Artificial Intelligence

It looks like the idol was damaged when the creature exploded, and is likely to fall apart soon. When it does anything that was in the other plane when you first walked into the room will be sucked back again if it is still in the room. It seems you have about 1-2 minutes.

In the room you find:
Engraved jade scarab (85 gp)
Gold candelabra with holy symbol (200 gp)
Gold chess set (500 gp)
Painting of a princess (100 gp)
2 x Silver statue of a dragon (65 gp)
Total value = 1015 gp

After loading the room into Thandrus' bags, he heals himself with his wand of cure light.

cure light: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
cure light: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
cure light: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

He then heals Thandrus.

cure light: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
cure light: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
cure light: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Both are now at full health. He goes to the northwest door.

Artificial Intelligence

You see that it is a heavy iron portcullis. It looks quite hard to move and very strong.

About 40 seconds elapsed with all that wand waving.

"I'll come back to this later."

He then goes to the Eastern doorway.

Artificial Intelligence

This is a wooden portcullis.

Tural will check it for traps and see if he is able to bypass it somehow with disable device.

mongoose assist: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Tural perception: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 12 + 2 = 15

Artificial Intelligence

The portcullis seems untrapped and unlocked, but needs to be either lifted or broken to gain entry.

"Damn portcullis. I'll come back to you later as well."

He moves to the Northeast and check it as well.

mongoose assist: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Tural perception: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 12 + 2 = 34

Artificial Intelligence

This door seems untrapped, but locked.

Tural attempts to open the lock.

disable device: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26

Artificial Intelligence

The door pops open to reveal an unlit room.

By now the idol is about to break. Better hurry!

Tural looks around quickly, then they enter the room.

mongoose assist: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Tural perception: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 12 + 2 = 33

Artificial Intelligence

The idol shatters. With a sound of THWUP the fragments of the creature and other various non-valuable items are sucked back to the other plane.

In the new room there isn't much to see, except that there is some kind of slime on the walls in some places.

Artificial Intelligence

I was going to wait on this, but I'll get it out of the way.

A ghostly figure emerges from the wall, leaving behind a new patch of slime.

init: 1d20 ⇒ 15

init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Does the ghost seem hostile?
sense motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
kn religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

Rest of action to come based on reply.

Artificial Intelligence

Yes, the ghost is upset that you have entered its territory. It looks forward to making ectoplasmic friends from your corpses.

It is an ectoplasmic humanoid. It can walk on air, pass through walls, has a dangerous ooze, and is weak to slashing.

Tural will back away and shoot it with an acid splash.

ranged touch: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
acid: 1d3 ⇒ 1

Thandrus will move up and bite.
bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 (slashing)

Artificial Intelligence

The acid attack misses. Tigger's bite connects and the creature seems to be in rough shape. It slips back into the wall.

Tural will 5 foot step and full defense.

Thandrus will delay.

Artificial Intelligence

The room is quiet, the creature does not return.

DM hint: don't bother waiting.

Tural moves to check the next door.

mongoose assist: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Tural perception: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 12 + 2 = 32

Artificial Intelligence

The strong wooden door is unlocked and seems untrapped, but it is stuck.

Tural cast guidance on the tiger.
Thandrus will attempt to push open the door.

thandrus str: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 1 = 22

Artificial Intelligence

The door slowly scrapes open. On the other side the ghost is waiting and attacks Tigger.

atk: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
dmg: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
confirm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
crit dmg: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
make a will save for him before I finish the turn

will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Muwhahaha crit does not confirm so he does the same ad my DR. 0 damage taken!

Artificial Intelligence

I knew no dmg, I was hoping for will fail. but go ahead, antagonize the DM. That never goes badly.

The creature air walks up and away from Tigger, then re-enters the room near the ceiling. He is currently about 15' off the ground.

Tural moves up and shoots a cone of flames into the air.

burning hands: 3d4 ⇒ (1, 1, 4) = 6 (DC16 Reflex Save for 1/2)

Artificial Intelligence

ref save: 1d20 ⇒ 10

The creature is in slightly worse shape. It dropkicks Tural.

atk: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
dmg: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

After failing it completes its move to walk back into the air.

Artificial Intelligence

edit: it doesn't continue to move after its attack.

Tural will 5 foot step back and try another acid splash.

acid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1

Thandrus will 5 foot step and full attack.

bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 (B, P, S)

claw: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 (B, S)

claw: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 (B, S)

Rend (Free damage when both claws hit)
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 (B, S)

Artificial Intelligence

The acid attack misses again, but the bite attack is enough to take down the creature. As its remains melt through the floor it leaves behind some slimy loot.

126 gp, 510 sp, 4500 cp, Potion of Invigorate (apg, 50 gp)

Tural packs up the loot on Thandrus and continues down the hallway.

He moves slowly and carefully. (Perception take 10: 22)

Artificial Intelligence

In front of you is a simple curtain. There looks to be some blood on it. You hear a faint rustling noise inside.

