"I... I am sorry for hurting you," Fortuna tells the rest, eyes downcast, "I was confused, somehow. I thought you were trying to kill me."
Sash, I guess?
Pirate GM |
There were definitely some more posts in this thread regarding people choosing loot, Paizo seems to have eaten them though. Feel free to roll off if multiple people want the same thing, or however else you feel like splitting things. and as a reminder you're limited to your level in magic items although I'll probably continue to give lots from here on out and you'll eventually be able to drop some of the adventurer tier items.
Pirate GM |
I think Khel wanted the hammer.
So...
Helm for Hrarsk
Armor for Doug
Sash for Fortuna
Cloak for Bethany
Hammer for Khel.
That leaves the Dwarven Steel hand. Does let you flip off an opponent and tell them their attack sucks...
Doug Sherwood |
Doug puts on his new armor and takes a second look at the steel hand. "It looks nice, but I think I'll keep my perfectly working human hand." He looks at the others in the party. "Anyone else wanting to replace their hand for this magic one? If not I'll just hang onto it for now."
Once everyone is ready to leave.
"WE'VE GOT THE LOOT NOW LETS TACKLE THAT ARMY!" Doug says with his optimistic outside voice.
Khellirin |
Khel gives his new hammer an experimental swing, then holds both hammers low and begins a series of spinning attacks, a fierce grin appearing on his face. "Oh, I think this will do nicely." His grin fades a bit as Doug eagerly talks about attacking an army, but he nods grimly, knowing that's what they must do.
Not super excited about losing my hand, but I guess it'd be cool, and it's a useful item - free healing once the escalation die gets up there.
Pirate GM |
Sounds like nobody really wants to hand, which is understandable. I've got a cool idea for it, we'll move forward later today.
Fortuna Peccata |
"Wait... army? I thought we were just picking up stuff to help, y'know, our army defeat their army. Right?"
Fortuna does not look hopeful in the face of Doug and Hrarsk's enthusiasm.
Pirate GM |
After exiting Nargrym Steelhand’s tomb, you continue on your journey to the hidden valley where the giants are gathering to join the Storm Tyrant’s army.
According to your map, the valley is about 40 miles southeast from the tomb. About halfway there you come across an isolated cabin, that has somewhat recently been bombarded with giant boulders.
The lone troll that seems to have moved in is no trouble for champions such as yourselves.
Farther along the trail beyond the cottage, smoke rises from the remains of two more stone cottages, spaced a few hundred yards apart.
Both cottages show signs of extensive damage; their interiors have been ransacked and large boulders litter the ground around the buildings.
Khel also notices footprints and other evidence that suggests that giants initiated these raids.
After passing these ruins you eventually reach the edge of the mountain forest, where the stream that you've been following—now a river—drops down into a large, winding valley. A wide, well-trodden trail, which is clearly the path the giants used to raid descends into the valley alongside the river.
The valley lies beneath the slopes of several tall mountains, carved by a snaking river fed by numerous mountain streams that spill from the Mindspins’ icy spires. These mountains are thousands of feet high, with steep slopes, cliffs, and rock walls.
It is immediately apparent that moving across the valley floor will be significantly easier than traversing the mountain slopes above the valley.
After slaughtering many isolated giants in the valley and strategically avoiding larger encampments you finally arrive at the CATHEDRAL OF MINDERHAL, having learned that the Stonegiant you seek not only commands many giants, but a horde of orcs and as rumor has it a "small" Red Dragon.
...
A great stone cathedral sits atop a wide plateau carved into the side of the mountain overlooking the valley. From the grounds below, a flight of huge stairs staggers up the mountain slope. The two-foot rise of each step is carved directly into the mountain face, and tall poles decorated with beast skulls, bones, severed limbs, and similarly macabre decorations are driven into the stone at each corner where the stairs change direction.
At the top of the plateau, an immense palisade of trees and slab concrete surrounds the temple. Beyond the battlements rise the cathedral’s cold gray walls, carved from the ancient stone of the mountain itself. Above the monumental structure, three colossal towers climb hundreds of feet into the air. The central spire is tallest, flanked by two smaller towers offset to either side.
The spire’s apex is crowned with a carved stone symbol of a huge anvil. Although heavily weathered, the cathedral appears to have mostly withstood the passage of time, though some walls bear the evidence of crude repair work where holes have been filled with ugly patches of concrete or sloppily braced with boulders and tree trunks.
