About weaves currently available an such - did we get the new weaves from leveling without sleeping?
Also, do we still have weave slots used up since the previous encounter, or did the level up reset that?

So i have some bad news to relate:

Jasmine will no longer be playing with us. RL has reared its ugly head, forcing jasmine to step away from the group.

I wanted to take a moment and say thanks to Jasmine, since she definitely played an AES SEDAI to the hilt, and was successful in her portrayal of an Aes Sedai demeanor.

With the loss of Jasmine also we formally loose Jed as well, since jed was her warder, and i was having jed play as an DMNPC while jasmine played. But no longer.

for story line purposes, i will say that Jasmine and Jed just go off, and are no longer with the group.

As of right now, the group list is as follows

Rhoekk
Fiallian
ALathea
Litheene
Amorial
Amar
Tesliin
Ryland
Jolial

Jasper has been left off the list because he is a DMNPC.

If you have a rough concept you could start there, if you think you could figure out the crunch with my house rules, i'd probably believe you. Concept and background are pretty much the most important right now.

And I just finished catching up through both threads. I really want to apologize for letting this go for so long. I can try to make excuses, but to be honest there just isn't a good one (well, without lying, and Aes Sedai can't do that). I just haven't managed to set aside the time to fully read what's happened.

Looks like about to have a fight, it would seem. I'll go over my weave list next to see what I should have left at this point.

Once again, I'm sorry :(

And here we go!

20 years gaming, 15 yrs DM

so i went looking for the shield rules, couldnt find them in the discussion page from the old postings. But, i will post what is from the netbook under the dragons banner. I think the choice was the first one...

shield from UTDB:

Shield (Revised)
(By Kevin Binswanger)
[Spirit] (Common)
Level: Level 3+
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Line of Sight to cast, No range to
maintain
Target: One person
Duration: Concentration
Saving Throw: Will negates
Weave Resistance: Yes

You cut a channeler of the same gender off
from the True Source, preventing him from
channeling and immediately ending any
weaves he is maintaining through
concentration. Although the target cannot
channel, he remains embraced to the True
Source and does not need to embrace it
again once the shield is dropped.

Revised version 1:
The level of the weave cast must be at least
equal to the level of the target. Each level
at which the weave is cast higher than the
level of the target increases the DC of his
Will save by one. For example, a 6th level
shield cast against a 4th level target will
increase the DC of the target’s Will save
by two.
-2 Casting Levels: If the target is not
embracing the True Source, reduce the
level of this weave by 2 casting levels.
The target’s Will save is still modified as if
the weave were cast two levels higher. So,
in the example above, the effect of the
weave is still cast at 6th level, but the
channeler only uses a 4th level weave slot.

Revised version 2:
This version of shield is cast at 3rd level.
To shield a target, make an opposed
Concentration check. The Concentration
check for both participants is modified by
their Power Rating (sum of the subject’s
Intelligence bonus, Wisdom bonus,
Charisma bonus, and levels in channeling
class, as detailed in Prophesies of the
Dragon). A victory by the shielding
character indicates that the victim is
shielded, as detailed in the weave
description. Should the victim win the
opposed roll, she is not shielded. Should
she win by 10 or more, and has the ability
to weave shield herself, she may
immediately attempt to shield her attacker.
This is a free action and requires another
opposed skill roll. The battle of wills may
continue until one character is shielded or a
character wins the opposed skill check by
less than 10, which disallows a retaliative
shielding attempt.
If the target is not channeling and has not
embraced the True Source, the channeler
receives a +6 modifier to the opposed skill
check.

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 5

I think it was the second one, as I remember rolling concentration checks against shielding targets. Thou in this version, it isn't clear which effect does extra casting levels have. Also, revision 1 makes it nearly impossible to ever shield someone level 15 for example.

However, it's not really obligatory what was before, as you are a DM now, it's basically your call how shielding works.

20 years gaming, 15 yrs DM

lets go with option 2

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 5

BTW, I suggest the following additions to the shield rules, to reflect better the subject in the books:

a) When trying to shield a circle, all of the circle members add their power rating to the roll of the controller of the circle, cumulatively (it is very hard to shield a whole circle, especially a large and/or strong one).

b) If a circle is shielding, it also adds the bonus the same way to it's offensive roll (a circle of 13 shielded Rand).

c) Each additional casting level, adds +1 to the roll. (This reflects that in the books, channeling with an Angreal did help shielding, while in the rules it doesn't).

d) A tied off shield can be unwoven. This requires 1 minute per level of the shield weave, and it's made via an opposed concentration check against the shield's initial roll. The attempt gets -10 on his check. On the other hand, the shield gets -1 on it's check, cumulatively, for each hour since it was tied off. An attempt can be made once per day (total, regardless of number of shields) for each main channeling ability modifier.

What do you think?

