The procession continues on, making it's way past the clock shop.

As it gets closer, the boys notice that there is one woman with regal wear striding down the street with a dozen followers in less regal but similar robes around her. Several of the lesser robes hold up crosses with banners hanging from them, with the sigil of the God of War on it.

About a 60 ft away, one of the lesser robes holds up his hand, a holy symbol in his hands, and a blast of energy radiates out over the crowd, causing a murmer of thanks as the energy rolls over the crowd. Several people with scrapes or bruises sigh as those fade away in the light of the red wave. The energy wave stops about halfway between the boys and the lesser robes.

"Hmm, you all fancy some food? I find I'm a bit peckish. At least, I think it's a tavern. Shall we check?" Johnny keeps his voice down as he speaks, attempting to smoothly enter the building with the confused rooster. Well, it definitely looks like a tavern of sorts, and since we're new in town, we can hardly be expected to know what all the places are at least.

We are definitely totally not avoiding the priests.

As the priestly pack passed the establishment Liisa had to resist the urge to sigh in relief. And to immediately head out again - now that would look suspicious. Instead she continued to look around in the shop admiring the beautiful devices and hoping that the other team also managed to avoid lightning bolts from the sky. On the bright side - I'm sure we would hear that! Stopping infront of a clock with particularly impressive woodwork Liisa turned to the store owner and asked. "How much are they? I really do like this one. Would look good back home, if a bit out of place ..."

Now to see if Lina punches me for suggesting purchasing non essential stuff :P Also - I wonder if it effects how much material we can pull out of the volcano ...

Sorry everyone, this wasn't updating on my campaign page.

"That one is 253 gold. It is accurate to within one heartbeat per week, meaning you should only have to adjust it once per year, if you keep the weights drawn and the pendulum free of entanglements. The wood is a combination of Hickory and Ash, with ivory numbers and brass trim, hands, and inner workings. The weights are lead filled brass, which is why they can be so small yet so heavy. The motif is cranes and raccoons, two well known natural but cute and adorable, natural thieves." She dimples. "At least, they are cute from a distance. I don't suggest getting close to living ones, they actually are quite mean spirited in their natural habitat. Much better to enjoy them and their antics from a distance."

---------------------------------------------

Stepping into the rooster establishment, it quickly becomes obvious the rooster is a Drunk Rooster. The place is obviously a bar, with tables, chairs, and a bar, with three giant kegs the size of an elephant each behind the bar, and a few dozen bottles of various colored liquors behind the bar proper on shelves.

There are a dozen people in the bar, as well as a bartender (A chubby man with a full beard and a pot belly), and what looks like a serving wench (a woman in a very low cut top showing off lots of cleavage) who is leaning against the bar, looking bored. Half the patrons are at the long bar, leaving only one empty bar stool. The rest are scattered at the dozen tables, leaving two tables completely free, both in the center of the bar. The wench perks up when the door opens, and obviously waits for the group to take a seat.

"Mm..." Liisa bit her lip when the price was mentioned casting a quick glance at Lina before returning to admire the piece. Even if they wouldn't buy it they had some time to kill - and getting thrown out of the store would probably attract the exact sort of attention they were trying to avoid. "Raccoons eh. Not the most common motif, but I guess you are right in their cuteness. And viciousness." I wonder how Luna likes this clock? And her little friend ...

The woman nods. "It was a commission originally, but the person who commissioned it never returned from a sea trip to pay the other half of the price. That's why it's going so cheap. He had... odd tastes... I guess one would say. But gold is gold. And coons and cranes are cute.. from a distance." She grins again. "If you like it that much, I'll give you a discount, say 200 gold. But only if you buy it before I close for the day."

The woman answers Lina first. "Well, third row down, port side, number 3 has Stun Eels for a motif. I thought that would do well with ship captains. Second row, fourth down, starboard has Ship Fish, which are good omens for ships. The third one in the port display case at the front of the shop has larks and blue jays. The one directly above my head with the ivory hands has thirty three cats worked into it's design, a most auspicious number."

She turns back to Liisa. "Not at all, he never took it with him on the ocean, so it couldn't have picked up anything from the Maelstrom. Nor did he even see it. The clock can be set to ring it's chime on the hour, by the hour, or not at all, depending on how noisy you like it."

Once the other group settles down at a table, the waitress comes over. "Afternoon sirs, we have ale on tap." She motions to the big kegs. "If you prefer something stronger, we have Rum and Port. If you prefer something inbetween, we have red, white, and green wine. If you like exotic, we got blueberry wine and Silkie Wine."

He wasn't much of a wine person, but Johnny had to admit that he was curious about this "green" wine. And the more exotic wines. But seeing that they didn't have their treasurer around, he thought it best to stick with something simple.

If we reasonably have enough money to buy a round
"I think we'll just start with a round of ale."

If we might not have enough money for a round
"How much is the ale?"

The girl dimples. "Well, there's two stories on the raccoons. The first one involves a bandit and the daughter of a priest with a secret love they could never admit to. The second story is about a young girl who used to live in the country with her father, a clock maker, who used to make him angry by feeding the local 'bandits' table scraps." She covers her mouth to hide a smile. "I'll let you guess which one is real and which one is used to sell clocks."

