Wilhelm Orlovsky |
"Given their stated anger and animation, I'm going to guess they intended for that fight to occur." Wilhelm opines sourly as he studies Anastacia for a moment longer. "I can pray for Iomedae's healing grace in the morning and see to some of the damage if it's merely sapping your strength. That may avert any need to return to Jelenhrad. Let's find a camp for the night."
He snorts in reply to Anastacia's protestation, "I'd think its best to prevent a fall before it happens. It wouldn't do for you to survive the kobold's attack only to fall prey to a broken neck as you dive from Avalanche's back onto a rock. I won't force you to tied to the saddle, of course. Just suggest it." Wilhelm waits for Anastacia's reply before continuing, "Very good, a place to stop would be perfect, Gorruum. We'll want rotating guards and perhaps magical protection if we can have it. I wouldn't put it past the kobolds to try again while we sleep."
Ikit the White |
"Ikit has potion to fix fix...." he looks at his tools
"Ikit only can make one. And it not nice nice. But will fix fix!"
He mixes up his formula. Horrible sickly, thick green syrup looking ooze

Anastacia Stormwing |
Bluff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Bluff for drinking icky stuff with brave face.
Anastacia tries to be polite and drink the awful looking beverage as if it were a fine wine, or cordial. Unfortunately, it tastes as bad as it looks. The cleric can't help but grimace and stifle back on gag reflexes as she gulps the stuff down.
At last the beverage is downed. She turns to Ikit. "Thank you for your kindness, Master Ikit." Anastacia wipes the twin trickles of green fluid from the corners of her mouth, with the back of her hand.
Natalie Saratov |
"A good idea to find an easily defendable position for the night, I can also help with guard duty."
mdt |
Lesser Restoration, since nobody else bothered rolling it: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Ikit's elixir, while tasting truly vile and stomach churning, does seem to work, as newfound strength flows back into Anastacia's limbs. Perhaps in self defense, as her body nearly jacknifes as the vile concoction hits her stomach like a bundle of rotten cabbage.
The group continues on, back into the forested areas, and Gorrum finds a defendable position with a large rock and a tree fall, a couple of hours later, to lick their wounds.
What are you doing? Watch order?
Natalie Saratov |
"I can take one of the guard duties around sunset or dawn to better use my sharp eyes without to much light. But I will take the place in the order that you think is best Wilhelm." Natalie says while tying her horse to a tree and prepares to find her sleeping arrangements from the horseback.
Gorruum |
Once Gorruum has found a suitable campsite, he sets about looking for herb, leaves, moss and other materials to help care for Anastacia further. "If want to save magic tomorrow, Gorruum care for Ana...Anasta...cia tonight. Maybe not watch though, but Ubagub watch."
If you guys want to count on the lesser restos that's fine, but if we can hit a DC 15 for long term care, Gorruum can help her recover 3 ability score points in 8 hours or 6 in a full day. However, while I think the rules are silent on the topic, keeping watch and performing long term care may be incompatible. I can also probably provide a +2 to Perception checks while awake due to Terrain bond.
Fhârn |
"I too would prefer a watch either at dawn or twilight. Dawn would be best I think as I would need to consult my spellbook anyhow." Fhârn added to the conversation. He wished a little that Munin was at his side instead of back at the capitol; his keen eyes would have been helpful now. On the other hand - Lumnia's Wind Wall was pretty handy too.
Ikit the White |
"Ikit will help help watch. Dusk or sun up up, must study and get rest. also, look at book book" he puts his claw up in response to Fharn
Wilhelm Orlovsky |
Wilhelm watches with interest (and trepidation) as Anastacia downs the foul looking elixir. He drinks down his own bile at the stench, but nods approvingly as Anastacia seems to regain some of her color. "I think we'd be better off making use of our magic tomorrow and having you guard tonight, Gorruum. I wouldn't put it past our ambushers to attempt a night attack. For guard duty, let's stay in pairs. Natalie and I will take first watch, Gorruum and Ikit the middle watch as you can see in the darkness, and Pruett and Fhârn the early morning watch. If needed, we can rest longer, but I worry about an ambush in the early hours if wait too long. Does that seem reasonable?"
