GM Phntm888 |
Fortunately, Jeren, you didn't need to make a Perception check to find them.
Reuniting with Jace and NT-2B, you join the rest of the group in the cantina. The rest of your crew is there, along with the client. Everyone seems to be in a good mood.
"I can only stay for one more drink, but I will be happy to toast our new business arrangement." Daaneth, cargo will be delivered to your docking bay in one hour.
People talk.
"Did you hear? The Empire intends to strengthen the garrison. Something about the presence of rebels."
"Rebels my left buttock, they're cracking down on us. Probably going to replace the governor with one of theirs, and quell any resistance by force."
"Careful what you're saying! You never know who might be listening."
Daaneth Qilat |
Alright, than unless anyone has any more business here...
Daaneth happily drinks with his new employer and informs the rest of the crew discreetly about their new deal. After a couple more drink he pays his tab and heads back out to the ship to prepare for the next shipment.
Provided he reaches the Dwarf unmolested he'll also send word to Fialla to keep her apprised of their new deal.
Vessani |
Vessani sighed as he stepped onto the ship. As much as he hated space travel, he had to admit that the ship was comfortable. He made his way to his bunk and hid his vids before going to the mess room for a cup of caf.
Daaneth Qilat |
Daaneth hangs out in the cargo bay until the furs arrive, Jace rushes off to his room, as antisocial as always, but when Jeren and Not2Bee come in he flags them over to kill some time with conversation.
"What did you guys do in the market?"
NT-2B |
"First we observed Wandering Scales in an exchange that I did not understand, then we were followed around a bit by a spy, that Cloaked Wisdom then went after." He pauses, turning towards Jeren "What was the outcome of that, by the way?"
"Per orders, Captain, I also did some eavesdropping, and the news is both unsurprising and unpleasant. There are rumours of Rebels in the system, and the Empire is moving to strengthen the garrison. They may even be replacing the governor with what is called a 'yes man'." NT2B pauses again. "I hope our job is lucrative. I am uncertain of how long we can safely conduct business here."
Vessani |
"I wandered around for a bit, bought a couple personal items, helped get the full story about our new cargo, nothing much," Vessani said with a shrug, taking another drink. "You tell our benefactor about our new job?"
Jeren Vallin |
"Nothing really," Jeren answers NT-2B's question. "He spotted me and then managed to disappear in the crowd. And since he probably knows the place better than I do, he did a pretty good job of staying out of sight from then on. At least, I think it was a he."
"As for the Vurk, I have no idea what that was about," he remarks with a shrug. "Some sort of exchange that barely avoided turning into an altercation."
Daaneth Qilat |
Daaneth barely has time to register the information before Haral arrives with his men.
Jace barely talks to us, but he almost gets into a fight in the market place? The rebels forcing the Imps to beef up security and we picked up a tail in the short time we've been here?
"Hey Jarl," he calls over the ships comms before letting Haral in or just out loud if he's in the cargo hold "If what our droid friend here says is true, I'd like to be out of orbit before Harals heels hit dirt. We can handle loading the cargo, get the Dwarf prepped as quickly as you can. Not2Bee, stick around until I get our destination from Haral, once he tells us where we're, going plot a course ASAP."
Daaneth then lets the human on board and starts moving the cargo on.
"So, where is this all headed, you got the first half of our payment?"
Subtracting 20% for Fialla and splitting six ways we get 1333.34 each. I'm assuming we round down to nearest whole number?
Jace Concorkill |
Once he gets to the room the vurk will carefully open the package and begin to see if he has detect some Force prescence of Quen Pah.
Use the Force Check 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Jarl Tehnos |
Jarl responds, "Good idea no need to stay here any longer if things are going to start getting hot. Damn Rebels, don't they know there is nothing that can be done about the Empire?"
Pilot Check to prep the Ship 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Need to get those bad rolls out of the way!
GM Phntm888 |
Thankfully, the roll was unnecessary. You just can't quick-start it. Jeren, if you're helping load the cargo, give me a UtF check.
