Cultist 5 falls to Bayards tribal skill of single combat! Cultist 6 moves in filling his place, although hesitantly! He blindly swings his blade and apparently Tiamat rewards his courage!

Marneus Callgar |
Marneus grits his teeth, focusing on his enemy. He swats their blows aside, although they seem to be far better trained than the lackeys before. Seeing an opening in Dragonclaw 1's defenses he stabs out with his long sword quickly and brings it back in behind his shield as he defends himself again.

Arcane energy sparks with a silver glow at my hands. I throw an Eldrich blast at Dragonclaw 1.

Marneus Callgar |
The bolt crashes into the back of Dragonclaw 1, knocking him off his balance. Seeing the opening Marneus swings his shield open and drives his long sword into the gut of the cultist, his dying breath spent on his steel blade.
"Go to your witch-queen, heretic!"

With Dragonclaw 2 distracted by Marneus' prowess, I move in to hurl another Eldrich Blast at him.

The Eldritch blast slams into the last Dragon claw! he falls prone to the ground, his unmoving body giving the suggestion that death has finally cast it's full grip upon him.
The cultists have finally all perished! all are dead and no one else can be seen or heard in the room where they emerged from. All is quiet in the cave, save for the heavy breathing of our adventurers as they try and catch their breath..the distinct metallic smell of blood filling their nostrils...
Marneus Callgar |
Marneus catches his breath and cleans his long sword off on one of the tunics of the cultists.
Assessing the situation he sees how injured Aren is, he grips his Golden Aquilla and holds it forward uttering a prayer to his Emperor. Slowly, some of Aren's wounds begin to close..
Casting Cure Wounds
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Aren Locke |
"Thank you ser, for your prayers and your blessings Marneus. They were very much needed."
I stand up a little more straight now that I'm not wincing so much from the pain. I give a couple of my wounds a rub as they heal to help with the pain.
"One needs to learn pretty quickly in this adventuring business, there aren't too many second chances. Still, our quest is noble, and I know that we have the gods' blessings. Bayard are you alright? Will your wounds heal?"
Cure wounds healed me to 14/18 hp
I take another moment to search the dead cultists and Dragon Claws- any intel, maps, notes, letters as to where the treasure may have been so hastily taken, and for any gold.
Marneus Callgar |
Marneus nods his head and pats Arens back.
" We can't have anyone being lost to the Shadowrealm just yet Aren.."
He pockets his share of the loot.. Someone back in Greenest could surely use a good chunk of it at least. He looks up and down the hall seeing if there's anything else of note but isn't able to find anything.
" the tunnel looked like it forked back a little way ago.. Maybe we should continue our search there?.."
Dewyn Falassion |
You continue down the hollow halls of the cavern, the distant wind still echoing from the entrance of the cave, for the most part all seems silent.
You turn the corner and enter the room cautiously, Marneus leading the pack with Bayard and Aren sticking behind (okay for marching order?) and you enter a room that is actually well furnished.
Thick carpets line the entire floor, the crinkling sound of a wick burning from two oil lamps in the room sheds enough light to see. A desk littered with parchment sits empty, a book case next to it stacked with more parchment. A small entry way bends round into a room with a bed and night stand in it. No one is in the room.
Aren Locke |
I follow Marneus' lead and begin looking through the parchment- seized by curiosity. Why was someone working down here? Why did they bother furnishing a cave? And what were they trying to learn?
I scour as many pieces of parchment that I can. I glimpse over some, and stop to entirely read those that seem interesting. I read Common, Sylvan and Draconic
No doubt, in any case, our cave reader was here recently, with the lamps still lit. I wonder though, why be here at all? Why not out with the rest of the camp?
I fumble through the desk and drawers to find any answers, or valuables .
Bayard, can you read any of the foot prints on the ground? Which creature are we dealing with? I presume you're an excellent tracker.
Dewyn Falassion |
Aren sifts through the paperwork finding a large amount of poetry about dragons..mostly poorly written to be honest. But he does come across a map of the Greenfields area showing villages the cult has apparently sacked. An arrow is sketched from the Greenfields toward the west to a town labeled Beregost on the Trade Way, where the arrow then turns north. Another paper is covered in numerals in columns and contains a note
Everything must be freighted north to Naerytar. Rezmir allowed us to keep some jewlery and stones.
Aren Locke |
There may be too many prints to be able to tell exactly what the seven hells was going on in here, but Marnues has a point- whoever was in here very likely is still in the cave with us. Good news is, our dragon poet has left a helpful clue behind. It looks like their next target may be a town called Beregost, west of here along the Trade Way. In any case, we should be on our guard, I'd hate to run into a mage, as our dragon poet could very well be- we'd be blown to ribbons in these tight caverns. Be ready for any booty traps, now that we know, they know we're here. Off we go.
I liked the last marching order, (M, B, A) and I'm all set to move down the cave in the same direction we've been going towards room 9
Dewyn Falassion |
Bayard feels his way around the room sniffing the air, trying to catch some sort of scent but finds nothing. He crouches low, letting his tracking instinct take over.. He runs his hand of the thick carpet, rolling his eyes at such luxury. As he makes his way to the back of the room he steps forward.. And feels himself beginning to fall! The carpets are laid thick over a tunnel!
Bayard must make a Dex saving throw or he'll fall!
Dewyn Falassion |
Bayard feels the carpet give and he starts to fall through! he throws his hands out to grab the ledge but is unable to grab hold. He sinks through and falls and with a slam and getting his bearings straight he realizes he hit the floor. Hard.
He sees a hallway that leads out about ten feet into a brightly lit room..he hears a few voices but can't make anything out.
A hole in the back of the room is now exposed, a ladder leading down. It's about a 30 foot drop.
Fall DMG: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5) = 12
Ouch.
Aren Locke |
Bayard! Perhaps I should have mentioned the possibility of traps sooner...
I climb down the ladder leading into the hallway and do my best to help Bayard.
...Here, drink this. I was saving it for when one of us fell down a secret hole we found underneath a rug in a cave anyway.
I hand Bayard a potion of healing I got back in Greenest.
At least we know where our dragon poet ran off to. Let's go find him. I have a couple questions to ask...
Bayard Aymon |
I regain my footing, cursing to myself as I take the potion from Aren
"that's an oddly specific potion, though very much appreciated. Lets carry this on, the sooner I can get out of this dam cave the better. Maybe best if i stay closer to the back of the party for a little bit"