2 people watching at once. 3 shifts I think.

"Indeed. I rather not need magic at all then wait for it and pick the fight!"
The Watch!
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
"Hmm?"
Ikit the White |
WATCH : Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
Ikit being mostly nocternal, keeps his eyes open for any movements
mdt |
Ok, so, the best perception roll made was 18, by the creature with darkvision.
So, I'm averaging the kobold's stealth, and taking 10 for them. Then I'll apply the range mods, and see how close they can get before they are seen. If they can get within 60 ft, then they attack.
The kobolds are elite NPCs, because you guys are dangerous as all get out, and normal guards would get slaughtered on sight. They are level 4, and have 3 levels of Expert or Warrior or Adept and 1 level of either Rogue or Ranger or Druid. They all have stealth trained, and it's class skills for them. So their Stealth bonus is +2 (Dex) +4 (Ranks) +3 (Trained) +4 (Size) = +13, so a take 10 is 23 (Average). With the higest check being 18, the kobolds can pretty much sneak directly into the camp. But that's not their plan, so the following happens...
The 3 on watch (Pruett, Fharn, and Lumnia) are watching the shadows as best they can, when there's a sudden multiple thrumming of bows, and the distinctive clacks of cross-bows going off!
Bow: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 A
Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 D
Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 A
Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 E
Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 A
Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 E
X-Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 E
X-Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 A
X-Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 E
X-Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 A
X-Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 D
X-Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 E
Confirms
X-Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 A
X-Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 E

Horse A : 6 + 7 + 4 + 13 = 30 HP
Horse D : 9 HP
Horse E : 6 + 7 + 4 + 4 + 15 = 36 HP
Triumph and the heavy horse (D) are injured. Horse E is slaughtered before it even wakes up, sprouting multiple bolts and arrows.
Triumph has to resist poison, DC is 16 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 22, or take an additional 2d12 HP damage, and 1 Con Damage after 1 minute. Further saves are at 1 minute intervals to avoid additional con damage (but not HP damage). 1 Save resists the poison's effects. Horse D has the same issue, but it's Fort save is DC 16 only.
Init, Fharn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Init, Pruett: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Init, Kobolds: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
The horses begin screaming immediately and panicking!
If the horses are not calmed down quickly, they may trample the sleeping party members due to proximity. The horses go at the end of the round. The DC to calm the horses is 14 Handle Animal if they are unwounded, and DC 18 if they are wounded. If the animals are adjacent, you may attempt to calm down two at once by increasing the DC by 2.
Wilhelm Orlovsky |
Settled into his watch position, whittling at a stray piece of firewood with a dagger, Wilhelm doesn't hear Natalie approach. Lost in thought, he starts in surprise as she speaks from only a few feet away. He smiles, somewhat sheepishly, before saying, "I... ah... yes, I suppose it is. I hadn't really been paying attention, but the sunset over the hills here is beautiful. It's... bracing and refreshing, being out in the wilderness, but I'm sad to say I'm finding it hard to relax." Wilhelm sheathes his knife and sets aside the wood he'd been working on. "I'm also glad you had a pleasant stay. It's not so much, compared to the finery of New Stetven, but it is ours and I like it. Seeing Zatoksta grow from a sleeply little trading post into a bustling little town has made all the headaches and work well worth it."
He turns back to face the sunset, casting a sidelong glance at Natalie after a moment. Thankful for helping me... and the rest of the group. Did I imagine that pause? He replies, a hint of hesitation in his voice, "And I'm thankful for the help you've given so freely. You've been... very helpful, wonderful even. Iomedae alone knows what we'd do if I had to try to handle your work myself. The complete disintegration of our kingdom, I'd guess." Wilhelm quirks a little smile at his own self-deprecating quip, still looking sidelong at the half-elven woman.
Ambush! Which no one could have possibly predicted was coming!