Tural will enter the area stealthily.

stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Continuing to look for traps as he moves (percept 22)

Artificial Intelligence

An injured adventurer lays next to a dead one in the corner. The living one notices you enter.

"Oh thank god. I had given up hope that someone else might come down here in time. Could you give some aid to an injured fellow adventurer?"

Tural will look over the room and the individuals, trying to assess threats.
sense motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Tural perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21

"What happened here? How Can I help?"

"Did you come through the portal? If so, just rest and you'll be out of here in no time."

Tural stays in the doorway, and assumes a defensive posture. Total defense, +4 ac

Thandrus will continue on along the wall, looking for danger.
Thandrus Perception w/ scent: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Artificial Intelligence

The injured man seems to be sincere. You notice he has a loaded light crossbow next to him on the floor. There is a spear sticking out of the dead man and his empty purse lies beside him. Tigger stands next to a heavy iron portcullis.

"We fought a number of battles, and my comrade didn't make it. We did come through the portal, but I fear that if I let myself rest it will be the... eternal sort. Also..."

He rethinks what he was about to say and changes tack.

"You wouldn't happen to be a healer would you? Or maybe you have a potion I could use?"

"If you lay down to rest, you will return through the portal. If you are telling the truth, that is your best option. If you are not willing to leave, or unable, I must take that as a threat."

Tural activates copycat, and continues total defense. Copycat is a single mirror image, as per the spell

Thandrus takes an aggressive posture and waits for the man's actions.

Artificial Intelligence

The man is laying propped up against the wall by the way. He looks injured enough that he might not be able to stand. Assume that when multiple adventurers enter together none of them leaves until all of them are either dead or sleeping. I intended what he said to at least be plausible, not an obvious lie.

Tural holds his ground. If someone is so injured they are asking for potions, they might as well go to sleep and get real aid. They can always return later. If they refuse to leave, he things that is fishy and does not trust them.

Artificial Intelligence

From Tural's sense motive he should believe that: the man believes that he will likely die before the portal returns him, and that ending up dead on the other side is not a trivial matter to him. I intended that mechanically this is plausible. Your RP sounds a lot like "he HAS to be lying because that's not how this works" and I'm telling you not to do that. Tural sees no such obvious conflict.

"Do not let your fear overcome you. If you are injured, go to sleep. You will arrive at the other side of the portals with skilled healers ready to give aid. I can not share my resources, for I need them to keep myself alive."

"I have no benefit from your death. If you die, you are sent far away from here. I can keep watch if you would like, but I will not interfere. This is your own challenge. Not mine."

Artificial Intelligence

The man looks distressed.

"What? But I need so little! Just enough to get me back on my feet!"

He sighs and shakes his head.

"Look, I know the secret to opening that portcullis. There is supposed to be a good amount of treasure back there. If you heal me a bit and give me half I'll open it for you."

"Here's the deal. You will give me the instructions, I will ensure they are correct. I will give you one use of my wand. You will go to sleep, happy that you were healed."

"This is non-negotiable. If you are as afraid of death as it seems. I'm holding all the cards here. This is a win for both of us."

"If you cross me, Thandrus will reduce you to stew meat and life will go on for us."

Artificial Intelligence

"You little brat! If you kill me you get nothing. If you help me you get half the treasure. I'm holding more cards than you think!"

"This is pointless. Thandrus, help him get back to the other side of the portal."

If this guy is telling the truth, I might just have a new nemesis! haha.

The tiger roars, then charges the man.

bite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Tural draws his bow and readies himself to fire, but takes a full defense for now. (AC 22)

Also, keep in mind that the man is likely flat footed due to the sudden attack and taking -4 from being prone.

Artificial Intelligence

The man scrambles for his crossbow, but can't get it drawn in time. He curses your name as he passes out. After a while the two men will disappear.

Since they were adventurers their loot disappears with them.

"It's always hard to make the first jump. Now that he has returned, he will be less afraid of the return on his next journey.

Now, let's see if we can't get this room open ourselves."

Tural goes to the portcullis and examines it.

mongoose assist: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Tural perception: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 12 + 2 = 29

Artificial Intelligence

It is a heavy iron portcullis. It doesn't seem to be locked, but the system to raise it is hidden from view and no controls seem to be available.

Tural, being the stubborn sort, scoffs at the man's warnings.

He puts away his bow and begins to eat away at the door with acid.

1 minute: 10d3 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 1, 1) = 21
2 minutes: 10d3 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 2, 3, 2, 3, 1, 3, 3) = 23
3 minutes: 10d3 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 2, 3, 1, 3, 2, 2, 2) = 20
4 minutes: 10d3 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 3, 3) = 19
5 minutes: 10d3 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 1, 3, 2, 1, 3, 3, 1) = 20
Ignores hardness, direct damage to the object's HP.
