Sharna nods wordlessly at Jory and Volkard's words. The beastmen were only defending what they saw as theirs, after all.

"Ra-- go aloft, and see that the way ahead is clear for us," she whispers to her feathered friend, who rips away from the magically-fast sled (or normal sled pulled by magically fast dogs, whatever) to soar the currents above the path and keep an eye out for danger.

(If the sleds remain within 30' of my colleagues, and if it doesn't take my move action to guide the sled, then Sharna will also cackle maniacally to extend Fortune on Jory and Merisiel. But if it's not really feasible as we're careening down a mountain slope, that makes perfect sense. :P )

The party continues down the mountain path, their dog sleds keeping a fast pace, albeit not as fast as their initial speed. Haste has worn off in the time between scenes

As the sleds descend The Eye the party heads towards The Wings. The Wings is a small valley between two small hills where the path is narrow and turning is nearly impossible. Descending the first half of The Wings will speed your sled and make maneuvering riskier.

Ra keeps over-watch, and screeches as you approach the end of The Eye.

Sharna:
Ra tells you that there are men on four sleds waiting for you to enter The Wings.

You all note that the riders of the sled are wearing bronze Apsis Consortium badges! You also note the presence of some bumps in the snow..

Handle Animal!:

Sharna: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

As the party begins to enter The Wings, a chorus of yowlig dogs echoes from atop the surrounding hills. Suddenly, from out of the snow-covered brush shoot four teams of dogsleds.

Ready for the encounter, Jory greatly slows his dogsled, giving Markavious a chance to cast a spell without falling from the sled. An acidball flies forth from Markavious hand, and strikes the area to the north, enveloping two of the sleds in a sickly blast. When it clears, the dogs' remains are drug behind the sled as it's momentum carries it south across the path. It comes to a sudden stop when striking a tree, and the remains of the passengers are tossed into the brush.

Merisiel's sled passes by the ambush. She tosses a dagger into the rider of the nearest musher, and it lands squarely in his chest. Returning to the reins, she manages to control the dogs.

Sharna and Tyrion's sled slows down, the witch cackling while handling the reins. Tyrion lets loose with his Blistering Invective, causing the enemies on the two remaining sleds to catch on fire.

Volkard, while there is a sled behind him, can cast grease at an angle as to catch one of the remaining two sleds without hindering his allies. The sleds are large and not currently adjacent, so I make the assumption you'll hit one of them. His grease covers the sled closest to the party, and both its occupants begin to slide around. The musher loses control of his sled! The occupants cling onto their sled, hands grasping at whatever hold they can get manage. They attempt to right themselves, but are unable to.

The other sled approaches Merisiel and Volkard, it's passenger wearing a one-eyed mask.

The lead dog begins to yip and acts erratically. Merisiel, for the next four rounds, any maneuver that isn't "mush" takes a -4 penalty.

Jory and Merisiel note hidden obstacles in their path, and are able to avoid some small trees the Apsis have laid down to make trouble for your sleds. Sharna's sled rides over one, it's rails breaking through it, causing the sled to jump. Sharna, on your turn, if your sled doesn't slow down a step, you will lose control.

The sleds speed out of The Wings and into The Talons, the momentum of your sleds aiding your dogs in climbing a frozen hill in front of you.

As it stands, two of the enemy sleds are down. Jory/Markavious and the out-of-control-sled are a 'step' back behind Merisiel/Volkard, Sharna/Tyrion, and Musher 4/Ephys.

The sled is going faster and faster! Sharna spares half a glance for the masked figure...

...but doesn't immediately recognize anything of significance, and anyway, she has a sled to worry about. "Slow down, beasts," she mutters, while Ra lands on the top of her head and shrieks something similar to the dogs in bird-screech.

"Ra! Get off my head!"

From here out, I'll just say the cackling is done, because I find it hard to believe that Sharna has the oxygen to cackle during a hurtling downhill race. :P Doesn't look like people have been using the Fortune anyway, unless I missed it.

Don't forget the intimidation and fire setting of the dogs of those sleds affected. Also some penalties for shaken status :). Now I find it hard to see what options I have. Could you discribe those foes remaining as what is affecting them and where they are?

Since Merisiel is first in initiative.... her actions go off before the 'TNS'

Merisiel turns from the driver's seat and launches another dagger into the body of the enemy driver. The pain causes him to reel on the reigns, jerking them sideways.

Markavious finds the opportunity to launch a devestating spell directly into the sled. The flesh of the driver and the cleric passenger dissolve, while the burning dogs stumble into the snow. The sled speeds on over the team of dogs corpses, and then jerks. The rear end of the sled flies up, and it slams into the ground sideways.

Jory, ready to hamper the enemy caster, does not get the opportunity to engage as his preparedness is made moot by a horrible visage of evocation.

Volkard, is also simililarly denied his spell, as it's intended targets dissipate into vapors.

Sharna slows her sled down, keeping the sled in check.

Tyrion's blistering invective causes the dogs on the last remaining sled to go limp. The sled's rails run over a rock, causing it to slide. The burning driver lands on top of the rock and lays still. The sole-survivor, one of the rangers, lands in the snow. Steam rises from the furrow created by his slide, the snow snuffing out the flames. He gets up and surveys the scene, then runs as fast as he can to the treeline.

Merisiel loses control of her dog sled! Merisiel: You hae 3 rounds to regain control of the dog sled.

While we are technically out of combat, we will stay in initiative to see if Merisiel's sled is corrected, and to give you a chance to deal with the sole-survivor of your party's vicious effectiveness. You are still moving down the hill though, so unless someone wants to risk the DC of a 'full stop' or jump from the sled, you may only have a round to do so.

