You're good, kitty of many faces.
One thing I've been thinking about as a player, is a simple question:
Do you feel we are being overly cautious in this world, or not cautious enough, overall?
I feel like the amount of posts being lowered on my end is mostly because I don't want to kill us all (or another small village...)

Just bumping this question as it appears to have been skipped over in your lack of time! :)
Also... I'm really thinking of swapping back to the paste...

I thought I responded.
Maybe it got eaten.
I think you are being overly cautious when you shouldn't be, and not nearly cautious enough when you should be. I think it's more a case of choosing the wrong things to be cautious about.

Sorry everyone, new contract, and I have to drive 4 hours to reach it Monday and 4 hours to get home Friday. Was sick Thursday, so all in all, sucky week. Should get better next week, and the week after. Got a hotel room for the whole month now, so I can drive in on Sunday nights and back on Saturday mornings, meaning I'll get more rest and not have any more 14 hour days. Had 33 hours Wednesday evening before getting sick.
Lina the Unbroken |
So I'll be away at a conference for the rest of this week... but also my keyboard is broken so odds of typing are low. Will try to post if I can, but feel free to bot me.
Lina the Unbroken |
Update: computer has been broken for a week, power button is now malfunctioning such that the computer shuts down after 30 seconds of use. I'll be offline for a few more days, unless I can sneak in PbP time at work... Bot me as necessary...
mdt |

