Spellstoring ammo and shotguns

Rules Questions

I was wondering how spellstoring ammo works with guns that use the scatter rules? For example if I am using Vampiric Touch in a spell storing round do all targets in the area get effected by the spell or just one?

Interesting question...

If the rules don't specify, I would say the character would need to specify slug or pellets on the ammo for a shotgun.

I assume we are talking modern day shotgun and not a blunderbuss which never shot slug loads?

I would say you would designate your specific target that round for the spell to effect.

If you wanted everyone in area of effect to be hit by a spell that normally isn't AOE then you would have to house rule it.

imo, it would probably be a percentage rounded down among targets with the DC of the spell rounded down as well.

So to say, againts 4 targets each dmg rolled would be 25% of intended for each target with a DC to resist 25%. Normal DC of 12 would become a DC 9.

I'd have to think on it more but I'd do this off the cuff for a player just attempting it.

I'd adjucate it like an Arcane Archer using Manyshot. Only the "primary" shot delivers the spell, so you'd have to select a primary target who gets hit with the shot AND the spell, while others just get the damage from the shot. Essentially, the spell energy takes the path of least resistance. Might not be the most creative interpretation, but it's the least headache-inducing.

If it was a single target spell, I'd say pick one of the people getting hit and apply it to them. If it was an AOE, I'd say hit them all.

Just because spell storing shotgun fireballs would be awesome.

IMHO, YMMV, check with your GM, Etc...

I think that having the spell only effect one target might be the best. While I like the idea of the damage being split, the lowered DC could result in it having no effect at all once spread over more then a couple targets.

I really would love to use AoE spells in spell storing ammo but the rules state that the stored spell must be targeted. Although in the case of multiple ray spell (which to the best of my knowledge can be stored but all rays must target the one person) I could see the rays hitting up to the number of people in the cone equal to the number of rays.

....Although I am wondering about home-brewing a version of spell storing for arrows/bolt/bullets that can hold AoE spells...

Is Spell storing on a list for ammo somewhere besides the PRD?

I don't see it on the Ranged Weapon Special Abilities Table, just the melee one. So RAW you can't have it on bows or arrows (or guns and bullets)

Oooo, good catch. I thought that was pretty powerful :P

If you're interested, I wrote up some rules for Spell Ammo a little while ago. They actually work more like scrolls, but if the original spell was a cone or line or a burst like a fireball, you can get an AoE out of it. Check it out if you want.

This also reminds me of an item the GM let another player buy in the last game I played. It was basically a magic bullet mold or something that let him give up to three bullets spell storing, but for some reason it was up to fourth level spells instead of third. Another player in the game thought it was a stupidly overpowered item, especially since the player bought it for 1000gp. Called it the Easy-Bake-Bullet.

Odd... I could have swore I read somewhere that melee abilities could be taken on ammo but I can't find any reference to it. Sorry but this whole tread maybe null and void.

To pluvia33: I will keep that in mind and see what my GM says. I have been wanting to make a Gunmage since I got into DnD/Pathfinder but I have always had difficulty (as the Gunmage in Ironkingdoms is 3.0 and no one had the book), one of the reasons I can't wait for Ultimate Combat