If you want, you can also start a ship fund with some of the money, to cover the costs of the ship. Other wise, round down and figure out who gets the leftovers.
"My cousin will meet you at the space port in Essenx City. He keeps a close eye on the comings and goings of ships, so he will know when you arrive. He will give you the remainder of your payment - of which this is but the beginning."
He hands you a case, and then his workers help load the cargo in the bay.
Jeren Vallin |
Seeing as how there is not something pertaining to prepping the ship for launch that Jeren can busy himself with, loading the cargo seems like something to do.
Use the Force: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
NT-2B |
Use Computer: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Having received the information for their destination, NT-2B quietly removes himself from the cargo area and travels to the bridge to update the computer and navigation systems in preparation for their trip.
Daaneth Qilat |
Daaneth accepts the case graciously and places it in a secure place.
"Hey Jace," He says over the comms "get down here and earn your pay!"
Then he gets to work moving the cargo.
GM Phntm888 |
"None at all, my Iridonian friend. My cousin is well known, and the officials are quite friendly." You get the cargo loaded, and Haral bids you farewell and pleasant travels.
NT-2B |
I believe it was a DC 15 before? Either way, I should make a note to get updated navigation data when we get somewhere.
Galactic Lore: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
While we're on the subject, do I know anything about the system R3784? Hospitable planets? Things to steer clear of? Etc. Once I know if I know anything, I'll fill in the captain / crew.
Jace Concorkill |
The vurk will try to wipe off the tears from his face, splash some water on his face and go down to help not saying anything but doing what needs to get done. When done he returns to his room.
Jeren Vallin |
His eyes widen for but a moment as there is something, a... sensation of sorts, coming from one of the crates as he helps load them. 'Familiar,' he thinks to himself. 'I know that... that feeling.' There is a certain amount of frustration at almost bringing to mind a memory but not quite, reaching for it but not touching it.
"What did you say the cargo is?" The question is directed at their Captain, Daaneth, once the work is finished.
Daaneth Qilat |
"Some furs lined with jewels. Why did you see anything weird?"
Daaneth doesn't really seem to be paying attention. He still trying to figure out why their resident Vurk is so intent on not making friends.
"Can you run me by what happened in the market with Jace again? Has he spoken with you or Not2Bee since the...the almost fight?"
Before anyone can answer he sends another message over of the ships comms.
"I'm calling a crew discussion once we're space side, in whatever part of the ship will keep all of us most comfortable."
He then turns back to Jeren and the droid to continue their previous conversation(s).
Jeren Vallin |
"See? No," Jeren replies after a moment's thought. "Call it a hunch. I am sure you have had your share of those," he continues with a smile. "And hunches being what they are, are we allowed to open the crates? Or maybe just one?"
"As for Jace earlier, he seemed to be in a bit of an argument with someone. Still, things did not go too far before the other person seemed to calm down. And then they both went their separate ways." He shrugs. "And no, he was not particularly forthcoming with information about it, at least not while I was still with him and Not2Bee. And then I went after our stalker."
Daaneth Qilat |
"Hmm, alright, well, it's only been a few days, so I guess I don't know enough about Jace to really say, but given how he acts with us, something still sounds off about that story. Don't know what to make of the tail you picked up either, and as far as opening crates..."
Daaneth stops to consider Jeren's hunch. Togruta tribes had a tendency to trust each other implicitly, but that had rarely worked out well for him out in the rest of the universe. After a moments consideration he sweeps his montrals behind his head and bares his pointed teeth in a broad smile.
"I did tell Haral that I'd be inspecting any cargo that was placed on my ship. Come on 'Cloaked Wisdom', let's see what your hunch get us."
Vessani |
"He hasn't really said anything to me," Vessani said, walking with the others to check the cargo. "I don't think he's really said anything to anybody yet. And we should probably use the mess room for any crew meetings."
GM Phntm888 |
Jace, none yet, but more as you accumulate them.
Jeren, you only felt the aura from one box. Is that the one you want to check?
