Before heading off, Johnny will cast his domain longstrider on himself and Mage Armor on people who benefit from it. Is that just Neri and Lina?

In preparation for the battle to come Liisa calls upon nature to shield herself and her very skin turns rough and bark-like.

Basically: when we are close -> Liisa casts Invisibility on Liisa!

And using 2 MP to add Mythic Barkskin to herself. And if there are anyone that want a specific druid spell as a buff (that has a 10min/level duration or longer) now is the time to poke Liisa about it: P)

Johnny grabs his rods and prepares to stealth along with the 3rd group. Well, on the bright side, if this plan backfires, I'm in the group most likely to be able to get away.

As he waits for the others to be ready, he mage hands the stolen baubles back in the general direction the raccoon disappeared in, hoping to earn, if not good will, then at least a lessening of ill will from the creature.

Stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

It should be noted that if the group we're ambushing is more than 5 hours away, Johnny would hold off on his spells until we're a bit closer.

Sorry everyone, been buried. Will probably be down to a couple of posts a week through the end of July. Will hopefully get back to normal in August.

The group sneaks through the forest, with their rogue leading the way.

Map up, what are you doing? The group you've found has 7 people and 3 large wolf-hounds.

I think the order was Luna, then Neri, then Lina, then everyone else 50-100? feet behind? Unless anyone's opposed, Lina will probably sneak as close as possible, then charge the closest soldier.

My original post had asked about where the others were moving to, since only one person put on an arrow, but given the delay, I'll just move you and you can complain about where you ended up

The group is moving well, making good on closing the distance when Johnny, distracted by a pretty flower, accidentally startles some pheasants, who take to the air in a noisy burst of activity, making the bushes around him shake, and causing the patrol to take notice of the area where everyone is.

GM Stuff:

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

The three dogs, all massive black hounds move as if all one creature, each racing forward, leaping over obstacles in a charge as if they were minor inconveniences.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Two have a direct line at Lina, and take it, landing on terrain she thought was difficult, but the dogs seem to ignore it.

Bite: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 12 + 2 = 18
Bite: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 12 + 2 = 20
Trip: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27 Would have avoided, if not flat footed due to not acting yet
Trip: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24

Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 6 = 11
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17

The two who can directly charge her savage her as she stands in shocked awe at how fast they moved. Then she's looking at grass as the first one uses her leg as a chew toy, shakes her back and forth like a rag doll, and slams her into the ground!

The third moves into position to flank, as well as threaten Luna.

Sorry guys! I also just realized that I apparently had an arcanist ability that would have given me a +5 on stealth. :/

Grimacing Johnny dashes forward. Or rather, takes a few steps forward as he carefully keeps the river (and some of his allies) between himself and his foes. Hoping to keep the rest of the patrol from mauling the prone Lina, he focuses on his inner reservoir of power. "Venit enim ad alligandos aranea inimicis meis."

A silvery spider crawls down his robe and Johnny resists the urge to shudder as it crawls in to his hand before shooting out across the river at the remains of the patrol. Gossamer strands spread out from the point of impact, wrapping themselves around all but two of the human members of the pack and quickly turning in to thick, strong strands. Hopefully that will keep at least some of them off of Lina.

Licking his dry lips, Johnny then nervously looks about, expecting to see another patrol show up at any moment.

Slight move. Then 1 MP to cast web as indicated on the map. DC 18 Reflex save.

I've added an AoO tab to my byline because I realize how ubiquitous those things are and how easy they are to forget. That said: moving past Lina's 10' reach without provoking an AoO, at half-speed, takes a DC 28 acrobatics check (or DC 38 at full speed, though it's 23/33 if she's flat-footed). Potentially these guys have some special ways to avoid AoOs; otherwise, Combat Reflexes triggers even while flat-footed.

So, unless GM disagrees:

As the dogs charge at and past Lina, she wheels about, attempting to clothesline the first, hit the second with a surprise extended kick, and hit the third across the legs in a debilitating fashion.

Trip 1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Trip 2: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Trip 3: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29

If any of the dogs still get through, Absorb Blow triggers, reducing damage by 10 and granting DR 1/epic + resist all energy 5 for the rest of the battle.

Will: 1d20 ⇒ 20 Needless to say, saved vs sleep

Neri's estoc flares as it hits, but the dogs bodies seem to resist the flame somehow, as if their very nature laughed at fire.

Lina, how are you summoning daggers? You can summon your mythic whip as a swift action, but the daggers have to be drawn

As you can all tell, I'm on the road again and having trouble posting during the day. Open area at work, so can't even get on during breaks or lunch. Too many people watching over my shoulder.

I think you mean me? Yea i forgot i couldn't summon daggers so either use the move to draw and she only gets on attack or say she drew them when moving in mb

Up to you Luna, and yes, forgot that. You could have drawn one while moving earlier, and one this round. I would assume you would not walk around with both out while stealthing up, as you would need at least one free hand to move branches etc to avoid making noise. So you can get the first attack then and ready the other blade.

Luna stabs her dagger into the dog, her knife hits a weak spot, but the skin and hair are very tough, and it takes more effort to push the blade in than she expected.

Reflex: 5d20 ⇒ (7, 18, 19, 11, 19) = 74 4 successes.

