A Mission of Mercy

Game Master greg white 722

To add to the ravages of a brutal civil war The Schaler Trivarium must also now suffer a terrible plague. You have accepted a mission to deliver a vital supply of much needed serum to the system. Delivery of the serum and other much needed medical supplies to an awaiting hospital ship, it should be an easy mission.

No INT mods...so I guess just a straight roll??

Wake Up! 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8

So a groggy Boone stirs himself to consciousness.

Thaya swinging her club: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 2) - 1 = 4

Dr. Feldspar, do you want to take another swing at Thaya?

Dr. Aurora Feldspar F34 (34) SI MD 343B82-A(U)

Yes, please.

Unarmed: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 6) - 1 = 10
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1

A grazing blow; but your can hear Fineline rushing towards the Bridge now.

Sobbing in rage and frustration: Thaya launches one final attack.

Thaya's attack: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 4) - 1 = 5.

Aurora draws back with a double-handed hammer blow.

HTH Attack: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 6) - 1 = 7
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5

Thaya reels from Dr. Feldspar's blow. Que the ST:TOS fight music. .

Fineline rushes onto the Bridge.

Thaya staggers away from Dr. Feldspar, lurches towards the console, her truncheon raised in unsteady hands.

Shaking off his sleep, Eli stumbles after Fineline.

"What's happening?"

Male Human Pilot

Anson has no time to answer Eli's query, focusing on stopping Thaya before she wrecks their only chance out of this planet and the war, to saving the lives of countless others with the medicine they had.

He draws his laser pistol and shoots Thaya.

Laser Pistol (TL 11) {2d6+dex}: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 1) + 1 = 6
Damage: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 4, 2) + 3 = 10

Minor action to draw, significant action to shoot.

Thaya slumps dead against the console.

"I didn't intend to kill her!" Aurora says, rushing to the fallen woman's side. She checks for a pulse and, finding none, sighs heavily.

Boone and Georg come running up, and stand silent, taking in the tragic scene.

Male Human Pilot

"Neither did I," Anson says heavily, and sighs. "But she would have killed us all… and more besides."

Anson stays silent a few more moments before speaking again. "Georg, you might know best how she would have wanted her body taken care of. We have to continue working and get out of here. When we're off-planet, we can deal with what happened."

Boone shakes his head sadly at the scene.

"Nothing you could have done Doc. Like the captain siad, she would have tried to kill us all."

Georg: I understand I have to pay for my part in this. But those who pulled the strings, those who put this into motion: they have to pay too! Particulary that witch Cortana Walder!

It was quite a way back, but Walder was the chief of security aboard the station where you first loaded on the serum. .

Male Human Pilot

"What did she do? No, wait, answer that later. We can't get distracted now. Someone check on any movement near our position or relevant transmissions."

Anson continues to prep the ship.

Eli moves over to the sensor station and checks the active and passive systems.

Sensors: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9

Boone : Hmmm. Some IR signatures, from out 16 km. out. Looks to be heavy vehicular traffic.

A teary eyed Georg helps Dr. Feldspar in the grim task of carrying Thaya's body back to the remaining, empty low-steerage (coldsleep) berth.

After the Bridge is secured, Fineline rushes back to prepping the vessel for immediate take-off.

"We got something heavy coming this way. Lets get out of here before it arrives...what do you say captain?"

He attempts to gain more information on this target while Fineline gets the ship ready for takeoff.

Male Human Pilot

Anson looks up from his prep to communicate. "Monitor them and see if you cna get any more information. Let's hope prep is finished before they get anywhere close."

How much longer for prep, assuming I make sure everything is set? And what if I rush it or enlist other people to help?

Boone, make a sensor's check.

Fineline, well, with everyone's help, maybe another 20 minutes.

Male Human Pilot

Anson gets on the comms. "Something's going this way, I need everyone's help to prep the ship so we can try to leave before it gets here."

Boone, please make another Sensors check.

