For Neri, I thought the two best matches were Alventhin and Kei Won.

For Luna, the one she got.

For Liisa, Kei Won and Sinothia

For Kong, Alventhin and Satrinius

For Johnny, Satrinius was the best fit

One of the problems i had was people didn't make a lot of variety on their base characters, everyone was pretty middle of the road and overlapped a lot.

The last time I ran this, I had :

A triple A baseball slugger
A burglar
A gang banger
A paranoid survivalist nut
A soldier
A construction worker

Yes and no.

I had about the same number of gods, and they were fairly similar, but it was in D&D 3.5, not PF, so the extra D&D classes (scout, warlock, etc) got replaced with Pathfinder Base Classes, which required some tweaking of the gods.

Random clockmaker woman - just a few fun pokes or actual plot relevance?

Also I'll have to look up those two that matched Liisa. Though I must say Sel worked out decently at least : )

I hadn't decided yet on the clock maker. When I run sandbox games, I like to throw out a dozen threads, and see which ones you tug on, which ones you run with, and which ones you ignore.

Some things I have set up ahead of time, but if you run with a thread I throw out that's not formed, I will see if I can tie it into the plot, or if I come up with an idea for a sub plot. I hadn't had time to figure out if I wanted to pull that in or not.

Anything you guys would particularly like to play :

1) Star Trek (FASA d100 version)
2) Star Wars (d20 Revised, not Saga)
3) Traveller (Classic)
4) BESM (Never ran it before, but looks easy)
5) Mechwarrior/Battletech
6) Something Else (GURPS?)

Feeling like I need a switch from PF. :)

Mkay! Out of curiosity, what did Sel think of Liisa? From Liisa's end things seemed to be going decently well - but not perfectly so.

@Games - Those all seem quite interesting, but I don't think I've played any of them.

Star Wars and Trek are both fun IPs that I'd love to play around with. I've played a bit of that new-ish Star Wars rpg that came out a few years ago, but nothing other then that.

Less familiar with Traveller. I've played a few times (and even a few times with you :P) and while I do love the tables and character gen stuff I always feel a bit lost here since I do not have any idea about the setting and it sometimes feels a bit too free and open. Fascinating, but I get lost so easily.

I've only ever had the privilege of battle-meching as a PC game which was very fun! I'm not sure how this rpg is, but since it is an rpg and you are willing to run it I'm going to assume that it is good ^^ And who can say no to big stompy robots :P

No real thoughts on any of the other games : )

Sel thought Liisa had way too many hang ups about sexual partners and the requirements for them to be human. Otherwise, she was pleasantly surprised with how well Liisa turned out.

@Traveller - There's tons of traveller resources on line to get an idea about the setting. Basically, it's far future and humans are one of the primary races. The game usually revolves around a space trader group in a ship (Ala FireFly, which drew a lot of inspiration if my information is correct).

The RPG game is not too bad. It's an old FASA game. The mech rules are pretty good.

Well that's nice to hear at least! Oh and Liisa's little lizard (Altoka was it? 85% sure!). What's his story? Poor little thing didn't get so much time to shine, mostly due to Liisas carefulness.

Oh, speaking of Traveller. Anyone tried Starfinder? A friend is going to run the AP and I looked over the srd and it felt quite a bit like the d20 version of Traveller - a bit less complex of course but still!

@Old FASA game - How easy would it be to find the books? (This goes for the other ones too really.) If they are before the age of pdf-online stores, things might get tough.

You could likely find the PDFs online for Star Trek. For BattleTech/MW you can find those at DriveThruRPG as BattleTech Classic and MechWarrior Classic (Fanpro). Same rules, just different name on the pack now.

As to the lizard, he would have gotten more abilities as you went up in mythic rank, spying, 'fake dying' (broken lizard tail), the ability to camouflage Liisa, or even temporarily grow in size to be a mount.

Star Trek, as an IP is interesting, but I'm not sure I'd be extremely interested in exploring strange new worlds in a federation uniform. The 'd100' is also inherently intimidating. :P

Star wars is similar. I really liked Kotor, so I'm sure I could get into a tabletop variety somewhat, but I'm not enough of a fan to feel like I wouldn't just sort of be lost in the universe. I only really know the basics, and can't remember which is alderaan and which is tattooine without looking them up. I think the latter is wookies..? Maybe..?

Looking at Traveler, I saw a guy die twice in character creation in a video. Are all characters going to be extremely random in that system, as it looks they will be?

