Holding on our last victim.

Everyone has arrived at the late Petros's home. His daughter Kendra, grandson Petros II (Junior) and great aunt "Granny" greet you each as you arrive.

They provide warm tea and fresh bread, promising a more hearty meal after the funeral procession.

@ Sirsi:

Spoiler:
Junior certainly has grown since your delivery two years ago. The house looks almost the same, but now with disorder common to homes with little feet. It was odd, but you did not see the sturdy great coat of her husband hanging next to door.

@ Seraphine:

Spoiler:
Now you finally meet the reason for the Professor's sudden but happy departure from the university two years ago. And he is just adorable! He looks just as he was described when Pertos returned.

@ Ysmerelda:

Spoiler:
This home is truly filled with sorrow. Poor Kendra, Petros left as quickly as he could three months ago, the news of his son in law's accident drove him home at great speed. First her husband, now her father, poor dear.

@Hotrek Shieldson:

Spoiler:
You had not heard from your old friend in some time, the news of his death was a shock to you. Petros was aged for a human, but still in good health when you last met.

Edit: For horrible spelling, again.

@ Sandalero:

Spoiler:
How the old man even remembered you, you fear to say. Perhaps magic, perhaps he had you tracked, maybe he many friends across Ustalav...It was with great surprise that you received your notice and even greater surprise you where named in his will. Perhaps a belated apology for the death of your father?

Kendra explains the walk will begin soon, but you have time enough to freshen up and perhaps talk for a time. She suggest leaving your packs here for the time being as you must return here for the reading of the last will and testament of her father.

@ Deivon:

Spoiler:
It did not surprise you to learn of Lorrimor's death, the man had a way of finding trouble and diving in head first. You always felt that if one like you were not around, the man surely would have died ages ago. It did, however, shock you that you where required at his funeral and named in his will. You always knew he thought highly of you, but never in your dreams as well as this!

She gives Kendra a big hug upon greeting her, then hugs granny.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm Seraphine. I'm not sure how much he told you of me, but I was a student of his.

Seraphine puts her pack down, and accepts the offer of tea and bread. As she nibbles on it, she squats in front of Junior.

So, what's your name, little one?

In a small but clear voice he carefully pronounces his words

Hello, I'm Petros, but you can call me Junior like everyone else does. Are you here to put Grand Papa to sleep? Mommy says we are waiting for some really, really, reeeeaaallllyyy good friends of his. You have really pretty hair Serf..serpik..Seraphine!

Reach out to gently grab a lock and look at it.

For a two year old, he is quite tall, perhaps half a foot taller than most his age you have met.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Ysmerelda sets her pack & gear aside in the room made available before quickly washing up and returning to the family's common room to make her proper courtesies to her hosts. "I'm certain I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but Professor Lorrimor was a fine & good man. Please let me know if there is anything I may do to assist you in your loss." As she accepts the refreshments she seems, for a moment, about to offer a consoling embrace as well. An offer she seems to decide not to make as the youngest member of the Lorrimor family responds to Seraphine.
"I do not know that we are 'really, really, reeeeaaallllyyy' good friends of your Grandfather, but he was a dear & valued friend to us." She replies, squatting to bring her own vantage closer to the boy's.

Kendra: Father had several students he loved. I remember him telling me about you often a few years ago, he mentioned if you didn't burn down the town, punch out the headmaster or explode, you would be the talk of Ustalav!

Junior @Ysmerelda You must be really important some how then. Papa went to sleep..um..one..two..ya, two times at church after Father Grim Looks told me he went to sleep forever. He wanted to put him in the ground, but we had to wait. You have pretty hair too.

Gently grabs a lock and begins comparing the two strands.

I like the red a lot..but the gold is really pretty too...

He looks determined to decide which hair is prettier.

Kendra @ Ysmerelda:Father told me about you, in fact most of his friends and students. He said your road was rocky and rough, but you would see it to the end. Your a..Paladin of Shelyn, correct? Father never told me what classes he taught you, only that the road seemed a better teacher than him.

Also, Ysmerelda

Spoiler:
How and are you hiding your claws?

GM Scotty:
Excellent question. Most likely she simply tries to pass them off as unfashionably long fingernails.
In the soft-play session in the inn I seriously considered making mention of her idly using one to scratch deeply into the table while she refrained from joining the rough-housing. She specifically avoids fistfights for that very reason...

Gently rustling young Petros' hair in response to his comment regarding her own, Ysmerelda nods at Kendra's query. "There aren't many called to her...
martial aspect.
Particularly not when the Inheritor & the Dawnflower seem such a closer fit, so-to-speak."
"I suppose if I had grown up differently, I might have followed the call of a different deity, but in my hour of need the Eternal Rose was there for & so I am now here for her, and for those who need me."
Smiling somewhere between a grimace & a grin, Ysmerelda continues. "Your father wasn't actually my...
teacher.
He was visiting The Academy of Grand Arts in Pitax as an 'Expert Speaker' on the invitation of my actual teacher, Master Ursion Albus. Who is in fact a Paladin of Shelyn, though a bit old to be campaigning any longer, which is why he now focuses on training those comparative few who both hear our Lady's call & the call to arms."