Wilhelm sits bolt upright as the horses scream from seemingly directly above them. The noise, ear-splitting, dashes sleep and lingering grogginess from his mind and left him fumbling to stand and try to calm the nearest two horses. He shouts above the screaming, "To arms, we're under attack! Calm the horses and then start a defense. Fhârn, Anastacia, we'll need more light to see them where they hide!" He hauls on the reins of the nearest two horses, fearlessly dodging flying hooves as he tries to calm them.
Move action to stand, swift action to lay on hands cure fatigue if that's needed.
Fortitude Triumph: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Handle Animal (Horses C/D): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 Edit: Oi...Maybe that can be an aid? :)
Can I also handle Triumph as a free action (per the animal link ability)? Do you need another roll for that? If so, it's below.
Handle Animal (Triumph only): 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 4 = 12 Edit: guess not. An aid, maybe? Or does his intelligence help me out here. :P
mdt |
Sorry Wilhelm, only Pruett and Fharn can go this round, you're waking up. You can do what you rolled next round. However, you can this round take a free action to control Triumph. Although I think the 12 failed. Sorry. :( He's in a lot of pain right now...
Wilhelm Orlovsky |
Hopefully Triumph at least saved vs the poison, though if he has to take another round of arrows, I'm not sure that'll be too important. :)
Natalie Saratov |
That's okay I havn't had to much time either running from one job interview to the next the last couple of weeks, but that is luckily over for the next year now.
Natalie smiles at Wilhelm "I can imagine some of the things that I am doing for you, would be very troubling for you because of your paladin training and the code you have sworn to uphold as the price for your abilities. But I am sure Zatoksta would still be standing, from what I've seen you are a good ruler."
She turns to look toward the sunset one again her smile waning slowly. "Many of the spymaster things comes natural to me, as a child, I had to always sneak around the house to avoid anyone noticing me leaving the room, which I was hidden away from the outside. I had to think quick and agile and also able to speak with two tongues if I was discovered outside or stealing something to eat." It is clearly hard for her to talk about it but she wants to share it. "I was not exactly wanted in my house, a child born from a noble daugther and an elven servant, I think they were shamed about me. I know the striped me of my noble title, and I wouldn't be surprised if there is no mentioning of me in the records either since I ran away." As she finishes her story her eyes began to water a bit and she wipes them with her sleeve, "Why wont the accept me for who I am."
Fhârn |
Which sort of horse is the dead horse?
Not sure if it matters, but could help decide whom owns that horse. Hestor the Horse is a light horse for the record.
Also I'm wondering if the Combat Training would help some of the horses to be less panic-y?
Regardless, Fhârn is certainly a bit regretful of his Opposing School choice of Evocation as it includes both the Light spells as well as the staple 'Crispy Kobold' ones :P
But I am going to assume that we are not in pitch black darkness, so Fhârn can find some kobolds to engage at the very least (and Lumnia can help out too!)
Ugh! Fhârn thoughtfully notes as his peaceful guard is turned into a chaotic mess of bolts, arrows and screaming horses/paladins. Knowing he had precious few means of either illuminating the entire battlefield or calming a bunch of horses he picked the option he did indeed have some familiarity with. Gripping his poleaxe he set about to find some of those attacking kobolds. With the help of Lumnia's sight he easily found a pair - and given they had already given them a good chance to back off he had no qualms about going for broke straight away!
To Hit: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 10 + 2 = 13
Damage?: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Damn that was impressive! I'd mention to add any appropriate visual penalties, but I don't think that is needed ...
Lumnia |
Acting as a spotter for her master Lumnia zooms over one of the closest kobolds and lands behind him, both cutting off his retreat and providing some flanking! She also takes a guarded swipe at it.
To Hit: 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 2 - 4 = 26
Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Fighting Defensively for +2 AC
Edit: Ahm so she can hit can she?
Confirm?: 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 - 4 = 12
Damage extra?: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
mdt |
1, Light, 2, Heavy: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Fharn closes with a couple of kobolds, and then politely fans them with his weapon, in case they are over-heated after expending all that energy to shoot the horses.
Lumnia zooms in and makes a scratch on the kobold that Fharn is fanning.