Big Eyes Small Mouth is definitely the genre I'm most interested in playing and a much simpler system than any of the others (I would assume). As such, it definitely has my vote. I really like xd6 games, as well. I liked the idea of Dungeon World, and my current favorite game on the forums is my Magical Girl game, which uses 2d6 for everything. (On that note, I've actually thought about trying to adjust Pathfinder to a 3d6 system) It also looks the most open, though, so it depends on what particular genre you were wanting to emulate on how into it I'd be.

Mechwarrior/Battletech always struck me as something that seemed like it would be very complex and probably that you'd want to use those cool tactical gaming boards at the local game store to play. That may be completely off-base, though.

Gurps explodes my mind with 'possibilities'. It's one of those games that just with a glance I was able to tell that it was really easy to make a useless character or a god with the same amount of investment. This, just like Big Eyes Small Mouth is more defined by what you want to play than anything else, to me.

Traveler can be somewhat random for character creation, but it's not completely random. The thing is, you may not end up where you thought you'd be. A single bad roll can put you on a different path, and your doctor ends up a wasteland wanderer with survival skills. By the same token, your hot shot pilot can end up inducted into the special forces as an espionage agent with a cybernetic eye. Other times, you get exactly what you were aiming for.

As to d100 being 'intimidating' it shouldn't be at all.

Computer Op, +10 bonus: 1d100 - 10 ⇒ (100) - 10 = 90 Fail, over skill
Str Check, no mods: 1d100 ⇒ 87 Fail, over stat
Phaser shot, -10 penalty for range: 1d100 + 10 ⇒ (80) + 10 = 90 Fail, over skill
Medicine roll, -10 field surgery on a Vulcan: 1d100 + 10 ⇒ (26) + 10 = 36 Succeed, skill or under

Based on the stuff you've got up, it looks like you're most interested in running a scifi game in whichever system you play in. Do you have a general subgenre you're interested in running moreso than others?

Scariest thing about d100 is the variation though!

Systems running on multiple d6 tend to have a nicer curve of expected results : )

Though I must say I think I agree with the battletech complexity issue. I'm not sure how the game actually runs, but handling multiple weapon systems and damage zones and positioning for multiple players do sound like it might use up a lot of energy...

Not really Neri, just that I don't have a lot of fantasy based rules sets, most of my RP stuff runs more toward sci fi. So that's what is in my list of things I can run.

As to the battletech and complexity, running it via PBP is actually easier than in person, people have more time to think about what they want to do, without slowing everyone else down.

Mythic Rank III | hp 58/58 | AC 20+2/12/19+2 | DR 6/Magic | Fort +6 Ref +4 Will +12 | Perception +15 | Sense Motive +15 | Spellcraft +6 Status: Mythic Endure Elements, Mythic Barkskin (CL 6)

True. Similarly Pokémon Tabletop United runs better as a pbp where you can have an excel sheet do all the stat calculations and stuff ...

Though my second worry is that it might simply take a lot of time to resolve a combat? I remember form the PC games that, given somewhat equivalent mechs, they can take quite a pounding. On the other hand I suppose you aren't actually going to get into that many fights - so maybe quality over quantity?

If you're in enough combats that it's slowing the game down, you're more likely to need to roll up a new character, so yeah, I'd expect combats to be relatively far between. When they do come along, you're probably looking at a month or so to resolve them (about like HERO system).

Mythic Rank III | hp 58/58 | AC 20+2/12/19+2 | DR 6/Magic | Fort +6 Ref +4 Will +12 | Perception +15 | Sense Motive +15 | Spellcraft +6 Status: Mythic Endure Elements, Mythic Barkskin (CL 6)

Mmh. Since I don't have any clue except from the PC and boardgames - what do you do in battletech when you are not well battling with tech :P?

Politics? Lots of them? (I'm guessing since the setting, at a glance, seems quite volatile with all these factions and infighting and stuff!)

About the same as you'd do in any space RP. Getting into trouble on stations, in town, working as mercs, etc. It kind of depends on what the group wants to do.

If the group wants to be an armed merchant ship crew, then they'd likely have one or two light mechs for defense on planet and a small cargo ship.

If the group wants to be a mercenary group, they'd likely have a couple of mechs, a helicopter or tank, and pay for drop ships to take them from place to place.

Had you expected us to metagame the choices of gems at all?

Had you expected for us to try to swap gems to connect more shrines, like we'd thought of doing?

Was the burned down tavern something to do with us directly?

