, may I speak with you?" he asks after introducing himself. "I assure you, I intend you no harm, but there are matters on which we must speak."

Aylmora:
On your return, Madame Mvashti insists on you telling her the full story of where you have been and what you have done. When you are done she nods, squinting her near-blind eyes at you.

"Don't lose your friends," the old lady says at last. "Something stirs. Something older than old and more evil than the Abyss. It's like a cloud of darkness on my sight...and I am afraid," she trails off. "Don't lose them!" she snaps abruptly. "You'll need them. Don't know what for, but they are important, girl."

Gornak:
Gorvi is relatively sober (a rare event) when you get home, and he swells with pride at the sight of you in your plate armour with the massive hammer.

"My son, all decked up like a knight!" he exclaims and embraces you. "Damn, but your mother would be proud of you, lad." Business is going well, and on the back of your fame Gorvi seems to be trying hard to smarten up and be more respectable. His success is limited, but he seems oblivious with pride at your exploits. Everything you tell him gets embroidered out of all proportion in the tavern, but the towns people are so relieved to see Gorvi less belligerent (and less drunk) that no-one seems to mind.

Vaclav:
A letter arrives from the Church in Magnimar, professing regret at your misfortune on the road, and gratitude that you have opted to resolve the matter personally, as well as praise for doing so in so bold a fashion. Presuming you reply and give a full report, a second letter follows it, confirming your position as permanent Priest of Erastil in the town, a prestigious post for a younger cleric. You have licence to deal with any threats to the town as you see fit, and the letter is delivered by a young acolyte who is able to fulfil minor duties in your absence should the need arise.

Gob:
The goblins accept your leadership, although it's hard for them to abandon their former ways - some show more enthusiasm than others. Tudmunch and Snovli are your most staunch supporters, they back whatever you suggest. Snovli seems particularly touched, although he is always limping from one of the poorly-healed injuries he sustained. To everyone's surprise, he starts manifesting some minor healing talents which elevates him in the other goblins' eyes' to a status close to Gob's. He also seems oddly attracted to butterflies.

Male Half-giant Psychic warrior 5/Aegis (trailblazer) 1

At the junkyard...:
Gornak blushes and swells with pride at his father's praise. "Aw gee, bashing a bunch of goblins isn't any tougher than bashing rats around the junkyard, pa. But..but I'm glad to hear what you said. About ma, I mean. I don't remember her much, but I miss her too."

He thinks a bit and adds, "Maybe we could even expand a bit. I bet I could make some simple weapons and armor, for cheap. Heck, we got enough scrap around here to scavenge materials from."