EVERYONE-

i just wanted to point out something noteworthy.

As i was researching some rules, i made an interesting discovery. The group that was formed under Jonasty started playing 1 year ago this month. this group includes the following: Litheene, Fia, Ryland, myself, and Alathea.

Next month, in november, it will be the 1 year anniversary for my group, which includes tesliin, jolial, amar, amorial, and rhoekk.

So congrats to all for making it a full year!!!

Nice, Rizzen. I had figured that it was getting close to a year that I've been playing Alathea.

Thanks, all! I've enjoyed the last year of gaming with you!

20 years gaming, 15 yrs DM

i was reading through the rules for the adam and found out that there isnt anything written about the transference of damage, or taking extra damage, when the sul'dam takes damage.
ill have to come up with a rule to rectify this...

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 5

A year already? Nice :)

About the adam - it also doesn't mention the inability to use weapons or attack the suldam. Actually, the way it's written in the rule book, an adam can be easily beaten, unlike in the series.

Female Borderlander Initiate 5 / Aes Sedai 3

Okay, not going to lie, was a little at a loss at how the shielding was working. I think I understand it now, but another problem.

In your version, Rizzen, you had us roll concentration into composure. Are they separate now and I just missed that? Because if so, Tesliin has no ranks in it. Just need to know how to go from here.

20 years gaming, 15 yrs DM

I had forgotten that i made that change. Thanks for pointing that out to me tesliin

1 person marked this as a favorite.
20 years gaming, 15 yrs DM

there is an issue that was just pointed out by tesliin. Some channelers have ranks in both composure and concentration. some only have ranks in composure, since i rolled both the concentration skill and composure skill together.

That said, some minor tweaks will have to be made to characters sheets, im thinking for the best.

If you have ranks in concentration, feel free to move those skill points from concentration into composure (remember not to exceed the maximum allowed).

any points that are left over can be either held in reserve for learning the "invert" skill, or can be distributed to other skills.

I am sure some people will reference concentration and composure separately, but from now on, they both reference the same skill.

20 years gaming, 15 yrs DM

I am sure some of you have noticed that i put out a recruitment posting for a new channeler, to fill the slot that jasmine/jed had left.

I am pleased to say that someone has created a new character and will be joining the party. I will allow the poster to introduce their self, and allow the rest of you the chance to interact, both in game and out of game.

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 5

First of all, welcome Ryvin :)

Regarding the composure-concentration change: do bonuses to concentration also transfer to composure from now? I mean, they are just one skill from now on, like the other skill merges from pathfinder?

20 years gaming, 15 yrs DM

yes, they are considered one skill. so the bonus from concentration/composure adds.

so ryvin can add her composure/concentration score to the total.

Female Human Wilder 9; Init +3 (+1 Dex., +2 Duelist feat); Senses Perception +4 Defense 21 (+1 Dex., +6 Def. bonus, +4 chain shirt) hp 50/68 Fort +10; Ref +7; Will +10

While you're cutting me off from the Source, how about getting this thing off my neck? ^^;

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 5

I'd be glad to, but cant hit it from afar. Actually I plan to air lift you out of there soon. You don't want the same thing that happened to the last damane I uleashed in the middle of them. Let's say that to the horror of my character, it was a rather unpleasent expirience for her.

Alternatively, if the matron goes down, and Rhoekk should be able to take her, now that she is no longer behind the air wall, then we can rush in to help you :)

BTW, Tesliin, can you harden air in place both the matron and her suldam? Then they'll be easier to target, and we will be able to ward them against the power, to stop her from weaving at us or at our weaves. Or, if you can delay initiative and place a master ward her after Rhoekk's turn, in case he decides to shot at her, it can also work. I have a strong feeling that she will attemp to cut either my shield on Ryvin or the other damane.

20 years gaming, 15 yrs DM

Making an addition to the way shielding works for this game.

Shielding a person while linked.

If 2 or more people link, and then attempt to shield another person, the person who leads the link is able to apply both composure and power level bonuses to the roll. The other who is linked (or multiple people), will only be able to apply just his or her power level ONLY to the roll, composure cannot be included.

and example:

Litheene and alathea wish to shield Fia. Litheene and alathea would first link, and then decide upon who would lead. Litheene is chosen to lead, so her total to the roll would be +31. Alathea would only be able to add a +15, which is her power level.

linked pair example1d20 + 46 ⇒ (6) + 46 = 52
fia1d20 + 34 ⇒ (12) + 34 = 46

in the above example, the linked shield attempt is successful.

linked pair example1d20 + 46 ⇒ (6) + 46 = 52
fia1d20 + 34 ⇒ (19) + 34 = 53

the above example shows a bad day for alathea and litheene.

Female Borderlander Initiate 5 / Aes Sedai 3

I can Harden Air, but as far as Master Ward goes, that's one I don't know.