Inside, is the Stone giant Urathash, how you're going to get in though is up to you.
Don't need any rolls yet, I'll decide what sort of mechanics to use this time after I have a general sense of the plan.
Fortuna Peccata |
"Gulp," Fortuna contributes. "Anybody into mountain climbing so we can go up the side or go around behind and drop in? This looks impossible. We do have two half-orcs, though. Maybe we can disguise ourselves as orcs and make our way up? You two might give us some credibility."
Maybe we can Lord of the Rings this b*@!+.
Bethany Filnamorth |
"Maybe," replies the barkeep with a rather orcky grunt. "Maybe we're from the Twisted Hearts, here with an ale delivery," she suggests. "We could prolly cobble together a cask or two from those trees over there, use 'em for uh... relief tonight, and pass it off as orcish spirits tomorrow."
Khellirin |
After many successful skirmishes on the journey to Minderhal, Khel has actually accumulated an unusual degree of confidence about their mission, almost to the point that he could nearly be described as being within a long day's march of shouting distance of feeling cocky. Sadly, this uncharacteristically deep well of courage in the face of unknown dangers is quickly drained as his eyes scale the heights of the plateau, and the well truly runs dry as he studies the cathedral at the summit.
"Gulp," he offers, in concert with Fortuna. "I don't think we want to climb that. If we're spotted, we're sitting ducks for the rock-throwers." He considers the plan Fortuna and Bethany are cooking up, then shrugs, having nothing better to offer, "It's not a great plan, but it's a plan. Let's just hope the first giants we run into don't want to taste the stuff. How can I help?"
Fortuna Peccata |
"Maybe you should go back and skin the troll. Two of us could get in that skin and wear it like a costume," Fortuna offers a bit waspishly, "Or the rest of us could be human prisoners, being taken for interrogation?"
She shrugs, feeling that anything she can offer is lame in comparison to that edifice... and what's inside.
Pirate GM |
I has internet! With about a 50% uptime :( Enough to post though.
With Fortuna's auspicious idea combined with the ale delivery plan... And an attempt to help make up lost time
I'm now picturing Fortuna, Khel and Doug all piled together into a troll suit with Hrarsk and Fortuna supervising as the party brings in the most serviceable wagon they could find filled with the least damaged barrels they could find.
...
The gods must be smiling on you today for despite your surety that this plan was doomed from the start it somehow just works.
---
The vaulted ceiling of this immense hall climbs high overhead, above great stone benches that stand taller than a human. To the west, the room widens, opening into some sort of amphitheater.
On the walls, long strands of runes divide panels set with basreliefs depicting a stone giant with a tremendous hammer in
various stages of assembling the world and forging its creatures
from fire and metal.
Spread around the room are various orcs, with a Stonegiant sitting on the far throne, who must be Urathash.
Wrapped around the fountain is a red dragon, although it's just a little bigger than any of you it lifts its head as you enter "That's no troll." it says casually as it lets loose a gout of flame that disintegrates the disguise. Trolls always were weak to fire.
Nearby are about half a dozen orcish berserkers, you don't think they'd stand up to much abuse. purple/mook
Beyond them are a pair of very large orcish Champions. Blue/Green, if you try and move past them and they are unengaged they will intercept.
Wrapped around the fountain is the red dragon.
And up on the throne is the Stone Giant along with an old and wizenrd, yet tough looking orc. Judging by his number of scars, he must be a chieftain.Yellow

Bethany glances over at Doug, grimacing at the squished-ness, and winds up her arm. A prayer for extra strength on his lips, Hrarsk charges straight into the pack of orcs. Strength of the Gods: +4d6 damage with melee weapons to me, Doug, and Khellirin. He strikes one of them fatally and wounds another.
Neither the spell nor the gauntlets specify that they apply only on a hit. So I'm guessing that I get to apply the damage even on a miss. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Khellirin |
Wow, that's a cool spell. Though, reading the spell description, I think if you're casting for broad effect it only adds 2d6 to each of us. Is that right?
Pirate GM |
Ya, looks like 2d6 for broad. As a note I was like do all these things really add to miss damage and I went and looked at the playtest notes. The 2 authors disagree on if they should or not, so we're going to keep adding all the on attack things to misses seems more fun that way.
