I totally overlooked you where a halfling! I guess your cute picture got mislead me to think you were human! Damm, so many things to double-check! xD
I don't want to rewrite the whole post, it took me far more than an hour already, so for this time we will assume Calistra made a large size of a halfling, but don't apply the usual +4 to attack a prone enemy.
Ragnar Pathclearer |
Ragnars swings as the ape goes down
AoO Greatclub: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 111d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Ragnars standard attack is aimed at the statue
Greatclub: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 81d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

You are using a weapon, so you threaten. Because you have Improved Unarmed Strike, you threaten either way. He provokes once for standing up, and again when he tries to trip. However, you only get to use one of those (i.e. you get one AOO, not two) unless you have something like combat reflex. I'd recommend taking it with his trip attempt and try to block it from happening :).
Etiana takes a step closer to the action in response to the ape's retreating movement, and tries to help Yakanzi with her whip performance.
FA 5' step. SA Aid Another Yakanzi +4 AC vs the ape.
Aid Another: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Yakanzi |
Yakanzi summons his strength and attacks the foe with two swift strikes...
AoO1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24...DMG1: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11...Poss Crit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20...CritDMG: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
AoO2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22...DMG2: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Thanks for the help, most of my PFS has been with a ranged ranger so this close up melee stuff is new to me, especially the maneuvers stuff

Shagruk's fire burns the giant ape causing him serious injuries. The beast screams at the pain caused by the flames!
As the ape stands up, Yakanzi hits him with his morningstar in the middle of the head, crushing the skull with a terrible blow.
The room becomes silent as the ape without half head falls again to the floor, this time totally still.
Well, that was a deadly blow xD
I think if Yakanzi tribe could see it now you probably would be treated like a king for a looooong time.
Xoricon arrow hits the idol and some part of the wood conforming it comes out.
Seeing in pain how his champion is on the floor, the idol looks at the terrible Mwangi fighter and calls it with a Primeval Curse.
Will DC 12: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
The warrior's skin suddenly becomes darker, like wood.
Ykanzi is now cursed: –2 penalty to attack rolls, saves, ability checks, and skill checks
The idol moves backwards looking for cover.
This effect can be removed by remove curse or by eating a goodberry.
Da'Tunga: dead
Tik Taan (idol): 3 damage
Party effects: Bless (+1 hit/damage/enchantment and fear saves) 1 min