Gorruum |
I can roll for the horses...
Heavy Horse D Fort save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Looks like slaughtered horse is a light horse. Too bad. If it was a heavy horse it would actually have a slim chance of life (at -17, Con 21). As a light horse, it is just dead (-21, Con 17)...
Ikit the White |
I need to add my list of "default spells" i have. but will do soon... i keep forgetting... most are defence and buff. but i do have a few cure recipes prepared
As the small rat wakes up, and knowing what they were preparing for, he gulps down his extract of SHIELD
+4 AC for 8min. total AC of 23

i think its just to speed things up. Incase we can act and nothing interveres with it. Most will prob change actions if things change =^^=

Pruett Lebeda |
Pruett springs into action, moving 30 ft; he draws his bow while moving.
Pruett sees a kobold, and thinks he has a clear shot. He takes aim and fires a single arrow. I drew a red line to the kobold in question.
Composite Shortbow +1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Confirm crit?
Composite Shortbow +1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 (x3 = 12 damage if the crit is confirmed.)

If it were daylight, you'd have pegged him between the yes. With the penalties for near darkness, you missed the crit but hit.
About half the kobold's withdraw into the darkness...
Our flying faerie can get one AoO as it withdraws

Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
The rest, armed with bows instead of cross-bows, draw a single arrow and fire it before turning and running as well...
Horse A : 9 + 7 = 16 HP
Horse B : 3 + 7 = 10 HP
Lumnia |
The Mephit takes a sweep at the Kobold's legs, but misses!
AoO; Trip attempt: 1d20 + 7 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 2 - 4 = 11
Note that while a Trip can be made in place of an AoO the Kobold still gets an AoO. If he is armed that is : ) [and if he goes trough Lumnia's DR she would gain some penalties to her roll!]
mdt |
The horses, driven to a panic by the sudden onslaught and smell of blood and squeals of wounded animals panic!
We'll go from A to D, with E being dead. Triumph was attacked from the open area, so he will either run toward Fharn, or in his panic, back into the ruins trampling the still prone PCs 1-3, Toward Fharn, 4, trample Wilhelm, 5, Trample Ikit/Natalie/Anastacia
1d5 ⇒ 1
Triumph screams, rears, turns and charges away as fast as he can, trampling Fharn in his frenzy and continues on, swerving to avoid the canyon wall and heading for the river at breakneck speed!
Mishap (<10% = something bad): 1d100 ⇒ 83
B was attacked from the south. He's got a giant slurk behind him. He's much more likely to run to the west, toward the other kobolds. 1-3, West, 4, Wilhelm, 5, Natalie
1d5 ⇒ 4
The horse, in a blind panic, turns away from the source of his pain and runs north, trampling Wilhelm and Gorrum!
Fharn, being on his feet, may dive out of the way of the horse and take no damage, but end up prone (not necessarily a bad thing with archers around). Wilhelm and Gorruum however are prone, and can only make a Reflex save, DC 18 (remember, prone, so no dex bonus to the save) to avoid being trampled as the horse rears up over them and tries to climb the back wall
Wilhelm: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Gorruum: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Horse C was not injured, so it has a chance to not panic due to combat training.
Will(DC 15): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Horse C avoids panicking, but whickers in fright and slams it's shoulder into B, adding to it's panic!
Horse D was hit, but has a horse next to it, and a slurk in front, so it leaps over the small stone wall to the east and begins running north!
Bad Stuff D: 1d100 ⇒ 56
Question, do you want to continue combat? THe kobolds are breaking off, and unless you chase after them in the dark, the combat is at an end...
EDIT: Forgot to roll bad stuff on B, it could break something pawing at the wall or stomping all over Wilhelm in his armor
Bad Stuff D: 1d100 ⇒ 31
mdt |
The Mephit takes a sweep at the Kobold's legs, but misses!
Note that while a Trip can be made in place of an AoO the Kobold still gets an AoO. If he is armed that is : ) [and if he goes trough Lumnia's DR she would gain some penalties to her roll!]
