Oy, Lightfoot! I'm thinkin' ah buyin' a scroll to help keep m'head in combat. Not that long ago one of my allies turned against me and landed a killin' blow. I can't have that happenin' again. Are y'able t'cast Calm Emotions? Would y'be willin' t'read it if things went sideways? If so, I'll be off t'make th'purchase with all due haste!

I am not a huge fan of confusion!

[Introduction]

As you head out from the Grand Lodge in Absalom, you see around you many, many Pathfinders who appear to heed the same summons as you. The day is clear without a cloud in the sky. It's a little hot outside, but not unreasonably so.

You begin heading outside the walls of Absalom, like instructed. Out here, the are members of the Pathfinder Society who direct you where to go, but it is almost not needed by the sheer amount of other Pathfinders around who are also heading in that direction. As with most missions, you are heading out with a group (That's y'all!), but it appears there are many more groups that just one on this occasion. You see many faces, both familiar and unfamiliar.

Your instructions were clear. Meet up 5 miles North of the city - teleportation not needed for this occasion.

Trying to not get too far ahead of others for now. For the official record, the game is not officially started until August 27, so your characters are not "locked" until then, but some RP doesn't hurt.

Purchases you want to make are fine for now right now.

Feel free to start the character introductions, and to initiative sharing war stories or comedic banter, or whatever else! - Right now, you are headed on foot to the meeting site with this party you met up with at the Grand Lodge.

Raven blinks his glazed eyes a few times, then focuses on the Dwarf.

"Yeah, Calm Emotions... sounds right." he nods a few times, his eyes and mind still seemingly trying to focus - they don't. "Happy to carry it for you."

He looks to be counting for a few moments, before pointing to one wrist sheath: "Cure Light, until I find something better..." then to the other: "Breath of Life. Just in case."

He sniffles slightly, then again, his eyes darting back and forth. He opens up a small pouch and seems to be counting - again, then cursing under his breath.

Golsan nods, then shuffles off toward the commissary. "This summons seems important. Better be prepared."

Golsan walks straightaway up to Lightfoot. "Now, here y'are. Use it when y'see fit." He hands him the scroll. "I dunnae of annithin' else what can stop a friend who thinks yer a foe.

"Oh! Nearly forgot!" He pulls out six sticks of various sizes and markings. "Which one are ye, now? Ah, yes!" He shuffles through them, finally landing on a long, thin wand of ash with barely discernable carvings near its base and what appears to be 39 tally marks running up the shaft. "There ain't much left in 'er. Last guy said it's about 80% shot. Cheapest cure stick th'make. Ye'll probably have t'zap me with th'whole thing if it gets too bad!

Raven pauses for a moment as he's walking, looking at the wand and tucking it into his belt.

"Yes, Wands are useful... but I need new shoes..." he pauses for a moment, licking his lips as he thinks. Suddenly something strikes him and he reaches into his pocket for a whistle. He blows it a few times - silently - then waits. After a few moments a hippie-looking-wizard-type floats through the crowd toward him.

The two greet, shake hands, and gems and pouches are passed back and forth for a few minutes. Raven nods to the man and he floats away.

New shoes, a set of gloves with gemstones across the knuckles, a few potions and odd looking vials come out of pouches and onto Raven's person.

After he's satisfied, Raven pulls out on of the vials, turns away from people as much as he can, then drops an empty vial on the ground. After a quick shiver across his body, he shakes his head again, then stretches, then jumps straight into the air.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 38 ⇒ (19) + 38 = 57 ... leaping 14+ feet straight up into the sky.

He chuckles when he lands, a bit more excitement in his eyes.

"So, uhhh, frontline, big weapon, I'll get behind them if something happens, right?"

Garam floats along above the heads of the crowd, an unusual sight even in Absalom. He is an impeccably dressed, short and rather scrawny looking half orc in well maintained travelling gear. Scrolls poke out from pockets and pouches and he is flipping through a pathfinder chronicle as he floats along muttering to himself...

"Time, time, there's got to be something in here...Brigh maybe, what as that mess in the woods....why cant they ever let things well....oh dammit..", not noticing that he has drifted downward he nearly bumps into Golsan threatening to knock his helm off.

"Oops, sorry about that, must learn to look where I am going. So, it looks like they have teamed us up together. The name is Garam, nice to meet you both, I wonder where the rest of our team have gotten to?"

