Ah, I see. Tychi might not be the best fit then. :( And my work life is making it hard for me to find time to rebuild him anyway (second time in two weeks I've had to back out of a recruitment).

Dark Archive

That being the case, may knowledge, social culturosity, utilization of deitic awareness for gaining the upper fist in this battle for the Lord that summoned us...and most importantly, patience, planning, observational fortitude guide the one to victory that is ultimately chosen. To all those with the aptitudes required for this endeavor, I wish you the best of success.

All right! Got my guy built. Full crunch, basic background, appearance and personality, answers to all your questions, and an alias. Here is Hajime Midoriya. He's built to function well socially, in combat, in stealth, pretty much a proficient all-rounder.

Excellent submission. Very well laid out. I have always liked investigators.

everyone else....

Recruitment Closes in TWO Days. Get those submissions in!

I should finish tomorrow. :)

Look forward to it. Any hints?

You and me both! I tend to like generalists over specialists in RPG's anyway. I know it's generally not optimal for party balance but it keeps me invested, having something to add to nearly and situation as opposed to being the healer, or ranged, or arcane.

Don't know if I will have the time to modify the character but I thought I'd give it a try. Another recruitment that is moving slow on just getting on its feat had me reanalyzing a character I have not managed to get into a game. I always built him level 1 but level 7 opens more possibility for expansion on story, motivation, and goals. I know both Path of War and fighter type have been essentially shot down but I thought I'd make a pitch.

Pitch:

I am thinking a warder/stalker. You said you didn't like Path of War but didn't forbid it. Path of War is more powerful than standard classes, I'll admit that, but this is a solo game so a little extra power isn't a bad thing. Also, I think the maneuvers and disciplines fit better than the standard fighter in an Asian themed world. A real martial artist feel to them.

And with the two classes together, yes he will be very fighting oriented which I think is far more interesting. A stoic, warrior with little in the way of court acumen or knowledge, wading through the intrigue and subtly like a bull in a china shop. A no non-sense, straight to the point kind of diplomat. With the human dual talent trait I can balance his stats quite well without tanking anything. Charisma will obviously be low but he will be surprisingly intelligent and insightful.

I am drawing heavily from a Manga called Kingdom for inspiration. It's a bout the warring states era in China which is where this could go. The short backstory is that [name in progress] lost his family to the fighting when he was very young. The family that took him in after that were killed as well. Unable to survive on his own, he was forced into slavery. While his master wasn't cruel, he wasn't nice either. But [name in progress] had dream. He wanted end the fighting that had been his childhood for so long. To unify Minkai into one group of people. That meant he would need to be strong. Strong enough to convince them to work together or force them to. So every chance he got away from work, he trained and trained and trained. He somehow managed to keep his father's weapon and taught himself how to use it. The war's chaos displaced a lot of people and lot of them turned to banditry. One such group attacked his small village, simultaneously relieving him of his slavery and giving him a small bit of notoriety as he slayed the bandit's leader. The warlord happened to be nearby, back from a skirmish, when he saw the smoke from the fires the bandit's set to the village homes. He witnessed the lads brave stand and offered to make him a soldier in his army. [name in progress] has been serving his warlord faithfully since, even growing to respect the man. Why, they have the same dream. The warlord of Wanshi wanted to be the first to unify Minkai and elevate himself emperor in many centuries. Not for the tyrannical power, but to put a stop to the fighting. And [name in progress] would do almost anything to make that happen.

And since maneuvers would cover most things a feat could, I was thinking of adding Leadership as well. Its just a really good idea. I was thinking of the cohort actually being the warlord's daughter. She doesn't like either of their approaches to diplomacy. She is idealistic and believes they can solve things through talk. The warlord sends her to try and convince others to help and secure aid while he continues to war. It keeps her out of the fight and away from what he thinks is the reality of the world. [name in progress] is sent as her guardian. It's her mission but he has the authority to overrule her, thus she is the cohort. Odd I know.

So is this even worth pursuing?

On second thought. I might just flip flop the main character. Make the cohort above the main character. I'd still need confirmation on the Path of War but its less important in a cohort. And if I want a diplomat maybe bard or sorcerer. Gotta think fast.

Now that I think more about it, Leadership seems to be a popular route. Maybe this should be a duo game.

Sorry if I was unclear.

Path of War will NOT be considered.

I've got the majority of my character done at this point. If I take leadership, do you want me to have a cohort already, or would you prefer to work that out after the game starts?

Also, are we actually using full WBL? I ask because the Automatic Bonus Progression rules suggest you use half WBL, so...

You can just give m the highlights of what type of person and there role (story wise and mechanic wise) will be.

Also, WBL is good. Lots of shiny stuff to buy!

Damn. Well I don't think I have enough time to flesh out both anyway. Wish I had seen this sooner.

...like a fool, I missed the Automatic Bonus Progression.
So I have a query for your DM decision-ness; would the enhancement bonus from the Black Blade stack with the Automatic Progression? I know they normally don't but figured I'd ask. I might rebuild slightly if not

Mai Yoshiro from earlier. Profile mostly done - need to add some items.

If chosen, I'll flesh-out Constable Tak; he would need his own alias.

Should I post all of the character info here or should I leave it in my profile? I see both ways done and I wasn't sure if I should be doing it one way or the other.

Sweet I was going assuming half WBL as Automatic Bonus Progression says. I have to spend a bit more money. No hints :) will be done soon. You will either love or hate it :)

After some consideration, I'm going to say no.