Reflex, leaving: 1d20 ⇒ 4

Escape Artist: 1d20 ⇒ 19 Success

Escape Artist: 1d20 ⇒ 4 Fail
Escape Artist: 1d20 ⇒ 3 Fail

Four of the men leave the web without incident, three having been missed and being close enough to the edge to leave without getting re-caught, and the fourth getting stuck along the way, but managing to pull himself free and still move.

The fifth struggles uselessly in the webbing, trying to free himself.

Two of the men move into position and begin firing arrows...

2d20 ⇒ (8, 17) = 25

One of the arrows goes wide, the other slams into Neri's back!

Damage: 1d8 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 5 + (3, 6) = 19

Technically Lina stabs after the bad guys shoot arrows

Liisa up, Daichi just moves, yes?

Daichi finishes crossing the stream and moves up closer to the fighting, summoning his blades (if he doesn't have them already, in which case he just draws them).

Don't forget me! Absorb Blow already burned this round's immediate action, so nothing special.

Lina stands up (provoking AoOs from her AC-4, so vs AC 19) and quickdraws one of her fans (-1 Ki), attacking the prone dog.

Fan Power Attack vs prone: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 11 - 2 = 26
Damage (special weapon): 1d4 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 4 = 11

Sorry, keep mixing up Luna and Lina for some reason

Bite, AoO: 2d20 ⇒ (18, 17) = 35 Both hit

Damage: 4d6 + 12 ⇒ (2, 3, 6, 3) + 12 = 26

Grab: 2d20 ⇒ (17, 5) = 22 One success, one fail

Everyone, please make sure your CMD is in your spoiler tags, so I can find it easy, thanks

Lina bounces up to hit the dog with her fan, and both dogs rip into her again, but to her surprise, the massive jaws of the left hand hound lock down on her leg as he shakes her entire body.

Lina is grappled at this point.

Lina still manages to drive her fan into the prone hound, but it's a near thing as the head shaking hound nearly causes her to miss...

OY! That's impressive!

Hounds, Lina (by dint of dex), Patrol, Everyone else

Acrobatics: 1d20 ⇒ 19

The prone hound stands up as a swiftly swift action, being a quadruped.

The hound that has Lina grappled in his jaws grinds the jaws down, like a vice closing tighter on her leg, blood spurting...

Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13

One hound attacks Neri, and the other bites at Lina!

Attack, Lina: 1d20 ⇒ 4 alphabetic order, as usual
Attack, Neri: 1d20 ⇒ 15

Lina's being caught in the jaws of one hound, and flanked by both, make it just that too much difficult to avoid the attack of the flanking hound, who sinks his fangs into her other leg!

Neri, meanwhile, guesses wrong on which hound is focused on him, and ends up being ripped into from behind, just below the arrow in his back!

Damage, Lina: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13
Damage, Neri: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14

Trip, Lina: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Trip, Neri: 1d20 ⇒ 5

Despite everything, both manage to stay on their feet!

Mechanical stuff/questions:
I believe my grappled, flanked AC is 19? (-2, -2). And DR 1/epic I assume reduces damage by 3, let me know if it doesn't.

No check from the grappler to maintain? He'd make it at +5, but her CMD vs grapple is still 30, which may or may not be hard for these guys.

In any case, this gets more complicated. The first wolf AoO would deal 11 damage—with DR 1/epic and Absorb Blow 10 (which Lina can use again as it takes her next turn's swift, i.e. this one), it completely absorbs the attack, which means that grab doesn't trigger. I'll let you decide whether the first grab roll or second grab roll applies to the second grapple attempt (and thus whether she's grappled by the second wolf attempt.

If she's not grappled, she'll burn 1 MP and Amazing Initiative to withdraw just outside of wolf AoO range (and into the creek if necessary), then cast Mirror Image.

Mirror Images: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

If she is grappled, she'll Amazing Initiative to break free (so that she can make AoOs again), then Leg Sweep Flurry the nearby wolves, starting with the one that only she threatens.

Break Grapple: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31

Flurry 1 (Unarmed Power Attack): 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 12 - 2 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 4 = 16
Leg Sweep Trip Attempt (only if the above attack hits): 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 2 - 2 = 21

Flurry 2 (Fan): 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 11 - 2 = 22
Damage: 1d4 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 4 = 13

Lina:

For tripping or grabbing, you don't have to do damage, you have to make a successful attack. Not that it matters, DR/EPIC doesn't affect their bites, which ignore the DR. You are correct however that I need to make a check to maintain, then again, if he fails, he gets to flank attack and again and make *another* trip or grapple check. Note that withdraw only negates one five foot square, not more than one, so withdrawing should provoke again. Remember, anything that reduces AC reduces CMD, so grapple condition still reduces, but you have a bonus that helps.

Maintain Grapple: 1d20 ⇒ 2 Fail to maintain grapple

Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 15 Attack hits

Grapple: 1d20 ⇒ 1 So not grappled, but the damage still applied from earlier.

Yes, you managed to reduce to 1 though, so lucked out. Note, the amazing initiative doesn't negate AoO's, and withdraw only works for one five foot square. That means no matter where you run, you'll take two AoO Do you still want to withdraw and take your chances?