Golsan reaches into his pouch and pulls out a wand. A small stick figure is on one side of the handle, and a large stick figure is on the other. "Can ye shake this at me later on? It'll shoot out golden dust tha' swirls around me and makes me grow. Takes a bit o' time; some would rather not. But if yeh get the chance?"

"Yes, of course. I am a scholar of many different disciplines as well as a magician of a little skill."

Garam takes the wand from Goslan and examines it carefully. "Aah, yes, this is excellent work. Yes, I can work with this although it often takes too much time when the running and the screaming starts."

"Aye, I know. Got it as a favor, down in th'commissary. I'd been buyin' lots o' them potions, and they thought it might be handy. Still got a few..." Golsan reaches into his bag and produces a few potions. One is labeled with a large blocky rune, the other two with pictures similar to the one on the wand.

"Usedta label all meh potions in Dwarven Runes. 'Til I woke one day on top of a gnome, very large, and hurt pretty bad. Poor lad had tried to help me out, feedin' me one of my own potions. The sun beats down across this muddy plain, a scant five miles from the walls of Absalom. Fellow Pathfinders gather on all sides, including well-traveled field agents and more permanent staff from the Grand Lodge itself. In the center of the field stands a wooden platform, raised some ten feet off the ground. The excited chatter drowns out the buzz of summer insects as the gathered adventurers speculate on what’s to come.

Diplomacy or Knowledge (Local) to hear about the latest activities. Make one check and open all appropriate spoilers for DCs you have made.

Diplomacy or Knowledge (Local) DC 12:
Something has been abuzz around the Grand Lodge the past several weeks, keeping many Society scholars and casters busy and away from the public eye. This follows a recent conflict at the Grand Lodge that the Society kept from spilling into the rest of the city.

Diplomacy or Knowledge (Local) DC 17:
Supposedly the Society has reassembled the Sky Key, a dwarven relic it started piecing back together a year ago. The Society has been “secretly” buying up large quantities of sky metal whenever it appears in the market. The Pathfinders have also been recruiting dozens of arcane spellcasters, especially evokers.

Diplomacy or Knowledge (Local) DC 22:
The Grand Lodge has been importing all kinds of experts on Dwarven artifice, which seems reasonable—but also experts on Numerian science, conjurers, mathematicians, and even historians who specialize in Absalom’s earliest history.

Diplomacy or Knowledge (Local) DC 27:
Apparently today is about a “big test,” and it sounds like the Decemvirate needs a large number of assistants to handle whatever happens next.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Knowledge (Arcana) to analyze some of the markings on the broad field. Make one check and open all appropriate spoilers for DCs you have made.

Knowledge (Arcana) DC 10:
The field has been marked out with a series of circles, which are unusual for social gatherings but standard for arcane rituals.

Knowledge (Arcana) DC 15:
The assemblage of circles suggests a conjuration ritual, but there are enough variations that even this seems unlikely.

Knowledge (Arcana) DC 20:
The markings across the field don’t align correctly for any sort of magical ritual. It seems to be something completely new.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Knowledge (History) to know a little bit about the location you have been gathered to. Make one check and open all appropriate spoilers for DCs you have made.

Knowledge (History) DC 12:
Locals call this field the Bloodwatered Meadow. Many of the invading armies that tried to conquer Absalom assembled here before being defeated.

Knowledge (History) DC 17:
One of the most famous conflicts here did not even involve Absalom’s army. The Linnorm King Yardvun Skolson clashed with the Thuvian warlord Attagesha hundreds of years ago as both attempted to besiege the city at the same time but refused to share the glory with each. They crippled each other’s forces and were forced to retreat without ever attacking Absalom.

Knowledge (History) DC 22:
An archeological excavation led by the Pathfinder Society uncovered truly ancient sites in the Bloodwatered Meadow. The exact age is unknown, but several building foundations and pieces of pottery seemed reminiscent of old Azlanti designs.

I know some of you make many of these automatically, but it's still fun to individualize it. :)

Buzzing around his companions Garam natters on apace.

Have you heard? This whole thing is like a big test site for some weird new arcane ritual. They've got half the magicians in Absalom working on it, weird numerian devices and even dwarves if you can believe that! What can dwarves know about magic, I mean, I have a distant relative who's a dwarf wizard but they aren't common. Adopted of course. I suppose they did have all the bits of the skykey and that looks like what they've gone and put together here. I wonder what it will do when they turn it on? This place is ancient, there's been loads of battles here all down the years, who knows what hoary old spirits they are going to conjure up, I hope you are all ready for incorporeals, ghosts, negative energy attacks and energy drain people?

