From my point the view, it really should be a decision from Cyroul since he is the DM. Also, I would find it really hard to give an opinion on any new characters since I really hate knowing about other's backstories out of game.
But, I agree that we really need a new healer. If Tharjuk hadn't been the first one to get killed, he would have been able to save whoever was getting attacked....
I am personnaly fine with getting a new player that any of you knows.
Irnk, Prodigal of Old Deadeye |
I'me not entirely convinced we need a healer. We have five characters, with 20 point builds. The feeling I had was that Tharjuk probably would have survived if his Player had still been playing him. We have two characters who will be able to provide healing, particularly at higher levels.
I'm not vehemently against adding another character, I just don't believe it is quite as vital as people are making it out to be.
Apex Stormshard |
A healer wouldn't hurt. Apex absolutely wouldn't take infernal healing as a spell because it's against her personality, at least as she is now. Maybe as she opens up more, she'll be less opposed to the idea of a spell with evil connotations, but for now she fears that it will make her less good. The accidental killing of her "husband to be" scarred her, and made her doubt her goodness.
That being said, Irrnk has a point. We may very well be able to survive without a healer. We are a very solid group with intelligent players, and stronger than the ap calls for.
All that being said, an in character recruitment thread with this group.... Now that would be interesting....
Irnk, Prodigal of Old Deadeye |
Please don't anyone take me saying 'I think we can do fine as we are' to mean 'You're chicken if you want more of a safety-net'...
I just don't mind playing a bit closer to the edge is all. Which is kind of ironic, because my characters tend to be more 'risk averse' than most.
edit: At least the ones that I didn't build with both Intelligence & Wisdom as 'dump stats'...
Irnk, Dead-Eye's Prodigal |
Technically, this kind...
I know she isn't, really, except she does have a neg. modifier on Wisdom & only a 10 Intelligence...
So it feels like I've dumped her Intelligence, even though I've actually put points into it...
Galford Dao |
Matryed? Now that will be a fun character to roleplay. DOn't mind if I borrow your character for another campaign I'm joining in RL?
I feel that we could be fine and another healer isn't really required but I'm also not opposed to another healer/player. If need be and GM allow, I could always take a level in oracle or something after a restat of course. lol 10 cha isn't going to be helping anyone.
Avan the Aloof |
I'll make a post in the gameplay thread later on, I am going to head out to work now.
After reading through everyone's posts, here is what I propose: We vote on whether to go with option A or option B.
Option A: In Character Recruitment
We start a recruitment thread...preferably Sybil since by far her character is the most 'sensible' of the group, we'll of course list character build information and ask that posts be made in character and then the rest of us will begin interacting with those character, finally we'll cast votes via PMs and see who gets in.
Option B: On with the Adventure
We continue on with the AP and see how we do, if we feel that we really need another PC to join us, we'll consider recruitment.
I vote for Option A, not just because I feel we need another PC but because an in character recruitment sounds like an interesting idea.
Sybil Vekker |
I would vote for B.
I would prefer to have a new member, but recruiting in character would be strange right now. The weirdest thing would be that it would need to be out of the game entirely, meaning that everything that would go on in that thread would have to be forgotten once the game starts. I would find that slightly disappointing as such thread allow the characters to know each other a bit and to play that during the game.
The only way I can think of doing this right is by going back in time when all the characters were at the Rusty Dragon just after Ameiko chose those that would go and investigate the goblin activity. That would be the least of a stretch. The only weird thing would be the reason why the character did not follow the others into the marsh immediatly but we can always imagine he had another mission or he simply got late or something. Also, the other problem I see is that Irnk would not really be able to participate.
If anyone can find a solution to these problems, I will be more than happy to change my vote.
Irnk, Prodigal of Old Deadeye |
@ Galford: Go right ahead. The initial concept of a Sarkorian Tiefling taking part in a reconquest of the Worldwound to 'take her own back' isn't even mine really. I think it was one Mikaze posted, I just tweaked it some...
As to voting, I would obviously prefer B, but if we do decide to pick up another, I like A as a means of choosing...
GM Cyrioul |
Galford - Should you choose to take a level in a healing class, yes, i would recommend Oracle, as it could be something that comes on suddenly, rather than something that you would train or study for for years (i.e., Clerics).