How sad to lose both father and grandfather at nearly the same time. And Kendra her father and husband. But did I hear him correctly, put to "sleep" two times?

Hmmm...that is a tough one...But luckily I have both. She lifts one of her gold locks to show him her two toned hair.

Hah! That sounds like him to say that. Well I didn't explode, punch the headmaster, or burn down the town. I did become the talk of Ustalav though, but only after burning the beard of a professor.

Female Human Oracle 1

Seeing the Professor's family is strange without the Professor, Sirsi finds her throat catch as she crosses the threshold.
"I'm sorry for your loss, your Father's influence was felt far and wide"

Just realised that I never sorted my gear, I'll get on it now

@ Ysmerelda:

Spoiler:
So no gloves then? As they are weapons you will need to use bluff to pass them off as such, a believable lie, so no penalties. Disguise is another way to hide them. It would be at +5 (+5 for minor details, -2 for different race, +2 circumstance bonus for gloves hiding your most obvious feature. Let me know how you want to play it.

Male Varisian Dirge Bard 1

After returning from cleaning up, Sandelero stands quietly off to one side, sipping a cup of tea and watching the toddler speaking with the women.

Never thought about the Professor having a family of his own before.

Kendra:
Smiles widely at Sirsi Hello again Sirsi O'bannon! Welcome back!

She looks happy to see you, in spite of her pain and loss. As she seems the same as each walked in, sad but glad for the company.

Granny:zzzzz....

Kendra @ Sandalero: Your...Sandalero Oberichi, correct?

She seems pensive, possible a little afraid.

Ya..your hairs it prettier! You gots two pretty colors!

Kendra: What he means is we went to church two times after my father...started sleeping. He has been gone for a little over two weeks. The Father Grim "Looks" has been preserving him until your arrival.

Wriggles her eyebrows at her son with "Looks".

Sandalero is trying to hide his discomfort at being in this place, talking to the family of the man he has never really thought of as a real person.

Yeah, that's me. I didn't know the Professor had a family. Or that he remembered me really. I didn't see much of him in the couple days after; uh; after we met. And I haven't spoken to him in the years since.

You're supposed to tell her you're sorry for her loss idiot.

I'm, uh, I'm very sorry for your loss.

She walks slowly over to you, as one approaches a skittish horse, and carefully hugs you.

Kendra @ Sandalero:He remembered you. Very much so. He watched for you as best he could, through friends. He always hoped you would set aside your anger, but you never did. He never had the chance to express his gratitude, so I do so in his place. Thank you for saving my fathers life. You showed more bravery than many hardened warriors who stood with my father. He would have been proud to have you as his friend, if what he said of you is true, so would I.

Sera laughs at the eyebrows, wriggling her eyebrows the same way.

Grimlooks, huh? I think I have seen a few of his relatives, the other "Looks". Serious, Stern, and Disapproving "Looks". She contorts her face accordingly at Junior, imitating each "Look".

She stands up.

Thank you for waiting for us to put him under, but there was no need to. I would have come and paid my respects regardless. Honestly, I was surprised to hear I was even in his will, though. Do you know why?

The letter from the professor was shocking to say the least. All those travels with him, the escaping from deadly traps, the seeking of dubious tomes has all come to this letter.

The professor had passed on.

His family appears the sames as he last time he saw them only that the little one has grown like a weed. Reaching forward to Kendra, he tiptoes to give her a pat on her shoulder.
"Stay Strong. The professor was a good man. I'm sorry for your loss."

Setting down his pack carefully to avoid jostling it too much, he places it with great care in a corner of the house to avoid the risk of anyone else bumbling into it. Turning to Kendra once more.
"What would you need us to do?"

The question is simple but it conveys more than what is spoken. It states that Hotrek is here and what he can do to help he would to the best of his ability.

GM Scotty:
Let me be certain I'm following properly. If I don't wear gloves, I will need to make a Bluff check to pass them off as simply long nails. If I do wear gloves, I will need to make a Disguise check?
Or is it that if I do wear gloves, I won't need to make a check at all.
If I do wear gloves that aren't armor quality, would I need to take them off to use the claws or simply accept that if I did attack with the claws while the gloves were on, the gloves would then be useless to conceal them afterwards?

Smirking at young Petros' obvious infatuation with Seraphina, Yesmerelda whispers aside to Kendra. "It's probably better in a way. Children so young need to focus on the living, not the dead."

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16, to be certain there is in fact no need for our presence at Professor Lorrimor's burial.

Female Human Oracle 1

Sirsi looks at the others who are gathered, The professor wanted us gathered together... did he have a plan for us?.. something he didn't have chance to finish?
Outwardly she keeps half a smile on her face, watching Serephine and Junior.

[dice=Knowledge (religion)]1d20 + 7, to be certain there is in fact no need for our presence at Professor Lorrimor's burial.