Let's say there's a 10% chance he has Dragonmaw, and a 2% chance he has Tail Terror and a tail blade
Maw: 1d100 ⇒ 31
Tail: 1d100 ⇒ 33
Lumnia is fortunate that the kobold in question only has a cross-bow, and thus doesn't attack her for the trip!
Gorruum |
Reflex save Gorruum no Dex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 Is that for half damage?
Woken by the horses screaming and then one trampling right over him, Gorruum gets to his feet. He looks around for any sign of the ambushers, but doesn't see any. He does however see Fharn and points at him. "Ubagub! Help Fharn!" The slurk lumbers to its feet and rumbles across the forest over to Fharn. Gorruum grabs his halberd.
Move and a move for both Gorruum and Ubagub.
mdt |
No, it's to avoid being stepped on, basically rolling frantically back and forth to not get stomped, so no damage if you make it, full damage if you don't
Need to know if the group intends to continue combat, if so, we'll roll init, and then Gorruum can join Fharn, otherwise, it happens but the kobolds are gone
Wilhelm Orlovsky |
Haven't measured it out, but just wanted to make sure you knew that Triumph has a 80 ft move speed thanks to his Horseshoes of Speed.
Reflex Save(No Dex): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Anastacia Stormwing |
Once Anastacia is awake from her dream troubled feverish sleep she quickly draws forth a quarrel for her crossbow. "Pharasma grant us your luminessence."
The bolt begins to glow brightly, providing light similar to a torch.
Casts light on cross bow bolt.
Fhârn |
"Aw-sh!" Fhârn growls as his target both easily dodges his wide sweep and Triumph comes barrelling down for him. Not wanting to injure either himself or the horse further he throws himself out of the way!
When he stumbles back to his feet he notices Uba closing in quickly. Realizing (upon hearing Gorruum) is there to help him he points towards the fleeing kobolds - "Get them!"
Prone and avoiding the hit. Spending the round getting up on his feet (move action) and then activating the flight enchantment on his armour (standard action)
Natalie Saratov |
Setting up Natalie and noticing the others chasing kobold she finds one of her potion of expeditious retreat and prepares to also chase them.
Lumnia |
Lumnia flies down to attempt to cut off the escape route for a pair of kobolds, trying to force them to take the longer route back across the small 'bridge'. When she lands she hovers a few feet and puffs herself up in an attempt to be more threatening - and with a great 'wooosh!' exhales a could of dust at the pair!
Slashing Damage, DC 15 Ref for half!: 1d4 ⇒ 2 +Sickened for 3 rounds
It is a 15' cone, so it should cover both Kobolds to the right of Lumnia
mdt |
Sorry, got slammed at work. I realize everyone is excited, but if we're doing the combat while they are running away, you need to wait for your turn to show up. Rolling initiative now. Nobody has moved yet. No spells have been cast, no special breath attacks used.
Init, Anastacia: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Init, Fharn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Init, Pruett: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Init, Wilhelm: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Init, Kobolds: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Iniit, ????: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Gorruum, Pruett, Wilhelm, ???/Ikit/Fharn, Anastacia, Natalie, Kobolds
Gorruum will need to get the horse to leave, or crawl out from under, until he's out from under the horse, Gorruum will be trampled each round. Does he still want to grab his halberd, or does he want to crawl out from under the horse? He'll still be potentially trampled this round...
Uba runs over by Fharn...
Natalie Saratov |
It's alright mdt, I just wanted to make my move ahead of time, so you didn't have to wait for me to sit up and drink a potion, if you had moved it ahead friday and saturday while I was gone.
Fhârn |
And Fhârn, not knowing what ??? is, takes his actions. Namely getting back on his feet, thanking and redirecting Uba, directing Lumnia (whom also takes the same actions as the previous post!) and then activating his Flight enchantment.
Forgot you like to re-roll the initiative, sorry!
mdt |
Well, it was really kind of necessary with everyone joining in this round. Still waiting on Gorruum's decision on whether to stay under the horse or not this round... The difference between one hoof potential or four hoof potentials.