Not sure what my options would be in character to try and help stop Merisiel's sled. ... aside from casting Glitterdust on the dogs, which would be hilarious, but might not have the desired results. Anyway, assuming Sharna can get her sled over there and try to help calm the dogs...?

Sharna hears Merisiel's cry of distress, and looks that way, while Ra screeches nasty things about the intellect of dogs. "Hup! After them!"

She tries to spur her dogs faster, so that she can near the other dogs enough to shout hopefully calming orders.

Merisiel, unable to handle the reins of her sled, is bounced out as the dogs run over a patch of ice hidden by a thin layer of snow. She hits the ground hard, sliding as shards of glass-like ice protusions scrape through the gaps in her armor. Merisiel takes 8 points of damage

She is forced to watch as the sled she was once on, still carrying Volkard, heads towards further down the mountain, towards The Eye.

Sharna tries to mush her dogs forward and get closer but the dogs ,sensing the impending doom of the sled's future, do not find her efforts forceful enough to put themselves in jeopardy.

Jory snaps an order at the dogs, who slow down slightly in compliance. Drawing careful aim, he takes down the the lead dog with a blunt arrow. Maneuver is some sort of action, so you only get the first attack..

Volkard manages to hang onto the sled, now out of control. As he prepares to try and cast a spell, an arrow flies in from behind him and bounces off the head of the lead dog. The dog crumples, and is trampled by the second and third dogs in the team until they too are suddenly jerked backwards by the lead dog's drag. They try to move off to the side, but are unable to avoid the sled as it drives over the rear of the team and pushes the entire pack forward. The sled, and it's dog team are pushed by it's momentum, until it suddenly stops at a tree. Volkard flies from the sled, and splats with his back against a tree-trunk and then slides to the ground, a soft thump being covered by crunching of snow and ice. Volkard takes 8 points of damage

Tyrion lets loose with a mighty arrow, which pummels the running ranger in the back and drives him to the snow, motionless.

Combat Over

As it stands now, your down one dog sled team and a sled. Volkard and Merisiel are on foot, while the rest of the party remain on their sleds. Since we're out of combat, you guys can eventually slow down and regroup (or leave the two non-sled people to walk down the mountain....)

Pulling herself out of the snow, Merisiel quickly dashes to her feet, running after the sled.

After the crash and ensuing carnage, Merisiel hopes Volk is ok.

Then she immediately realizes that her sled had the bones! Perception to find the bones: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23

"That was... more thrilling than I usually wish such encounters to go," Sharna observes. "Is anyone much hurt? Ah, it appears Markavious has things in hand...?"

Sharna picks her way through the snow to the body of the man Tyrion shot. She's not even going to try touching the acid-fried bodies of the others. She looks the corpse over with the resigned businesslike air that has become necessary in years working with her fellow Pathfinders, and if she has any thoughts about shooting fleeing people in the back, she keeps them to herself. Such thoughts don't prevent her from seeing if the man had anything of use on him, anyway.

"Better luck next time. Or pick your friends with better care," she mutters to the dead man. The grisly task accomplished, she returns to the others with Ra settling on her shoulder. "I think we can walk down at a leisurely pace, taking turns riding on the sleds perhaps," she says. "As long as those beastmen don't catch up with us, but I think they won't dare to leave their mountain heights and come this low."

Picking himself up and dusting the snow off, Volkard grins; A nice leisurely stroll sound nice right now. While the sled ride was fun, I would rather trust to my own two feet at the moment.

Tyrion is able to gather the sled and sort the dog team out from their tangled mess. After a few minutes, they recover albeit obviously worse for wear.

Jory, you find the blanket you're looking for stuck in the crook of some branches about nine feet above the ground in the tree that the sled impacted upon.

Sharna, the burned body of the last assailant lies still in the snow. As you approach you smell the char of skin and hair, and notice a bronze badge stuck against a very nice chain shirt. His gear lies strewn about the snow, having failed to stay in his pack as he was tossed out. Around him you find a nice shortsword and a very nice bola.

"Hmm. Enchanted goods. I am sure the Society's coffers will appreciate the contributions." She packs up the items into her handy haversack. Ra does a brief overfly of the acidized corpses, looking for tasty eyeballs to eat shiny things, which he points out to his mistress if he finds them.

(Looting happens, in other words. ;) You don't have to bother listing it all right now, just making sure we're not oversight-ing stuff on the chronicle sheet.)

"These were the Aspis agents," Sharna says to the others, in case they were still in doubt. "Markavious, save your wand if you wish-- I had anticipated needing to heal others today."

With all that taken care of and the bones found once more... "Shall we? It is, as they say, downhill from here. And I am eager to return to warmer climes."

Our abilities were well matched to the scenario. In a dungeon crawl filled with tight quarters we may not have fared so well.

The party manages to gather it's gear and the bundle of blanket and bones. After recuperating, you make your way back down the Dragon, passing through the rest of it relatively unscathed.

As you reach the lower part of the mountain, you all note the presence of smoke rising. It looks as though a fire has started not too long ago at Cania's Drop, the waystation you started your journey from earlier.

Jory, Merisiel and Volkard:
Your fine sense of hearing detects sounds being carried by the wind. They are quiet in the distance, but it sounds vaguely like what you heard while you were being attacked by the beastmen at the top of The Dragon.

Sharna frowns at the sight of smoke smudging the clean mountain air. All she wanted was to rest, put her feet up before the fire, have some soup...

"What is this?" she asks unhappily, drawing a wand from her pack and touching Ra with it. "Ra-- survey and return, eyes-of-my-spirit."

Casting a wand charge of mage armor on Ra and sending him to circle and return, as we walk towards the area. Sharna will throw another charge on herself, as well.