Spoiler:
No gloves, bluff check. People will notice you are not like others, but may not be skilled enough to identify you as a changeling.

With gloves, disguise check with a big bonus. You could just take ten and avoid most unwanted attention. Only under scrutiny would your heritage possibly become exposed.

Taking the gloves off would be a swift action, attacking through them would give them the broken condition, and no concealment.

I guess the real question should really be, does Ysmerelda try to hide her not quite human nature? If so how? If she does not, how does she deal with the prejudice of others?

Religion, most neutral and good faiths that bury their dead have a habit of a procession with the body/casket being carried by friends and family to the grave site. You are merely waiting for the last person to arrive. I messaged him, stuff, family, etc. he will be along in a bit.

Kendra @ Hotrek: Father requested you to be a pall bearer.

You are all allowed to do so, if you want.

I will lead the procession to his grave. There will be a ceremony held with the Father and then we will return to the house.

The mayor will arrive and read my fathers will. All of you are named, but in what way, I do not know.

Then dinner, I guess.

Outsider Phantom 2, HP: 18/18, AC 15 /t 11 /f 14, F 4, R 5, W 0, Init +2, PasPer 15, Darkvision 60'

At mention of pall bearers, Ysmerelda looks at the others gathered. Specifically, she compares their relative heights...
and then compresses her lips together to prevent the mild sniggering from erupting.

The women are close enough in height not to be too much of a problem...
I...
suppose the dwarf & I can match each other well enough...
Oh Petros, I do hope you can enjoy this.
Wait, why would we be named in his will?

Seriously, Ysmerelda is literally at maximum height for a Changeling & she is still less than five feet tall. They are tiny for a Medium size creature. Dwarves are almost as tall...

GM Scotty:
Ah. Alright. She does not attempt to conceal her inhuman nature. She doesn't flaunt it, but she doesn't hide it either. She simply acts to prove it does not solely define her.

Male Dwarf Fighter (Foehammer) 2 HP: 20/20| AC: 20/10/20 | Fort: +5| Ref: +4| Will: +2| Init: +3| Perc: +6| CMB: +5| CMD: 18|W.Hammer: +6;1d8+3| D.Longhammer: +5;2d6+4| L.Bow: +5;1d8|

Hotrek startles. He's honored to be asked to be a pallbearer but he knows he's short. Far shorter than anyone here in fact. If he were to be pall bearer, it would be with both hands up just to maintain the height.

He looks around, slightly abashed. His height had not really caused much problems until now.

Hotrek is a little over 4 feet. not very tall either. I can just imagine how funny it'll look like as Hotrek as a pallbearer holds up the coffin with both hands up.

Male Varisian Dirge Bard 1

I suspect that in a universe where pallbearers may be of a variety of races, the coffins might be designed in such a way that it would be expected that some bearers would use their shoulders while others use the handles. Perhaps there would even be two sets of handles to allow for the widest variety. In the real world, it's all one or the other, but I would think that a mix of both could be made to work if the bearers had a two foot height difference.

In any case, Sandalero doesn't feel it would be appropriate to be a bearer himself when many others were much closer.

Male Dhampir Inquisitor [Kinslayer] 1

Deivon, having put his things away, makes his way back to the group. He gives Granny and Kendra a nod. "I'm Deivon. I'm not sure if you remember me Kendra, we met once in brief passing a few years back. Didn't say anything, was just near your father. In any case, I am sorry for your all's loss. He was a fine man, and may Pharasma guide his soul to good realms beyond." His hand falls to his holy symbol, a small prayer offered in silence to his chosen patron deity.

As he learns that he has been offered the right to be a pallbearer, a look of amazement crosses his face. "I'm deeply honored for the opportunity." He was shocked. Called for a funeral? That he could understand. Will reading? Probably Lorrimor thinking he forgot payment on something and posthumously wanting to make right. But pallbearer was a right usually reserved for close family and friends. Maybe Lorrimor thought more of him than he thought.

He turns to see young Petros near the girls and he slowly approaches, lowering himself to look at the oddly tall toddler. "I'm sorry that your papa went to sleep, young one." Children were usually the most difficult to judge in funerals. Some simply took it in stride, not understanding. Other would flip, not understanding. He looked calm though, so a simple and sincere message should suffice.

Female Human Oracle 1

"It would be an honour, Kendra, though I wouldn't want to offend those with a closer relationship."
Sirsi considers fishing around in her possessions for a gift for Petros, but decides against it... maybe later.

Deivon steps closer to Sirsi, stopping himself from putting a hand upon her shoulder. "I am certain the Professor asked for us by name. But, I would make the suggestion that the family walks before the casket, if that is fine. Old Pharasman tradition, the family leads, the friends carry."

His hand remains on his silver holy symbol, following the gentle swirls on it.

Kendra: I can handle it, I will lead. My father had several friends in town, they will help carry him to his rest. I believe one of his other students and his mother are staying at the inn, they will be in attendance as well. It is possible he might wish to help as well.

And another 14 down, bear with me folks, work is more challenging than normal this week.