Jeren Vallin |
Let us open a couple or three more, leaving that one as the third or fourth to open. Kinda movie-like that way, plus it makes the hunch look like a hunch rather than a very specific Force radar thingy. If nothing seems to be amiss in the crate he felt the aura from, he will open another one just to shift any weird suspicion Daaneth may have about the guy and his hunches. If needed, he will also Use the Force to get a better sense of it once it is open with a Force Point for good measure.
Vessani |
Vessani went to a random container and lifted the lid, only to be attacked by a baby rancor!
...Actually, nothing attacked. He checked around inside to see if he could find anything amiss.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
NT-2B |
NT-2B floats back into the Cargo Bay as the group has begun to open crates. "We are on track to pass through R3784 in 3 days time." Pausing, he observes the scene, unsure of what to make of it. "I was under the impression that those crates were our cargo. Why are you opening them? The person they belong to may not appreciate such behaviour."
GM Phntm888 |
Daaneth Qilat |
"I was under the impression that those crates were our cargo. Why are you opening them? The person they belong to may not appreciate such behaviour."
"I told Haral that I would be inspecting any cargo placed on board, we haven't tampered with the cargo, so I'm sure it'll all be fine. Now that we're done, we can reseal it all, yes? Sorry if I'm mistaken Jeren but I don't believe we actually found anything."
So much for that hunch.
"Thank you, by the way, for plotting our course Not2Bee."
Jeren Vallin |
"Well," Jeren shrugs, "can you blame me? It is not like we will be dealing with the most trustworthy of individuals in this job, right? Truth be told, we may even count as such ourselves on occasion and depending on the circumstances."
With one last look at the once again closed crates, he follows the others out of the ship's cargo bay and into the mess room, as Vessani suggested, and waits until all of them are gathered.
"Now then, what is it we are to talk about?"
Daaneth Qilat |
"Money, is what I want to talk about. Figure we all have a stake in this ship so we should figure out how to take care of it."
Daaneth sends a message to everyone to meet in the mess, and once they've all arrived he places the case with their money on the table.
"Ten thousand credits, half the money from this job, right here for the taking. I can think of a lot of things to spend it on, but when I think responsibly, the best option is upgrading the Dwarf. I'm pretty sure NT-2B agrees with me at the very least."
He does some quick math in his head then proceeds.
"Now, technically only eight thousand of this belongs to us, then I figure we can set aside another two thousand to outfit our new home away from home, giving us one thousand creds each from this half of the job..."
He pauses long enough for any objections to be heard.
"If we just take Fialla's full cut from the second half of the payment, we can look for a decent shop between here and Essenx to set us up with some upgrades worth up to four thousand creds, I'll see if any of my old crew can recommend anywhere discreet, maybe we can add in some hidden compartments to make our career as smugglers a bit easier."
Jace Concorkill |
Arriving at the meeting, the vurk takes a seat. Listening to the captain he inquires, And what would some of those upgrades be Captain? Are any more pressing that others? after the captain is done speaking.
NT-2B |
NT-2B nods, having been considering the same sort of arrangement. "As the Captain says, hidden compartments will be important, especially as different systems have different laws. Anywhere the Rebellion flares up, the Empire clamps down. And since they don't know who is or isn't smuggling for the rebellion, we all become targets."
"I would make the case that having a medical bay is important as well. As it stands now I will be able to do little more than watch you bleed out."
Daaneth Qilat |
Daaneth starts responding to Jace as the droid does too.
"Well, smugglers compartments like I just said. Maybe a better navigation system,"
He stops and lets NT-2B finish, "Sorry for talking over you there, Not2Bee. But yes, the medbay needs upgrading we could use better weapons, maybe better shields, something to mask our ship from identification, hyper drive upgrades. This list is never ending. With four thousand credits, we wouldn't be able to afford too much yet, I'll pitch in my own creds if we decide on something we really need that is more expensive."
Daaneth Qilat |
"Yes, that's why we're here, discussing that."
Daaneth gives the Vurk a strange look then looks at the rest of the crew.
"Provided the rest of you agree with everything else said, we can opt for a few smaller upgrades, or just go all out for one larger one, thoughts?"
