Kalistrine |
"Kalistrine is the only name I got." she says. "I work with the caravans, and these Goblins made a mess of mine, so I'm out to put an end to the the threat."
She takes a deep draught from the whiskey, and it goes to her cheeks, lighting them up a bright pink. Her scars become more obvious as she flushes.
Jorland The Shuhite |
I look at Kalistrine. "Yer cheeks er turning a lovely shade of red ya know." I then look back to Walthus. "I sure hope so. I'd love ta introduce his pretty face ta me axe."
Walthus Proudstump aka GMEDWIN |
"Mine too!"
You all sleep in Proudstump's guest rooms for the evening on beds and wake to the smell of eggs, cilantro and sausage frying from the kitchen. Proudstump looks much better than he did the day before and you can see that twinkle in the eye that halflings get when they are excited. In the corner you that he has his rucksack and his weapons ready to go. Once everyone sits down, he serves them their breakfast.
[b] "Get a good night's rest?"[b] he asks everyone.
Lina |
Lina feels her way to the table in the morning, as it as always takes awhile to become accustomed to her diminished sight. Fortunately the smells from the kitchen aid her greatly in finding her way, and she sits down into the first chair she stumbles into. "Thank you, you're a wonderful host."
Liu Na |
"I slept well, thank you," Liu Na replies to Walthus' question as she follows Lina into the kitchen. "And breakfast smells wonderful, by the way."
After breakfast Liu Na examines her wound from the previous day. "Looks like my goblin scratch is healing well, Lina. No sign of infection." Liu Na heals 1 hp with the good night's rest, so she is now at 9/10 hp.
Kalistrine |
Kalistrine looks at Jorland in alarm, then covers her cheeks with her hands for a moment, before blushing even harder. She spends the rest of the meal with her head down and rushes off to bed with only curt replies to any inquiries.
The next morning she rises, having slept in her leather and thoughtlessly leaving muddy boot prints on the bed spread. When she comes downstairs her hair is even more a tangle than the day before, and she tugs at it abstently as she makes her way too the table and begins to devour her breakfast and then goes for seconds. Her reply to Walthus' inquiry is none too polite.
Walthus Proudstump aka GMEDWIN |
During breakfast, Walthus pipes up, "Ok, well as I see it we have two places to go, we can go to the Goblin camp or see Old Megus. Megus is a really strange lady but she knows the marsh much better than me and may know where the Soggy River Monster is, plus she has a rowboat that she could let us borrow which would make traipsin through the marsh that much quicker."
irrelevant of where you want to go, at the beginning it starts in the same direction. Just rp where you want to go first.
After breakfast, everyone rucks up and gets ready for the journey. The group leaves after Walthus feeds his snakes and starts off in the same direction you came from. Walthus leads from the front because he knows the terrain better. He takes the journey seriously and has his longbow knocked and ready for action.
Please give me a marching order or should I assume its the same as before?
You make much better time than before because Walthus doesn't stop as much trying to get his bearings and his general familiarity with the terrain. A little bit after you cross the first bridge from before he stops the group with a clenched fist in the air.
He whispers, "There is a carcass of an alligator just of the trail to the right. It may be the doing of the Soggy River Monster."
Jorland The Shuhite |
I straighten up and nod. "Onward to the goblins first. Day be more threatinin dan the Megus for now. We talk wit her afta we take out our first objective."
On the trail Proudstump brings up the carcass comment.
"Goblins were an are still er top priority. However, dis monster is also a menace. If it ain't to far an to old, I say we check on da gater an see if dere any clues about da monster or any sight we shud at least check it out. How far be this carcass and how long ago was it killed. Afta dat I say we head to da goblins an eliminate dis threat. Once dere is no more threat den we see about visitin dis Megus lady and any other neat parts of dis swamp. Always wanted a good reason ta explore dis place."
Kalistrine |
Kalistrine follows Walthus, and like the day before she moves worth her shield strapped on and her other hand free to grab whatever may be needed. At the question as to where to go first, she agrees with Jorland. "We can play messenger later. There's some killing to do." she says with a vicious grin. "How about the rest of you?" she asks.
At the site of the crocodile, she readies herself.

