Sterling:

Sterling doesn't find any books, or anything even vaguely paper like, in the house. There is one small painting that's rather crude, it shows two parents with a small girl. It's hard to tell, given it's old, and painted on what looks like leather rather than canvas. But it looks like two parents and their child standing in front of the house you're in. All 3 have blemishes on their foreheads. The painting seems old, as paint is flaking off in places.

@Kong - There is a well off to the north. One of those things they show in movies, with a little roof and a hand crank and a bucket.

Sterling looks at the painting and starts to shake a little. He reaches behind him to steady himself and finds the bed. He sits down hard. He is quiet for a long time. His eyes fill with sorrow. How long have you been harvesting?

He shakes his head as despair starts to well within him. None have escaped have they?

The hopelessness engulfs him, and he begins to silently cry.

Sterling can hear his father's voice Quit crying like a little girl, you useless lump. Be a man and do something

Lumpy shocks himself out of the darkness. No!No! They are not gods. They can be defeated. They can be bent to your will. Sterling wipes his eyes, and grits his teeth. He stands and takes some bedding downstairs. He covers the boy and the woman then heads outside

Sterling emerges from the house. He calls over Luna, Harry and Kong. There are two more inside. It'll be dark in a few hours. The ground will cool and leech the body heat from the fallen villagers. They will die of hypothermia before morning if we don't get them off the ground. That Large wooden building could be made into a makeshift triage. We'll need to search every building, find every person, and retrieve as many blankets and furs as we can. We must work quickly while we still have the light.

Sterling moves to the large building to investigate.

It was clear that Neri was working very hard to keep his emotions in check. Everything had gone badly since they'd left their little sanctuary, and it was wearing him down, mentally.

"The ones with the fever just need their thirsts quenched, but yes. Getting them off the ground is a good idea. I didn't know that about heat-leeching. I'll try to change as many brands as I can as soon as we get them situated. I'm a lot weaker than I used to be." he stopped for a moment and looked down, the lengthened hair covering his face, "But I can help move them. Luna and Harry seem to have the best eyes."

With that, Neri took off the breastplate and the things he was carrying, and started moving bodies towards the building Sterling had indicated.

Something odd, now that you've mentioned the spell, comes to you. You didn't actually see Neri's spell doing anything. The magic that removed the glyph seemed to come from the mark on his hand, not the spell he cast.

Harry watches all the runic business with a bemused expression. Something about Neri's change in tune creeped Sterling out.

He had talked for Kong, when Sterling asked him a direct question about the brands. He talked about his Id claiming rights over the branded 'property'. Only moments before, he was pleading and begging for help to save them; he now wants no one to help.

It was like a child trying to use manipulation to hide ulterior motives. A shiver of disgust rolls down his spine.

Sterling was right that it was clear his attitude had shifted. But it didn't appear to be any form of manipulation unless you were specifically looking for it, and then you'd be incorrect. Neri hadn't lied to anyone and didn't intend to. He seemed tired more than anything.

Kong attempts to change the sigil, and while there is something there, and on the second one it flickers, he fails to do so. Blood drips from his sinus's from the attempt.

Sterling's attempt is rebuffed by a sharp pain in his hand, which his armor seems to protect him from.

Sterling:

The larger building is a tannery. It reeks of urine, and there are several large vats full of reeking liquid with animal hides floating in them. There are also hundreds of cages all containing small fat guinea pig looking animals. Probably a thousand or so. The cages all seem to be made of primitive wire, and have no solid floors. Under each row of cages are clay plates that funnel urine into vats. There's a steady stream filling up a large vat that appears half-full of skins. Water trickles down into bowls in the cages.

There are three people, each with a weapon (although two are just large hooked poles, improvised weapons). The third is an old axe with rust on it. It appears they were about to leave the building when they collapsed.

Sterling holds his nose and breaths through his mouth. His eyes water from the onslaught of the waste filled vats. Sterling was impressed. The workspace had implemented some industrial techniques.

He pauses and examines the wire closely. It wasn't pretty, but it was manufactured. Which means infrastructure. Infrastructure that does not exist here. That means trade. The coins on the priest hinted it, but this confirmed it. A trade route exists, and it hits this town.

Sterling returns from the tannery and says, There are three in here. Yeah, this would be the worst place to put a triage. Luna's plan to put them in their homes would be the best way.

Sterling moves to the next home in a counter-clockwise pattern to the first he entered.

I've added numbers to the houses.

Everyone begins gathering up the bodies. Moving them into the houses. I assume you're using the ones Sterling has already checked?

Those without the triple scythe sigil seem to be resting comfortably. However, those with the original sigil seem to be getting worse. The old woman in particular has begun to shiver and cough violently. The young boy Sterling found is also beginning to turn blue.

Sterling, I think you're referring to building 3

Sterling:

Building 3 is another private house, it appears to be empty, so the occupants are likely outside. It appears that several people live here, as there are two interior bedrooms along with a larger common area that looks like a combination living room and workshop. There are tools on the benches that look to be used for making jewelry or small metal objects. There are spools of wire, and some of the small metal cages you saw earlier. Additionally, there's a selection of clockwork, cases of it. There are also wooden clocks, dozens, stacked up in one room, along with parts to make more. They are all exactly the same, and all of them have the three-scythe symbol on them.

As the other start bringing in the heretics into the house. Plenty of room in this house.

When he is informed of the others dying. He faces a hard decision. He is loathe to brand them like cattle, but a dying child makes his priciples seem moot. He grits his teeth at the thought. He applies his mark on the dying child. He would need to save the mother, assuming they would ever wake up.

He would hate to think he would have to watch the child die in three days from dehydration.

He moves to the mother and tries the same with her.

He tries once more with her assuming someone cast Resistance, she is marked
