"...Now where did Arayas wander off to?" Dante asks. "And where did you come from? I assume this place didn't change Arayas's form?"

That actually brings up a good question, how do we want to deal with Arayas leaving, ignore it and move on? Incorporate her mysterious and sudden disappearance into the ongoing mystery, have her die a heroic death? Thoughts, ideas?

I tend to be against ex-PCs dying, even though it's usually the easiest option. I was going to suggest that she could escort Lady Smallwood out, but Dante went and ruined that idea... so probably either have her called away or incorporate it into the mystery. Or both.

As the party adapts to the sudden disaperance of Arayas and the sudden appearance of Elantier Silverleaf they are suddenly interrupted at the far doors burst open.

Behind them is a dangerous looking woman, wielding a staff that glows green with ichor.

Beside her are a pair of twisted looking bandits, their flesh warped to resemble hyenas.

She smiles and whispers, although you can all hear it in your minds get them!

The balconies are suddenly awash with activity as 4 rangers with fiendish bows growing out of their arms rise up and begin firing.

Seeming to make up her mind, she grabs her bow and darts toward the far doors, raising the weapon to fire at the woman giving the orders. 'Bring down their leader, Dernaras, and they may be inclined to give up.' Single move toward the first-floor peeps.

He leaps onto the back of a seat, which crumbles underneath him. Wasting no time, he picks himself up...

He kicks off a statue of some sort of actor, grabs at the bottom of one of the box seats, then pulls himself up and over the railing and next to the archer.

She speaks is a raspy voice "I was told there were some pesky troublemakers, I'm glad I found you first, Lilia has all the fun these days."

She cackles a bit.

The ranger suddenly engaged by Dante panics for a moment while the demonic bow tries to take a bite out of Dante.

Dante takes 15 damage.
The demonic bow is covered in tiny mouths that nibble on the ranger's flesh.

Two of the rangers fire down at Elantier

One of the arrows hits dealing 15 damage and dazing Elantier. Daze is -4 to hit and will persist until you spend a quick action to pull the arrow out. Pulling the arrow out will cause you to take 10 ongoing damage (save ends 11+)

Both of those rangers get nibbled on by their bows.

Dernaras starts working on one of the bodyguards while Dante nearly takes down the first of the archers.

Meanwhile Elantier Adding +3 from the bow and +1 from the escalation die is enough to hit both targets finishes off the Bandit on Dante and hits the sorcress with an arrow.

Seeing that her bodyguards have Dernaras pinned down, the sorcress fires another lightning bolt, this time at Elantier.
Lightning bolt: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Singing Elantier for 30 lightning damage.

Meanwhile the 2 gnollish bodyguards surround Dernaras and circle Dernaras looking for weak points, simultaneously they strike, chopping at her with their battle axes.
Axe: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Axe: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25

Both of them hit, for 25 damage each!

Seeing their companion go down, the demonic rangers all open fire on Dante.

Elantier manages to deftly avoid it while Henrick gets caught in the sticky strands and is hampered, save ends.
Hampered: You can only make basic attacks, no frills. You can still move normally. (Fighters and bards, that also means no flexible attacks. Monsters, that means no triggering special abilities for specific attack rolls.)

The Web has no ongoing effect, I just wanted it on the maps for visuals.

Seeing Dernaras pinned down and Henrick stuck in the web, the sorcress charges forward into melee with Elantier.

Staff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10

Her ichorous staff however catches in the web and allows Elantier to pop free. Not currently engaged in melee.

Meanwhile the gnollish bodyguards continue their pack assault on Dernaras.

Ouch.
25 damage each for a total of 50!

The staggered Ranger withdraws from combat, to live and fight another day while the other two circle around the outside of the hall after Dante.

Joy. FYI, that's a REALLY powerful effect.

Too tangled to effectively cast his spells, Henrick draws his crossbow and loads it. "Not that I can do much good with this old thing," he mumbles to himself.

The web in no way prevents your movement, you could quick action draw crossbow, even if its a heavy spend a move to reload and then then fire it, or you could just move and bash somebody with your hammer. What do you want to do?

Not that's its much consolation but the power of hampered varies widely between targets. If Elantier had ended up hampered little would have changed since the ranger just makes basic attacks for the most part. When it was on Dernaras before it was annoying but not the end of the world. It's absolutely devestating on you though.

I'm going to use Surprising to lower that to a 16; it's still a crit.

That also triggers my brooch, giving me 10 temporary hit points.

With a quiet nod of satisfaction, the elf-woman conquers the inner pain and fights on! Quick action recovery.

Dante leaps from one balcony to the next, avoiding the lane where the two archers have pointed their bows. He ducks behind another statue, plays at an attack...

Dernaras finally finds the opening she's been looking for and takes down one of the bodyguards while staggering the other.

Dante tries to deal with the rangers as best he can but is bleeding profusely.

Elantier just misses the sorceress but even the near hit causes her great pain.

The sorcress cackles.
"Struggling with my Web Dwarf?"
before firing off a lightning bolt at Henrick
VsPD: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12

The lightning bolt does no damage to Henrick but does fry his webs off.
Henrick is no longer hampered.

She snarls in disgust and closes to melee with Elantier again her staff dripping with ichor.

The remaining bodyguard stays after Dernaras.
Axe: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Hitting her for another 25 damage.

The 2 remaining rangers follow Dante around the pillar, their bows biting out at Dante in melee.
Bite: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Bite: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Both hit, for 15 damage each.
The Rangers do take damage as their bows nibble on them a bit too at least.