Round 4:
Shagruk, Xoricon, Etiana, Yakanzi, Ragnar, Tik Taan
Party is up!
Etiana |
Seeing the little critter run away, Etiana moves forward E-E-E-SE, peers around the corner, and whips the runaway idol, hoping to trip it up and slow it down in the process.
MA move 20' to corner. SA whip to trip. This time there should be no size issue, no?
trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Etiana |
It's a first level druid spell. Shagruk can take care of it after we're done here :).
In case you needed a spell in the future and you don't have the right spellcaster in the party, you can buy it from an NPC for (caster level x spell level x 10). So, in this case, without Shagruk, it would cost 10gp to get a casting here in town.
GM Rutseg |
Ragnar's takes good profit of the prone idol and smashes it with the ivory greatclub and a sudden strength that breaks the idol in two parts.
COMBAT IS OVER!
Smashed to splinters the idol ceases to move and suddenly the mists start to quickly fade disappearing within the floor tiles and the windows. The primates look at each other and start to run in big confusion out of the museum returning to the city.
All what remains are the splinters of the idol, and Nigel still bound at the ziggurat altar.
He looks confused at you and says "W-what happened? What was that? W-who are y-you? Why I'm here bound?"
Etiana |
Etiana looks up, and frowns at the height. "One moment, Nigel Ser. We'll try to get you down. We were hoping you can tell us. But, let us get you down from that uncomfortable looking place first." Etiana looks to the party. "I think there's a storage room. May be there's a ladder there?"
Assuming there's no issues, Etiana assures Nigel they'll be right back, and convinces the party to go with her to rummage the storage room to see if there's a ladder to reach the 20' height, assuming he's on top of that. Otherwise, if we can reach him without incident, we untie him and help him down.
Etiana |
"Stop! Oh Shagruk, don't hurt the monkeys! Can't you see they're all running away now? They're no harm to us anymore." The halfling cleric looks with pity at the flamed monkeys, secretly wishing they manage to duck in time to avoid the worst of Shagruk's wrath.
Aww, you took away your wrathful ways. It was funny.
Our resident druid was raging with fire. Really. Etiana is so not deleting this post.
The last time I prepared the goodberries spell was...never, I think.
GM Rutseg |
Shagruk and Etiana go to the storage and retrieve a ladder. Nothing else of relevance for the mission is there found.
Nigel is incredibly grateful for his rescue "Thanks god you came to save us! When I bought that idol to Lugizar Trantos I did not expect it was cursed like that! Those mists took my head." the elf gentleman descends from the ziggurat with your help "What happened with the other officers? Are they ok? Did the primals cause any harm to them or the expositions? Oh! For Desna's sake, why this happened!?"
Etiana |
The halfling soothes Nigel as only a servant of Calistria can. "Why don't you sit down for a moment. I know it must have been hard to see all this. We were able to save some of the people. We know you did not mean to cause harm. The mist affected us as well. It was so sad to see my friends fight each other as they did." Etiana flashes Nigel a charming smile, reflecting the sincerity behind her words.
As Nigel calms down, Etiana relays what they uncovered as they searched the museum. "I think something dreadful happened with my friends with those masks. Do you know what might help rid them of their condition?"
GM Rutseg |
"I see. So it was affecting all us..." further listening Etiana "Well, I guess a remove disease spell might work on that. You certainly don't want him to become a vargouile. I don't know how those masks were misclassified. Probably the Tik Taan idol convinced them to attack you through the mists power..."
Smiling at you he follows up "But I am grateful for your help, and you deserve all good from me. Come with me to the office." As Nigel leads you to the office he continue talking "There is something I want to give you from my personal collection."
He finally draws a spear "This weapon is an incredibly ancient Mwangi spear that Chelish explorers found near the colony of Sargava during the reign of the expansionist Chelish prince, Haliad I. It would be worth a great deal to the Pathfinder Society and they’d hungrily pay to include it in their collection." Once you took a closer look, you see it is a bejeweled masterwork spear with brittle, white bird feathers tied with crumbling leather straps beneath the still-sharp spearhead worth 750 gp.
"I have an additional gift." he turns and comes back with a small stone in a box "I believe it is of special significance to Pathfinders, an ioun stone. I guess you are familiar with the interaction between wayfinders and ioun stones. Many ioun stones can be placed within a wayfinder to create fantastic magical effects. But I shall remark this inferior stone is sadly not capable of such resonance. This one is a cracked mulberry pentacle ioun stone. Take it." and he gives you the stone.
Etiana |
As the man hands over the precious gifts, Etiana stretches on her tip-toes and plants a kiss on the ragged elf's cheek. "You are too kind! I hope to be able to hear more of what you've learned. You must have seen so much of the world! Perhaps you can come visit me sometime..." With a shy sly? grin for dear Nigel as she listens raptly at his tales, the halfling cleric wonders if she can have him calling on the name of Calistria yet.
Xoricon Quickblade |
The Taldan nods at Nigel respectfully. "We are glad you are well, Curator. Perhaps a more rigorous vetting of items sold by haunted-looking Pathfinders is in order in the future?" he waggles an eyebrow. "Well, all is mostly well save for that one fellow. We are grateful for your gifts."
Sorry, the day got away from me!
GM Rutseg |
Looking ashamed at Xoricon statement Nigel just says "We surely will improve our protocols. Who should thought something like this could happen... It seems I lost two of my employees. I hope I can convince all the others to get back to work. Anyhow, many thanks to you all for your help. Hope Calistria pays you with a long beautiful life."
After making sure the museum is safe, you come back to the lodge and talk with Adril Hestram explaining everything that happened "Oh! Wow! So you mean the idols were in control of the museum. So terrible... You have demonstrated to be much useful to the Society. Watch out for new missions as we will need you soon enough. Thanks for your efforts and maintaining the good name of the Society."
The Absalom clerics accept to treat Shagruk's disease before it becomes a problem 150 po, and the druid eventually sleeps and prepares the necessary spells to fix Ragnar's bow and Yakanzi's skin curse.