Seemingly unaware of the effect his chatter has on younger, less experienced, agents around him he goes on at length about all the terrors of the undead and the hideous afflictions they can cripple people with.

Hassari looks for some other old partners, talking with a friendly halfling bard. Someone has to know something.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Later, hearing to Garam, Hassari seems worried.

- You know more than me, my friend. I dont like undeads. But they are no enemy for my power!!
But perhaps I have to do some purchases ...

Hassari goes and buy a falafel, some potions and scrolls.

"Dustspawn... All kinds of things happen there. I walked into a room once and felt my heart stop... No idea what happened. After they rose me, I read over the chronicles. Apparently Golsan over here got attacked by a confused barbarian along with the majority of our party.. The barbarian was the only one to survive. Since then, I spent some time with some rogues I found inbetween my adventures. Taught me how to hide and shoot, rather than just running in." She winks, as she nudges Golsan. "People don't always see me. It's quite fun."

The wand that Hassari holds catches Aru's eye as he waves it around. "That may be useful in instances where there are not things for me to hide behind. I would like to sneak up on them as much as possible. Does more damage that way."

Aru notices people gathering around and overhears the various merchants abound, reminding her she needs to purchase a few things before heading out:

40 silver arrows
20 durable arrows

While making her purchases, she overhears some people talking.

He checks his bag. "Now, as to the critters yer talkin' about..." He rattles through some potions and vials, "These fer bad touches, these fer the hammer...I don't have much, but the sword will connect most o' the time. Oh, forgot about this beaut!"

Golsan pulls a wand out of his bag. It is old, worn, and well-used. He looks up at Garam. "Ye seem to know more than I do. If ye can figure out what I can do to hit somethin' effectively, better shout it out. Now, if ye'll excuse me."

Golsan runs up to Lightfoot, "I have another request for ye. This wand is old. I'm told it has seven spells left in it of lesser restoration. I can stop by the commissary and get another one later, but this is all I have of it for now.

"I'm going to keep it on me. But I may be askin' later."

Well, if we do end up facing hideous incorporeal undead I've got an anti-incorporeal shell prepared, it will keep them away for a little while, Garam shudders at the thought. Hopefully our archer, he winks at Aru, is packing some ghost salt arrows but you may want a blanch too. Scrolls of some of the restorative spells might help too, lesser restoration, restoration, maybe a remove spell if we need it. We don't have a cleric to fall back on for those if we need them...I've got a lovely little wand of lesser resto but none of the big ones and while I know a lot of the remove spells ive not got any of them prepped. I can probably make a scroll of resto work with another waggling about and ive got one spell slot free for emergencies.

An enormously fat man swathed in hideously clashing multi coloured silks descends out of the sky like a dangerously falling barrage balloon.

Aah, there you are Garam, I nearly couldn't find you what with you being so small and shy. Stop hiding back there and introduce me to your friends!, Garam mumbles something nearly inaudible about being very busy. Oh well, I suppose things are a bit hectic at the moment, not even time for a second breakfast, nor even a small mid morning snack of black pudding, fried bread topped with curried herring and a dozen soft boiled eggs. Shaine has us all far too busy with these arrangements I cant even manage a coffee and selection of my most delicious pastries...but while the cats away as they say..., he slides a small box filled with an assortment of cream, jam and iced pastries and buns. Care for one of my extra special cherry glazed doughnuts with the strawberry filling?

Garam clears his throat loudly and gives a rather pained expression. Ahh, well, yes, I suppose you are busy. I just wanted to drop off these wands you ordered. They are quality work I see, I hope you don't need to make too much use of them.

With that the flying fat man drops off three slender wands, one of pale ash and coiling serpent patterns, one of nearly transparent crystal and the last a slender willow branch set with a perfectly smooth round sapphire.

Garam has purchased wands of investigative mind (6c), vanish (CL3, 19c) and freedom of movement (7c), all from chronicles

Overland Map

Above is the overland map of what is currently available to travel to and explore.