Sounds good to me.

Either is fine, really!

Buy lots of good stuff!

Grand Lodge

as we are nearyng the deadline

GL to everyone :)

Got a bit busy here at work today. Almost done with crunch. Should finish that and story tonight and post.

Okay! In that case I think I'm going to move some stats around and rebuild as a Kensai. Which will also be thematically appropriate for Tian!

Well then I guess everything is just in my profile and I think it's all done.

Alright! I've got the crunch all ready, but I want to have all the fluff squared away before I post anything. I'm planning on making my character a member of a lesser, or perhaps disgraced, noble house, who serve the lord of Wanshi as a way to protect or retain their status. My vigilante activities, of course, will be entirely under the table. Does that sound like something that would work?

Sounds perfectly fine to me. I am intrigued.

Liberty's Edge

Just to prove that you've got a whole thread of mostly silly people I didn't notice the Automatic Bonus progression either! I'll adjust if I'm selected, since it makes absolutely no difference to either the fluff or the core mechanics for Isabel. :)

Looking forward to the decision one way or another. *crosses fingers and considers how much of the Imperial Treasury to offer as a bribe... ;)*

Okay! Rebuilt and adjusted the background to accommodate; Hajime has now also served as a duelist for the Lord of Wanshi.

Here is my submission, most of him anyways.

Question about the ABP (Automatic Bonus Progression), if you pick intelligence for your mental bonus do you get the same bonus skill that a headband provides? Or do you get retroactive skill points to spend as normal?

P.S. Hope his store boat and guardians are not over the line, their fluff dressing. I promise I won't add sprinkles, yes I have sprinkles I could add. Sweet, devious, sprinkles. After all I didn't spell out the traps and possible hired muscle. xD

A very inventive submission! I like merchants, indeed I do.

I'd like a bit more on where you plan to go. Which realm I mentioned (or didn't mention) is your likely first stop and why? Are you looking to convince people via the goodness of your cause or coin (or trickery?)?

I would rule you get the skill points when you reach that level of bonus. So retroactive. Make sense?

Recruitment ends at noon tomorrow.

So we get the mental bonus at 6th level, does that mean we get 7 skill points or 2? Little confused here.

Plan:

May change once I get some sleep, running on fumes a little. But off the top of my head.

Rileng would target Shokuro first, it's leader is originally from Minkai and so would have personal feelings towards his home. Even if he is still bitter over his exile Rileng would use that to his advantage. Regardless the leader of Shokuro could be persuaded to involve himself in Minkai's affairs once more while also acting as a restraint for the governor should he be tempted to succumb to destructive habits like arrogance. After all he would risk losing his support or his life, would not be the first corrupt lord Toriaka has killed in Minkai.

As to Rileng's methods, any and all that are needed. Whatever works best with the least risk. As his merchant nature dictates. Personally he is a bit amoral, dealing with good trusting people and living in such a world would be preferred. But if he has to bribe, pay, or manipulate to get the same result he has no problem with it. He has a personal code, that's the lawful, but it's not a moral one that restricts him from doing what needs to be done, that neutral is not for nothing. ;)

Myth-Weavers Sheet

The Kamakura family, a lesser noble house, have served the lord of Wanshi for generations now. There are those who would call their family lap dogs. Touko Kamakura, a young woman with a gift for courtly intrigue, has taken quite well to her role, despite certain shortcomings. Her features are soft, but sadly, her body leaves much to be desired. In fact, some might say that if her family could no longer afford to keep her in dresses and jewels, one might even mistake her for a man. Still, her aptitude in diplomatic matters has earned her a well-deserved reputation that keeps her detractors quiet.

---

Rumors abound that the Whisper's Shadow, an enigmatic ninja who has been plaguing the lives of Minkaian nobles, is an agent of the lord of Wanshi. But each time he's appeared, he's left so little of a trace that voicing such accusations would be political suicide. Those few who have seen the Whisper's Shadow and lived describe him as an androgynous figure that seems to blend into the darkness, and makes no sound, not even the shadow of a whisper.

I tried to keep things concise. If you have any questions, or you'd just like to know more, let me know! Also, I do have a general idea of who her cohort would be, also available on request.

Edit: I almost forgot the caveats from the original post. I would most likely seek out either Hwanggot, for political clout, or Shokuro, for military might, depending on which seems most prudent based on our initial standing.

** spoiler omitted **

Skill points from Int increases are retroactive - so I think we'd get an extra 7 skill points. :) Would bring Isabel's total to 106 if she went for Int.

Recruitment is Closed!

Well, this was a tough one. As usual the forums produced an excellent crop of characters, Sadly, due to the solo nature, I can only choose one

However, I will say this, some of these PCs have inspired me. Do not be surprised if I send messages talking about other games. Might be tonight, might be a few months, but don't be shocked if you see a private message from me!

So now, on to the main event. Whoo will be locked in an epic political struggle in Tian Xia, to save Minkai from itself?

Destorya! and her PC- Xuya, a kitsune ninja/sorcerer.

Destorya, go post in the Discussion thread and we can hammer out details.

The rest of you,t hanks so much for the time and effort you put into it. And remember, I may be sending you a message soon!

Liberty's Edge

Congrats to Destorya - I hope you have fun!

Crossing my fingers to hear from you soon Mowque!

Grand Lodge

Congartz to Destorya. Go have fun :)

Dang! Always disheartening to not get picked, but congrats to Destorya.

+1 on the congratulations. Enjoy the experience!