Marneus climbs down the ladder with ease and helps Bayard up. Hearing the voices close by though he puts a finger to his lips and draws his long sword and shield again.
" It seems more enemies of the Emperor still lurk in this abyss.. he gets in front of the two and stands ready.
Dewyn Falassion |
The group moves down the short hallway and emerges into a well lit room, covered in shrines to Tiamat and a heavy emphasis on black dragons..at the end of the room though stands a familiar half dragon figure..
Langdedrosa holds his spear in some sort of salute and looks at Aren
"You survived! I don't know if I'm pleased or disappointed..a mix of both I think!"
Two guards standing with Langdedrosa ready themselves for combat and spread out on each side of their captain.

Don't underestimate the half dragon!
Knowing how formidable our opponent is, I begin to weave a spell to prepare us for a drawn out fight. I know that Langdedrosa is a better fighter than I, but hopefully this will even the odds.
I cast Mirror Image. Kinda of tricky rules fyi PHB pg 260
Three illusionary duplicates of myself appear around me in the space I occupy. Until the spell ends, the duplicates move with me, and mimic my actions shifting position so it's impossible to track which image is real.

To Hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

The Javelin finds its target, upon impact vines shoot out of the ground and wrap themselves around the Berserker (1) restraining him where he stands.

*The target must succeed on a Str saving throw or be restrained by the magical vines until the spell ends. While restrained by this spell the target takes 1d6 dmg at the start of each of its turns

I have come prepared for you this time Half Dragon. I swear to be a more worthy opponent.
I return Cyanwrath's salute with my own spear and get into the fight. With Langdedrosa so close, I'll have to engage in melee combat, something I had hoped to avoid...he is the fiercest opponent I've faced since my pact.
I strike out at the half dragon with all my might and slash with my spear...
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