Oops..sorry thought I already did this...my bad..

Sensors: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 5) + 2 = 11

This is a new test.

There are several search radars, probing in your direction, which Boone is able to jam, using the slaved ECM suite in the downed chopper.

"Come on people I cannot keep us covered from their EM sweeps forever. Lets light this bird and fly the nest already!!"

Fineline, while there is more that you could do, you think you have done the bare minimum to make your vessel ready.

Male Human Pilot

"Done. Strap yourselves in and get ready." Anson begins the pre-flight preparations, methodically checking everything over before starting lift-off.

Pilot: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 6) + 1 = 10

After a quick but sure running over of the checklist, Fineline throttles up the engines.

Fineline, make another Piloting test (+1 DM).

Aurora quickly finds a seat and straps in.

Male Human Pilot

Pilot: 2d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2, 2) + 1 + 1 = 6

Damn, you're going to have to burn a lot more fuel that you originally planned to get to escape velocity.

Male Human Pilot

What does that problem mean, specifically? If we hypothetically lift-off now and head back to The Schaler Trivarium as planned, does it mean we won't have enough fuel before we arrive at a friendly station that can give us or sell us fuel?

Anson bites his lip, trying to figure out a way past the newest problem. Perhaps if he took it slower or diverted some of the fuel use…?

In the meantime, what roll would be appropriate to figure out a workaround? Engineer? Engineer (J-Drive) which Boone has? Mechanic?

Lift-off from a planetary body requires a huge amount of reaction mass, and you really hadn't budgeted for it (of course you didn't expect to be hi-jacked either). You don't know if you enough to make it back to the jump-point at the edge of the system; make a test, no DM, and if successful there's a gas-giant in system where you can scoop some hydrogen.

Male Human Pilot

2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12

Making some quick calculations you figure you can reach the gas giant easily.

Boone, another Sensors test.

Sensors: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 2 = 5

Shaking around in his seat, Boone calls over to Anson.

"That was pretty rough, are we ok?"

Boone curses, in the maneuvering he hadn't been paying attention to his board: you've got some AA missiles tracking you.

Fineline: another Piloting test.

Male Human Pilot

"Just some unforeseen problems, but I think we'll be fine."

Pilot: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 6) + 1 = 13

Fineline easily evades the incoming missiles, as he throttles up, hurling the Luis Wui and its precious cargo out of Engarno's atmosphere and back into the safety of space.

"Great flying Captain! Glad to be off that rock and back into space!"

Male Human Pilot

Anson exhales through his nose heavily, in relief, even as he continues piloting the ship to he route he set.

"Thank you, Boone," he says, before addressing everyone. "I'll be heading the ship towards a nearby gas giant to refuel before we jump back to the Schaler Trivarium itself. We've got through the worse of it but keeping an eye out is still important. We're not done until we've delivered our cargo."

So you are hailed by the monitors as you leave orbit: they will let you resume your mission, but Georg, and the bodies of Thaya and the Major have to be turned over to them first.

Male Human Pilot

Anson replies by asking for their reasoning for turning over the bodies as well as Georg, considering you are escorting them to the proper authorities in the Schaler Trivarium to be tried and also as evidence.

They explain that they need confirmation that you are no longer under duress.

Male Human Pilot

"How did you know about that?" Anson's eyes narrow in suspicion. "But the fact that they are dead should be confirmation enough. We require evidence of their duress and Georg is willing to testify."

Is there anyone else in the bridge with me willing to offer their opinion? Is Georg here too?

Georg and Dr. Fineline have taken Thaya to the remaining cryo-berth. Boone is still with you

In the lower berths : Georg To Dr. Feldspar I know I've got to pay for the part I played in this, but what I'm worried about is that I might be 'silenced'; I know that there was big players involved in this.

"Whats the matter captain? If they want them why not just hand them over, along with this shipment and we can pickup another cargo and get out of this crazy system."

Sorry been moving and just got internet back up!