If we have pocket change, then it sounds like we should easily have enough for a round since there's only 3 or 4 of us (I don't remember which group Luna was in)

"I think for now, let's just start with the ale and see where things go from there, eh?" The question is mostly directed at the rest of his group as Johnny looks around for nods or complaints. Barring any objections, Johnny reaches into a small pouch to pull out the required coin.

Sometime after the waitress has gone.
Johnny leans in towards his companions to speak in hushed tones. "So, big city life. Now that we're here, any ideas about what we should see? Probably at least the dock district. Maybe look for some of Luna's ilk?"

Also, not sure how we're sitting, but someone facing the entrance should keep an eye out to see if they can tell what's going on in the street.

The waitress nods. "Sure hon." She takes the copper coins, looks it over, then smiles and heads back to get the ales.

She returns a minute later with three flagons full to the brim with a dark liquid with foam on it, room temperature and smelling of hops and wheat. The liquid is cloudy under the foam.

"So, what do ya think about it?" she nodded at Lina and glanced at the clock.

Did we at least wait a decent amount of time for the priest to pass? I don't want to make it obvious we're rushing out right after they pass by.

1 copper seems like a measly tip. But it's also a 33% tip, which is quite generous by many standards. So...I dunno. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As the group finishes up, and leaves a copper tip, the waitress comes over, gathers up the mugs, and slips the copper into a pouch on her hip. She doesn't seem to be overly suspicious or upset. "Drop in again dears." She admonishes, before moving off to take another order from someone else.

Stepping down the street, they meet the other group exiting the clock store. Behind them, several streets away, the procession continues.

"So... things to do. Find a place to stay, check in with your clockmaker. What was so special about the clock, anyway?" Neri asks as he starts to walk deeper into town. "It's easy to meet back up if we just know where to do it. After that, even if we don't set up staying there, we can go find some food and drink, then go look into boats if that's still the plan?"

"It looked really sweet and had a bunch of raccoons on it. And the shopkeep seemed nice." Liisa smiles faintly. "Yeah, your plan sounds good."

The group talks as they walk, and as they walk, they hit a central square.

Well, square is the wrong word, it's more of a circle. a vast 300 ft circle with an imposing tower in the middle. On the tower are 50 ft tall symbols, and there are obvious priests at each door, praying.

To the north, the large open 'square' has a main road that looks like it leads to the port area. To the east, a large lane that looks like it leads deeper into the city. The west as well has a large lane that leads deeper to the east. To the south, the main road leads back to the main gate, which the group entered through.

The 'square' is fairly crowded with people heading in every direction, dodging each other and the occasional cart or carriage.

"Uhum." Liisa murmurs and stares at the tower before quickly averting her gaze. Now that was certainly not ominous at all! "Eh, continue north to the port?" she suggested to her companions as she tried to figure out what the symbols meant. Glyphs for the gods maybe?

Upon seeing the tower Kong nods and says "Yes continue to the north. I wonder if there are some alleys that would get us around here without entering the circle. I guess we stay to the edge if not."

Seeing at least one member of the group staring at the tower, Johnny does his best not to stare at it. "Yup, sounds right. Continue on to the docks."

"In a circle." Liisa nods.

The group skirts the edges of the central plaza. Fortunately, there's enough traffic in the area that they can skirt the area without being obvious about it. The longer they are in teh plaza however, the more the hair on the back of their necks stands up, as if something was looking at them but not quite seeing them.

1d20 ⇒ 15

Finally though, they manage to get around and continue on north toward the docks. The squat tower is rapidly left behind. Well, semi-rapidly, the occassional change of street due to a procession walking down the street healing people has to be avoided.

The way I'm going to do the random channeling is that I'm going to roll a 1d20 randomly at times, and if it rolls up a 1, you encounter a priest doing a channel. Some of the priests are in disguise, others are part of processions. You'll get a chance to see the priest (perception check), and if you do, you have a chance to get out of range. If not, you have to start making will saves

The port itself is a large U shaped indentation into the city, with docks along the inside of the U. A massive lighthouse, powered by magic apparently, glows blue at the farthest point along the shore.

Dozens and dozens of ships are in the port, in the water, or leaving port at any given time.

The docks are busy, with sailors yelling racously as they head between ships, taverns, inns, and brothels. Brothel workers ply their trade from the balconies over looking the streets, while the working girls on the street use alley way entrances to call out to passing sailors.

"Personally, I'd like to find out if booking travel is a thing that's done here and if so, to where. Maybe see if we can't get a sailor or two drunk to regale us with tales of their travels. Looking for a harbormaster of some sort might be the quickest way to find out what ships might be appropriate to inquire about, assuming we have specific questions to ask. Another option is to just walk about making note of the biggest ships, as my guess is they travel the furthest. We can then ask about people who serve those ships to chat up. Any thoughts?" Johnny's eyes sweep back and forth around the surrounding area, trying to keep a look out both for more priests and pickpockets.

Do we know what city we are in and where we are in the world?

Kong looks over the harbor searching for certain ships. "I wonder if there are any here from the other side. Their ships probably look more Asian would be my guess. Do you see any? That might be the best place to start."