1) I had expected people to discuss the gems once they figured out that they could pull them off to open the door, and try to figure out why some seemed more aligned with other people. Instead, everyone just grabbed one. Last time I ran this game, people tried to figure out the gems based on the reliefs for an entire game session (4+ hours)

2) No, I had expected everyone to get Leadership eventually and retrieve additional Elder Souls from the Elder World. I was going to allow the leadership feat to be bought at 7, 14, and level 21, to ensure all the new gods got brought in.

3) It was supposed to be there as your first interaction with the local religion to show how ruthless they were, burning down the inn with the entire family in it, kids and all. It was supposed to be to set the level of 'evil' in the enemy god group.

Yeah, I'd figured out a lot of them by glancing and felt cheaty (my brain makes up rules that don't exist), and I felt it was intended to random roll it, somewhat. Hence Neri impulsively grabbing his.

I had plans for that first leadership. Was there a way to bring alventhin back?

Alrighty!

Onwards to Traveler talk.

I'm considering making a robot and 'belonging' to one of the other players. If you're both still interested, would it fit for you to own a robot? If so... What is my purpose..?

I'd take it as Lessah being busy again. She's not posting anywhere. Same with Trawets.

Yeah, sadly. Also about two weeks ago or so I accepted an invitation to play Starfinder which at the time seemed to fit into my pbp schedule really neatly.

Now though things are looking a bit tighter and I'm really thinking if I should (re)join another game. I sort of had this one pegged at a nice post every weekend or so (approximatively) but a fresh new one will probably move at a faster pace. I wouldn't want to drag down the pace - especially during the critical start-up period.

I'm going to think about this a bit more, see if I can reasonably expect to give two start-ups the attention they deserve, and come back to you during the weekend. (This week is busy, but next week *shouldn't* be as hectic. Though the other game is supposed to start about then ...)

However! No matter what I'll make sure to stop by the recruitment thread and watch peoples careers hilariously spiral out of control :P

---

@Owned robot - It's a cool concept, but I'm not sure how fun it will be to pull off. From what I've observed characters that have strong ties to eachother and depend on eachothers input can suffer from serious slowdown since if either part has a busy week the other part also suffers.

For example, if neri-bot asks his owner for orders or just a clarification and neri-bot owner has a rough week you might not get a reply in a timely fashion. While you could simply ignore your owner that do take away part of the reason to have one in the first place - unless you are planning a robot uprising which I guess is quite cool in the first place :P

Just my immediate thoughts on that topic!

I'm thinking of making a prospector out to stuff his/her pockets full of shiny gems for the Traveller game, so I suppose some sort of heavy duty robot would appropriate if I had one. Or maybe some specialist analysis/scanner bot? Or just something scavenged and cheap for an extra set of manipulation tools on the frontier ...

Your concept has a lot of possibilities and fun hooks, if you dodge that timing pitfall . )

So on and so forth. :)

I can't read all 300 posts so I read the first page and skipped to the end. I've made my rolls in the recruitment. My character idea was for a Noble Hunter.

Rolls:

2d6: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
2d6: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
2d6: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10
2d6: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10
2d6: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
2d6: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10

With those roles though I could use a robot for the muscle I'm going to lack. I'm thinking of:
STR 3
END 3
DEX 10
INT 7

If you still want to try being the robot of another character Neri we may be able to work out something. If not that's cool. I may have to go for the snobbish book type and switch dex and int. Maybe a medical doctor or a natural philosopher with a PhD.

Depending on which way our paths go, it may fit rather well for my little skitterer to be your homie. But it's not likely to call anyone its master. :)

Would everyone please keep an eye on the submissions, and let me know if you see anything off. Also let me know via PM about say, Thursday or Friday which ones you like the best. Lessah, even if you don't join, letting me know which ones you like the best will help as well.

If you don't mind, rank all the submissions from Favorite to least favorite, so I get some feedback on them? I'll be keeping people on reserve for when we lose players as we usually do.

Sure thing, Kitty.

I can take a look yeah :)

Though I do think I will pass on the actual playing, doesn't look like it will work at the moments sadly :/

If you want a game that's going once or twice a week, I have my psionics game that's like 4-5 years old that does about 1-3 posts a week.

Reminder, please get me your preferences in the next day or two? Assume everyone on the complete or 'finalizing' status can be selected from. I'd like to hit the ground running.

I'm working on it, but the incomplete submissions are a pain in the butt. I'm going to leave those out for now, simply because the headache of trying to piece together what they haven't bothered to piece together on their own would require tons of note-taking.

Yep, I understand that. That's why I'm not going to bother if it's not in the correct format. Too much of a pain to go through.