Female Human Wilder 9; Init +3 (+1 Dex., +2 Duelist feat); Senses Perception +4 Defense 21 (+1 Dex., +6 Def. bonus, +4 chain shirt) hp 50/68 Fort +10; Ref +7; Will +10

I know it. I have ideas for all sorts of useful (and nasty) tricks for your convenience. :) It's a mercy the Seanchan haven't been using me to my full potential.

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 5

Too bad you are still so far, it will take time to get you to us. And we can use all the help we can get against this uber, half dragon, damane there. She has a pending firestorm on us, personally I've exhausted nearly all my channeling for today, and she seems to only be warming up.

Following the rules on linked shielding, maybe it's best to link. Also, Tesliin, I've had master ward up until my action, so you can use weavesight on it.

Though the harden air can buy us the necessary time. Don't cover the Suldam too well though, she needs to be a good shooting target :)

Anyhow, I have a plan:
If someone can weave a ward against the one power on the matron, then we can buy us enough time to link (the time it takes her to cut it).
Alathea, you have the strongest weaves here, and you've got the other Angreal. If you can land a 7 level ward on her, you can also cover the other damane, and then even if the other damane breaks my shield, only the matron should be able to cut your weave. Just leave Ryvin outside.
Then, Fia, you have the best attack of us channelers, can you somehow cut the leash Ryvin's adam from her collar?
Finally, Joliar can lift Ryvin with arms of air from where she is, to us. It will take time, but his weave is invisible to the matron, and he can multiweave other stuff at the same time.
Next round - we all link, except for Joliar (who can deal with the other damane in case she breaks the shield, while lifting Ryvin) and shield the matron.

What do you think?

Female Borderlander Initiate 5 / Aes Sedai 3

Didn't think about learning weaves from the combat. Was actually going to ask about learning a few later if possible.

Still no book, but if Rizzen doesn't mind, here's a Weavesight roll for it. I don't know the DCs though or anything.

Weavesight: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22

On that topic, think tonight I may just start typing the weave descriptions into my character page. Carpal Tunnel, here I come!

Human (Aiel) Algai 2 / Wilder 5 / Wise One 2 HPs (89) | F+ (10); R + (10); W+ (12)| Perc +17
Spoiler:

I can sure try to cut it and set Ryvin free, but I think the only way to do so is to remove the collar. Keep in mind Fia has never seen one of these things, certainly not up close, and certainly has never manipulated one. What would the AC / DC for something like this be Rizzen?

Aiel HP 123/80 | AC 26 (T 25, FF 22) | CMD 27 | F +7 | R +12 | W +5 | Init +8 | Per +16

Where does Rhoekk fit into your plan? I can move to help the other men at arms hold the door, but they are only outnumbered 3-1 and can probably handle it. I was intending to try moving around through the alley and attacking the channelers from the side. If I can sneak up, I can probably disable the matron outright. If not, well, you can try to save me. ;) Thoughts?

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 5

Actually you are the only one so far to conclusively effect her, so if you can continue feathering her suldam it might bring her down. Litheene is still against actually killing her though.
She might get a cover bonus from being partially encased, but on the up side, she can't move.
If you can get to meele against the matron, it would be great. We can cover you. Worst case scenario, we air lift you as well, or master ward at the very least.

Ryland, Amorial and A'Mar are blocked line to line against the guards from what I understand, so our warriors and thier warriors mutually exluded themselves from engaging enemy channelers. Besides, a warden, Ogier and wolfbrother against 9 guards? I doubt they are in any serious danger, at least not in the short term.

Fia - cutting the leash won't free her. It will merelly allow to lift her without tagging the suldam along (and I'm not sure if it's possible to catch two people in the same arms of air). Then I can uncollar her at close range. The leash is actually simple leather connecting the bracelet and collar for pyshical and symbolical convinience only. It is not really a part of the adam (as terangreal) per-se.

P.S. it really is an oversight on Litheene's part to forget explaining how an adam can be operated (and removed). I'll be sure to do so the first oportunity we get our hands on one.

Human (Aiel) Algai 2 / Wilder 5 / Wise One 2 HPs (89) | F+ (10); R + (10); W+ (12)| Perc +17
Spoiler:

Can we tell what weave level was used to harden that air? It may be easier to take it out than to go around. I dunno, just a thought.

As to the leash, yes that's quite a bit simpler than I was envisioning originally. Fia can cut it, but she basically has two options: burn it to a crisp with a fireball (which is going to hurt Ryvin and the suldam), or get close enough to use tool of air (i.e. 40 ft).

I think that will take a minimum of 2 rounds to do alone. 1 round to create a bridge of harden air to run across, over the heads of the soldiers and sloping down to the other estate, 1 round to run on the bridge and get near enough to cast, and then to attack the leash itself.

Or she could spend rounds jumping out of windows and running across.

Crazy Aiel!