Takeshi Kaijitsu |
- Male human (Tien) Magus (Kensai) 4
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Takeshi shrugs, "I don't know anything about a 'Soggy River Monster', other than the name not being particularly monstrous. We're here to kill the goblin tribes that are, once again, becoming more of a menace. If we run into this 'monster' then sure, we kill it. As for Megus, I guess that would depend on where she's holed up. If it's on the way to the Goblins, or only slightly off track, we can swing by. Who knows, she might have knowledge of the goblins and maybe even this monster."
GMEDWIN |
Perception:
DC 15
The alligator looks like it has been killed within the hour and is definitely fresh.
DC20
Method of death was from a three bladed implement and upon closer examination the beast has bite marks consistant with a best with a double jaw.
DC for Track is 15, which is a survival check, feel free to try.
Liu Na |
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Liu Na brings up the rear guard as she did yesterday, traveling warily with an arrow nocked to the string of her shortbow. Noting the freshness of the alligator carcass she looks about carefully, trying to find the tracks of the beast's slayer.
DC 15 Survival check to Track: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Jorland The Shuhite |
Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
I examine the body also. "Still fresh. Killed with a double Jaw no less." I proceed to harvest and salt some of the meat for later use.
Once I finish I attempt to look for any tracks.
Track:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Lina |
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
survival: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Lina's hairs stand on end at the mention of the alligator. "Soggy River M, Monster?" As before, she stays toward the middle of the group and clutches her starknife nervously.
Jorland The Shuhite |
I examine the tracks. "Hmmm. Gonna let ye all vote on it. Should we hunt dis thing an kill it? Then I cud make a nice dish out of it's hide. Otherwise we push on to greenskins camp an hope we bump inta dis ting along da way. What say you? I'm fer huntin it."
Liu Na |
"I'm not sure, but I think Kalistrine and I might've caught a glimpse of the Soggy River Monster shortly after we entered the marsh yesterday," Liu Na replies, glancing toward the large woman for confirmation. "While I'm all for exterminating the goblins, I'm not comfortable with the thought that whatever killed the alligator might also prey on us. We know it was here very recently, and we've found its tracks - I say we track it down and kill it."
Kalistrine |
"Alright, we do it." Kalistrine says. "You're right Liu Na, we did see something. I don't know what, but it might have got the drop on us. It's fast and stealthy, so keep your eyes peeled and your weapons at the ready."
GMEDWIN |
Your party pushes through the heavy underbrush following the track and after about half an hour you see a ten foot high mound of branches, logs, and reeds lies amid the trees here, nestled in a narrow, muddy clearing. Flies buzz and swarm around the foul-smelling mound of rotting vegetation.
PLease give me a Knoledge nature, Survival or Perception check DC15
Kalistrine |
"Good eye, Liu." Kalistrine whispers then draws her axe. "Any sign of the beast?" She eyes the mound, and then looks at the others. "If the beast ain't here, do we wait? And if it won't come out, I say we burn it out. I got torches."
Jorland The Shuhite |
I move towards the mound. I put away my Javelin and ready to pull whatever weapon I may need. I have my shield up and I move into the hole in the mound ready to meet whatever, guard up. Looking for any foe.
Perception:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Kalistrine |
"Let me get a torch then. No sense crawling into the beast's lair when we can smoke it out." Kalistrine says as she sets her axe down and unslings her pack, fetching a torch and flint and steel from her belt pouch. She then looks up at the others with a grin. "If any of you got a flask of oil, even better."
Walthus Proudstump aka GMEDWIN |
Walthus steps up and says, "I have an idea, you can burn the mound and I prepare my oil flask, when I hear noise from inside I throw it in, or when you give me the signal."
I have Walthus mention this for three reasons, one. He is a third level ranger and pretty smart, two, I get to explore a couple rules of the game which I never seen before and three, I think it would be awesome if it works. Of course the party can choose something else to do
Jorland The Shuhite |
I look at the others as they suggest alternatives. I nod and pull away from the hole. "Right. Sounds like a good plan. I be ready fer it when it comes out." I stand aside allowing the others to carry out their plan. I have my hand hovering over my weapon hilts waiting to see which I will need.
Kalistrine |
Kalistrine's grin is positively demonic. "I like the way you think." she says. She lights her torch and approaches the mound, flaming brand held before her. "Cover me." she whispers as she creeps up to it and tries to set the branches alight. She stays, touching the torch to a few places until there are at least a couple spots of fire kindled, and then moves back.
GMEDWIN |
While Kalistrine sets about setting the mound ablaze, Proudstump readies his oil flask next to the entrance of the mound.
GM Roll
The fire gets cooking, the mound starts to pour out heaps of smoke.
Smoke damage 1d6 ⇒ 1
Fire damage 1d6 ⇒ 5
Once the flames physically touch the monster it wakes up and coughs and growls. Upon hearing the coughs, Proudstump hucks his oil flask into the hole. "Fire in the hole"
Attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 damage 1d6 ⇒ 3
The monster is engulfed in flames runs out of the whole in the mound as fast as it can, blinded.
Can everybody give me Knowledge Nature or religion checks, please? Everyone gets an AOO.
Jorland The Shuhite |
As I see the burning monstrosity come racing out of the mound I pull my axe Free action before it passes through my square and swing as it passes.
Attack:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 For:1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
But the sight of the burning monster causes me to hesitate a bit on my swing and my blade misses widely as the creature scurries past.

This is what he looks like but afire...

Liu na waits in reserve. The monster is then hit by Lina with a large gash from her star knife. Jorland's axe grazed flame but not connecting with the beast.
Walthus attacks with his handaxe 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 and misses because his switch to the axe wasn't fast enough to connect before the beast continued past him.
Kalistrine |
Kalistrine cackles and moves to flank the beast, swinging her torch at it.