As far as restatting goes, I'd rather not. Retraining rules from Ultimate Campaign are always an option for stat increases. I'd rather not go with restatting - your character is now established.
GM Cyrioul |
There will be a point when you return to Sandpoint after your time in the swamp. However, it will take a while of RL time to get to that point, so we wouldnt want to start this unless you knew you were going back to town soon. I'm glad you like the idea of an IC recruitment - it definitely makes more sense to me now that you've all bonded over Tharjuk's death.
Apex Stormshard |
The other option would be to do the recruitment in character, by deciding to take Tharjuk back to the city instead of burying him, though it's still a stretch we already buried him. So... I'm down for option B at the moment. At least until we reach a point where it makes sense to recruit in character, and in game.
Just my humble two cents.

Hmmmm Roger that.
I haven't done any retraining for any of my games so far.I'll need to read up on those rules.
*Edit. Crap There's no retraining of stats... I guess the only class I have left is Alchemist (14 Int) since Cleric (Wis 12) and Oracle (Cha) is out.....
Galford Dao |
Ok A class I seldom play but hey why not?
Am going to be reading up on witches....though I hate the familar restrictions.
Galford Dao |
A Tengu who became a witch with a Raven familar...
Ok this is amusing.............
Galford Dao |
I'm just gonna stick with Alchemist. Makes more sense as a prankster, I'll be experimenting with things.
Tharjuk's Journal would be my Formulae Book once I reached that level.
Galford Dao |
Have one of that.
The inspiration makes it ermmm pretty strong in the Knowledge Skill department and I've seen a Int maxed out Investigator demolished a PFS Scenario in 10 mins.......
I'd prefer to take an archetype for the alchemist too.
Avan the Aloof |
So we aren't even attempting to see how we do without a healer? Or is this contemplating for possibilities once we get to 2nd level?
Honestly I am all for it now, and as it has been mentioned before, we've got some heals from your spells and will get some more when Sybil picks up infusion discovery.
Galford Dao |
I think the Bloodrager is fine though it's obvious that most players would pick the 'optimal' bloodlines.
I ran a season 5 Library of the Lion at my recent Con and finished in 10 mins. The table was in shock, well I was in a slight shock even though I went through the character sheet.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also in regards to the game, I think we're just discussing future leveling and we could be fine without a healer. I just need to spend more points in UMD and we need to fight smarter.
Let us try going on without a healer. Makes for Bragging rights too when we prove good at it. :P
Irnk, Prodigal of Old Deadeye |
Here is my present difficulty. Since the character died, we have had, literally as many Discussion posts as Gameplay posts, and the vast majority of them have been about 'what to do now that we have no healer?'.
I genuinely feel like the game is stalling out because we are spending more time & energy worrying about something that may or may not be an issue rather than the very real concern that the game will just die because people aren't keeping the momentum up.
rant over. Carry on.
Apex Stormshard |
And my bonded staff will allow me to cast any one spell I know once per day, so that will be for support, such as Mage Armor for Avan or Enlarge Person for Irnk.

Lol about Irnks comment! But no, not goblinophobe. She just did not take the beard joke really well! and let's face it, the wisdom of Irnk is not over the top!
On the contrary, Irnk's wisdom is entirely 'over the top'...
It's just not very good...Irnk, Prodigal of Old Deadeye |
Okay, I feel as though I may be coming off as more abrasive than usual & I want to apologize if that is the case. It occurs to me that somewhat greater than usual realworld stressload (son's birthday which I won't be able to take part in because of work schedule & final exam for class due on Monday) at the moment. Please don't take my comments personally & let me know if you feel I should back off on something.
Avan the Aloof |
I probably said this before, but just in case I didn't here it goes: I am really enjoying the rp of this group, really liked that scene with Apex, and its good set up for when her character develops as the story goes on.
Honestly though I really feel sorry for Sybil as by far she is the most sensible one of the group and at times it feels like she had unknowingly adopted four troublesome children.
Sybil Vekker |
No worries Irnk. Sorry to hear about missing your son's birthday... that sounds pretty sucky.
On another note, I am back from the short trip and ready to go on playing. Thanks for the good wishes.
As for Sybil, if she really is taking care of kids instead of comrades, get ready to get the mean and/or awkward Sybil!