The Zoological Gardens is accessible to everyone. The Temple Plaza is accessible to parties that can fly. The entire party needs to fly to be able to reach the Temple Plaza as it is 400 ft. up. You can choose either place as the place you would like to go, however, I am supposed to be encouraging you to go to the Temple Plaza since you are a high level party.

Garam breaks into a wide grin, like that of an entranced child. Oh my, imagine the possibilities! We should make for the sky temple at once! He begins to rise into the air...oh, can the rest of you fly? I can dimension door three of us up there with this wand? Hmm, better make some extra preparations of my own too...

Garam starts casting a variety of spells, drawing rods and wands from his backpack as he does so.

Casting the following: Extended Heroism (220min), Extended Mirror Image (22min), See Invisibility (110min), Wand charges for Heightened Awareness (10 min), Investigative Mind (30 min), Freedom of Movement (70min)

Images: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
UMD HA: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (11) + 18 = 29

Just a note, if it is active when initiative is rolled Garam will always expend heightened awareness for the +4 bonus

Dimension Door also works.

Golsan eyes the surging crowd. "Let's be off, then! I can fly m'self, or I can tag along with the dim-door. If it's t'be used anyway, and there's space, I'll tag along. Otherwise, I'll make these boots useful, and I'll see ye all when I arrive."

I've never felt the lack of boot flight with this character (since buying the boots), but no sense wasting it if it isn't needed.

Golsan does a little figuring in his head.

"In fact, if the need presented itself, I might even be persuaded to carry someone aloft. Gear and all, you can't weigh more than 190lbs. And I ain't leavin' my stuff here."

Actually, if someone popped me with my Enlarge Person wand, I could add 120lbs to that. But then I don't think I'd make it! Half speed going up means 40ft/round, or a solid minute. Even if the passenger hopped up right after the enlarge spell, that still leaves me a round short of the 400ft mark. No room for error. That might be unwise...

I'll buy some ghost salt arrows.. Never heard of them before! Looked it up, and they're pretty nifty. She'll get 40 of them.

"I'm game for the temple, but I can't fly. Never felt a need for it. Can I tag along one of you... casty types?" She looks around, finally fixing her gaze on the witch. She gives a playful wink to him.

"Let's get this show on the road!"

OK, Goslan, why don't you fly up and carry Raven, I will dimension door everyone else up when you near the top?

Alright, seems like one charge of Wand of Dimension Door and one charge of Winged Boots will do the trick. (If you can make it to the top, that's good enough for me :p)

Let's dive right into it! ;)

You fly and teleport up to the Temple Plaza level uneventfully and begin searching around for any historical pieces you can find.

Various libraries, restaurants, and warming parlors line the plaza, where merchants sold clothing, servants, and magic. However, the Plaza seems pretty quiet at this moment in time. After some wandering around, you come to a place of interest.

Wide flagstones cover the plaza leading to a stepped pyramid. Larger-than-life statues of serpentfolk and snakes line the plaza, alongside pictograph-covered pillars and small cages filled with all manner of furry, chattering creatures.

These larger than life statues begin to move and attack with their daggers!

I placed you in some order I thought you might want to be in, although I don't know "Party Order" yet. So for now, I'm good with you starting anywhere I put the Red box.

Map can be found either under my name or at the top of the campaign. It should automatically go to the right slide, but this is slide 5.

@Lightfoot Raven & @Hassari - Since you guys haven't had a chance to post, I'll allow some long terms buffs you wanted to throw up before now. ;)

Monster Knowledge (May one Knowledge (Arcana) and open all spoilers that apply)

Knowledge (Arcana) DC 20:
These are Graven Guardians, and quite tough looking ones at that. They have minor DR bypassed by adamantine, construct traits, spell resistance, and fast healing.

Knowledge (Arcana) DC 25:
You know that they are tied to a specific deity, and use the weapon of that deity. These are using daggers, and that means they are keen and have an enhancement bonus. They also gain various abilities based on the domain profile of that deity.

Knowledge (Arcana) DC 30:
You know they can haste themselves as an SLA. Also, you know they cannot attack anyone who is openly a member of their faith until that member attacks them.

Knowledge (Arcana) DC 35:
Their lowest saves are Fort and Reflex, tied for the lowest.

Also, a Knowledge (Religion) is appropriate.

Knowledge (Religion) DC 15:
The deity these statues are dedicated to is Ydersius, the chaotic evil god of serpentfolk and poison.