mdt |
*sigh*

Sometimes life gives you lemons. By the sound of it life figured out it could get bulk discount!
Hopefully things turn out better soon : )
Liisa Nemi Lampinen |
I'm gonna give people a chance to look at the post before jumping to the next one though Liisa is thinking of heading towards that clock shop.
But because I wanna do something with this I'm gonna make a quick pro and con list!
Stay)
Con - If we are randomly selected we are sol (persumably)
Pro - Least suspicious
Law Office)
Con - Not really a place to loiter in...
Pro - Uhh... Not at the streets at least?
Clockshop)
Con - Clocks are probably a bit expensice. Not sure if we are the right clientele. The priestess though ...
Pro - It is an actual shop and we have actual money to make an purchase. Also off the streets.
Star n Dog
Con - No idea what it is. Probably an tavern? Maybe? But it could be something else and we'll be totally lost...
Pro - We get to see what it is! :D
Lina the Unbroken |
Remember our ulterior motives here. We want to:
A) Gain a foothold for Luna's rumorfinding people
B) Look for shrines in or near the town (here, a run-down apartment building or wagon train is probably our best bet)
C) Potentially book passage/steal a ship to either Rantherius (for the volcano) or Silkland (for the temples).
Lina the Unbroken |
True. But basically: we don't need to stay here very long
Neri Voler |
Purely OOC, Star and Dog. If it's a tavern, it's the most likely place for her to go into to flash anyway... but if she doesn't, it's the most likely place for it to not be considered odd to go.
Even if she does pray, we'll likely still get a saving throw. Don't forget you can surge if necessary.
Neri Voler |
Last time a god got invoked by a priest in our presence, we got a save and Johnny failed iirc.
If it were a bug zapper, I doubt the guards would be scrutinizing reactions, and would instead just follow the lightning bolts. :)
Lina the Unbroken |
Yes. However, the second we get noticed, it's probably a failure on this mission (in a big city, there will likely be more priests, and we'll need to flee *fast*). So I'd say whatever keeps us the farthest away from prayers is probably a necessity.
Neri Voler |
I just had a realization that the Dog and Star could be like... a hunting lodge-shrine-thing for the fire-god-with-hounds. Seems unlikely, but eh.
Did we ever notice any symbols around Luna's apartment, in particular, did Luna? Thieves Cant symbology could help us out a lot here, and if they're still around, something like that would probably be in effect... and a lifesaver... and a helpful direction to tug us in. :)
Neri Voler |
Do you feel that I overstepped with my prompt about there maybe being signs Luna could recognize?
Or was it strictly the statement that referred to the probably-a-tavern sign?
Liisa Nemi Lampinen |
@Two Groups - Maybe we should get that Bonded Mind feat? That's basically line-of-sight telepathy which is nice and useful for things like this :P
@Star-n-Dog - Interesting theory! It's a long shot but why not?
Also if you got saves vs chuch-zapping then things aren't half as bad if we screw up : )
Lina the Unbroken |
If it's a shrine, then going there is *bad*. It's not about the lightning damage; it's about the attention that lightning strikes draw.
Johnny Slade |
I should probably mention that I'm back, but since I'm in the second group I suppose I shouldn't say anything about what group 1 should do. I will say that I did indeed get a will save vs the priest's magic, which I failed even after surging.
Neri Voler |
Paging Lina, Liisa, or Luna to pick a door, any door. :)
Neri Voler |
Yup. It's a shame when we have to hit them with sticks to get them to. :P
mdt |
I usually throw dice.
And I keep a pair of 2" square stainless steel custom made six sided dice on the table in front of me at games. Each weighs a pound.
Amazing how those focus people...
Neri Voler |
I usually just spin the dice to show that I am teh bored. When they hear the dice clacking against things, they usually look up from their phones. :)
Neri Voler |
Heh. I just realized, with Johnny's domain including Rune, he's more likely to have the hobo marks in his knowledge base. :P
Liisa Nemi Lampinen |
Johnny's domain? Isn't it yours that include it? I seem to recall Neri's friend being the trouble whenever Liisa tried to use it :P
Lina the Unbroken |
Yeah, Rune is definitely Neri.
Neri Voler |
Johnny also has Rune. :) I went back and found the ones posted here; those that advanced sooner, I don't have the lists for. He's got like Travel, Rune, Good and two others I can't remember.
Did I already mention my new theory on our shrines, that we're thinking too small? Neri's Shrine is a volcanic fort that's been at war (and winning the siege) since ostensibly time immemorial, Liisa's is a gigantic forest with built in maze effects that couldn't be taken over but instead had to be salted and bound in literal cold iron chains and spikes.
I feel like we'll know it when we see most of the shrines, probably. But I'm still curious about that stupid burned down tavern-inn-thing...
Luna Rook |
I'm sorry I haven't posted in a long time. Real life drama, classes, and net issues have made it difficult. I'm working to organize everything and hope to get a decent posted rate going for all my games. If I need to be removed or botted I understand
Johnny Slade |
Hobo marks? Did I miss something? You also now have me thinking my shrine is going to be a giant hobo camp. Though I suppose hobo info gatherers sounds more like Luna's gem than mine.
But if we're thinking big, my guess for Kong would be some kind of mass graveyard with a Greek underworld vibe and perpetual fog. A large mountaintop shrine where everybody just beats the crap out of visitors all day long comes to mind for Lina. For both Luna and me, I feel like a type of person comes to mind much more readily than some sort of location. Like, I would think maybe an underground thieves' network/tunnel system for Luna (though I suppose a large tunnel network for traveling is a place).
Although hmmm, as ruler of travel and trade, I think my location is...Amazon! :-P
Lina the Unbroken |
I don't think there's only one shrine. I think they'll all be as bound and destroyed as Liisa's mean, and fighting to restore themselves, sure, but... Neri's is going to be literally a volcano, maybe any volcano. Lina's is going to be a monastery complex.
But we're in a big city right now. And Luna might actually have a building around here, somewhere.
Neri Voler |
Yeah. I definitely figure we'll find Luna's in this town.
But Hobo Marks may be the wrong word. The idea is that vagabonds leave marks behind to show the quality of a hiding place, or the kindness of a stranger. They show safety and danger. And a Travel God with the Rune Domain probably does that. Otherwise... street signs. ugh.
Though I suppose it would also fit for maps and the like ;)
Neri Voler |
Yeah, that's generally why I share my thoughts so often. Even if I'm wrong, the GM tends to not get to have group think on their side for world building and such. :)
But, if I'm wrong, that's your own fault for not leading me enoguh and also for not having the best ideas, like I do. :)
Neri Voler |
This made me think of Kong.
Liisa Nemi Lampinen |
They do call it Danse Macabre for a reason :P
Also! Happy midsummer!
For those unaware yesterday was midsummer eve and Lina was culturally obliged to drink schnapps, complain about the rain and do silly dances. Sooooo... Let's all imagine that ^^
Kong, K. |
To all my games:
My wife had an emergency c-section at 6 am EST this morning at 35 weeks and 45 years old. Robbie is 3 lb 11 oz and in the NICU. Both are ok.
I don't know what kind of access to here I will have for the next while. I don't have a smart phone or laptop currently. Please bot me as needed and if you feel the need to remove me, I won't be offended. Things are going to be hectic the next few weeks but I do intend to return to my games.
Thank you.
L.R. Stewart
Neri Voler |
Sorry to hear everything's going so rough. Hopefully everything stays stable for you.
Neri Voler |
Ha. It'd be funny to find that Lunas people aren't thieves and vagabonds, but instead skilled, consumate professionals with occasionally barbed tongues... like the one present. :p
Liisa Nemi Lampinen |
That would be something : )
---
One thing I'm not sure of though, that feels quite relevant to the situation, is how much money we actually do have. I mean it doesn't matter how much we try to puppy-eye Lina if she actually can't cash out :P
Also!
I'm a bit interested in seeing how non-magical non-combat stuff interacts with Neri's magical volcano/our wealth by level and this is a cool thingy to try that with :P
